Not as it seems
On arrival the reception looked stunning. The reception girls were very polite and friendly. Got given our room 211 to go up and we were very underwhelmed the room just looked very dated and looked like I could do with a good scrub. The floor we were on were finger tips length away from two other rooms one being the nosiest room I’ve ever come across and that’s with going to magaluf and Benidorm one man did apologise but the girl said she wasn’t sorry and there would be more noise. Back in the room I noticed my feet were wet to find that the floor was leaking!!! Went to reception they sent the lovely maintenance man up who claimed it was because the floor was in desperate need of repair and that’s coming from a staff member and because of that when the cleaners mop the floor was acting like a sponge. We got moved rooms which the room was definitely an upgrade still with the jacuzzi bath which is what we paid for only to make it the plug doesn’t stay in so the water was constantly draining and the jacuzzi but doesn’t even flipping work absoloute shiitee show if you closed your eyes and listened to the noise around in the hotel you would think you are in Benidorm with how chavy and dated it actually is
Couldn't sleep at all because of the fridge.
The location of this hotel is excellent, the staff are lovely. We didn't eat here so can't comment.
The shower was amazing but I hardly slept at all due to the fact the room has a really noisy fridge within the room and because of this I will definitely NOT be staying again.
So different to last time
So different to last time. And the visit was for my wifes birthday and our anniversary. Can't believe the small amount for the £50 we paid for afternoon tea. Others read this lovely hotel and staff but avoid afternoon tea never had a bad one any where else. Ripe of will not have it again. May try the early bird next time.
Date night away from the kids.
We stayed for 1 night, being liverpool locals, we were looking forward to a nice stay in a nice hotel. How wrong we were. We stayed in 309. The laminate was coming up from the floor, the lamp shades were thick with dust and very bobbly, the jacuzzi bath was freezing, wallpaper peeling off the walls.... I would like to say I had a good night's sleep, but I didn't. 2 single beds pushed together with a well worn springy mattress topper on top. Even the TV was disconnected from the aerial, like they haven't or won't pay their TV license..... avoid.
Wouldn't recommend, 0 star!
Wouldn't recommend!
Was looking forward to our stay, the pictures look amazing and what reviews i had seen were good.
However on arrival the toilets were filthy, when checking in the staff were just stood chatting then once checked in the lady didn't inform us on which elevators to take so had to walk the long way round.
The room look okay at first glance, but with a closer look the laminate flooring was all splitting and coming up. The lampshades were thick with dust and the curtains hanging off which caused light to come in early morning.
We was attracted by the spa bath for a romantic break, after running the jets the grime that came out was disgusting.
One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at.
Ruined our anniversary, Learnt looks can be deceiving with this hotel.
We booked a 2 night stay for our anniversary, we were greeted by welcoming staff and the reception looked lovely, however, we learnt very quickly that looks can be very deceiving with this hotel. We used the jacuzzi bath which when full was covered in grime and dirt, within an hour of being in the room the ceiling started leaking heavily and flooded the bathroom, which we were then later told that it had collapsed not long after they moved us. Going into our second room, all seemed well until the following day when the electricity and heating was cut off from 8am, the staff said that this would be sorted, yet when we got back from being out in the freezing cold all day, we still returned to a cold room with no electricity or heating for at least another 4 hours (we got back around 3/4), we were unable to use the drink making facilities or charge our nearly dead phones, the receptionist offered us another room change if the issue wasn’t fixed. To make it worse each time we left our room our key card stopped working, resulting in me and my partner repeatedly going up and down the stairs (from the third floor) to reception to sort this issue. After sorting out the problem with the electricity and heating we decided to watch the TV, but this did not work and would keep turning off. Same issue with the jacuzzi bath as the other room, but all lasted about 30 mins as the plug must’ve been broken/damaged as the water was slowly draining. Me and my partner could’ve had a better nights sleep on the side of a mountain as the first night I was woken up to banging on a door, this scared me and I woke my partner before someone started shouting and banging more on one of the doors next to our room for at least 20 minutes. Our second night was exactly the same, more people were banging on the doors, even messing with our door handle, luckily this wasn’t as long and stopped after around 5-10 mins. As we were checking out the receptionist asked how our stay was and we were honest to say that it was awful, she called the manager to come and speak to us, we then waited in the reception over 20 minutes for the manager who never came, so we ended up leaving. Unfortunately, this ruined our anniversary and overall trip to liverpool, as it was our first time staying in the city.
We had a two night stay for birthday…
We had a two night stay for birthday celebrations , we certainly were not disappointed! The food was great , the staff were so friendly and attentive , large clean comfy rooms , which had maid service daily ! Couldn't have had a party experience like it anywhere else ! All seven of us loved it . Also great Central base .
Girls screaming all night which was…
Girls screaming all night which was incredibly disturbing rung reception they said they would speak to them but never did. Tap was broken in bathroom and TV light kept flickering.
First of all this hotel should be…
First of all this hotel should be downgraded to a two star. It is VERY tired looking hotel. You are better off with a premier inn or travel lodge,. Experience - 0
Breakfast - 0
Beds - 5
tv -5 (as you are watching it freezes and switches off)
No room services
Overall worst experience of my life, wasted £280 for a night and this does not include breakfast. Happy to share picture. Very disappointed. Spoke to reception staff re my of my disappointment of the room, all I got was" that's what you are allocated". No apologises. breakfast £15 per head but chef can't Carter to peoples request! Seriously you should employ a new chef! I can go on. My birthday weekend was ruined. Mentioned that to the staff - NIL care. So if you just want to get pi@@@ed and need bed then this is the place, but if you want an experience please don't stay HERE
Very disappointed by the Bastion…
Very disappointed by the Bastion Restaurant at the Shankly Hotel. Firstly, I found the online booking facility really difficult to use - it was stuck right in the bottom of the screen and wouldn't let me scroll down to the time we wanted - so I rang. We booked a table for 2 at 6pm and I was told it was all booked in.
We arrived on the dot of 6pm - when I checked the time on my phone I realised I'd missed a call from them at 5.45pm, when we were already on our way. At the reception desk, three members of staff just about managed to stop their conversation so I could give my name. 'Oh, we've got a tour group coming in - we really needed you here half an hour ago. I'll check with the chef...' comes back 'If you follow me, we can do you one course and we'll need the order in 5 minutes.' At that point, we left.
The time to tell me they needed us at our table before 5.30pm was last night when I made the booking. I don't believe a 'tour group' books in last minute - surely they knew about it last night? At worst, they could have rung some time this afternoon. They had no idea how far we'd travelled, what other plans we might have had, or if it was a special occasion. We didn't even get an apology.
Needless to say, we won't be going back.
Certainly wouldn't go back to this…
Certainly wouldn't go back to this hotel absolutely disgusting room stunk of damp paint falling of ceiling constantly kitchen cupboard hanging off couldn't see out of windows filfy dirty . Breakfast awful cheep and nasty food .
Dreadful experience...
Not usually one to leave a review specifically not a bad one but after the amount of money we have spent I thought it was important to be honest about this hotel and prepare people. I feel like we've had our eyes taken out.
The rooms are really dated and dreadful. We stayed in The flamingo suite - this suite has so so many issues. Thank goodness only 7 of us came, there is nowhere near enough room for 14 people, we really struggled with just 7. The suite itself is also really disgusting, it was filthy and the smell made us all feel really sick. The pool was broken and slimy it smelt really bad and the drains in the bathroom weren't draining properly and smelt sewage like we had to shut the door because the smell made us all feel really unwell. The wallpaper was peeling off in areas, tiles were damaged, doors were damaged, the entire room needed some real tender love and care. To the exterior we had a huge scaffold and some really filthy windows too.
- Brunch - the dancers and DJ were fantastic, exceptional in fact but the sandwiches were really bad most of them had no filling it wasn't clear which were ok for our friends with allergies which wasn't great. There wasn't enough glasses on the table so a few of us sat with no drink for a while. When we asked for a mocktail they bought one tiny glass jug full of ice which meant we had to keep getting up and asking for it to be refilled.
- Cocktail making - The class lasted around 30 minutes and I appreciate 2 of us weren't drinking but we've done several cocktail making classes and they're never less then 2 hours even with smaller numbers. Usually we race, play games, there's often a shot per person included and some kind of competition but we were put into a back room out of the way made two drinks and sent on our way. Members of staff were coming in and out to take the ladders or get things they needed. Again just not a great experience.
- Deposit - I paid £50pp on arrival which was meant to be put back onto my card when we checked out. This still hasn't cleared and given the state of the accomodation it's concerning they're still holding this.
- Safety - key cards are needed to be reset sporadically and although our suite was out on its own we had a man come down our corridor near the room and other ladies staying there had similar issues with men trying key cards to their rooms.
I hate to complain but we have paid over £3000 for this experience for 7 people and we're just really disappointed, the birthday girl was just gutted with the state of the room and the smells we all went to bed early so we could check out and get home!
There are so many amazing places in Liverpool so please do find somewhere different if you're looking for a good time. This hotels location is good but everything else is bad :(
Disgusting
Rooms aren’t anything they look like on line ,they need a good clean the bed throws are filfy showers don’t work properly bath water doesn’t drain bathroom door lock didn’t work just a waste of money a shambles maybe educate the staff about gluten free food very appalling .
Poor quality
Poor quality - appears nice in online photos but the reality is far from luxury. Reported an issue with the air conditioning in our room to reception as soon as we checked in. Returned hours later to see nothing has been done to fix the issue so we had to have windows open to cool the room. Hotel is on a busy road so very noisy, no sleep and ruined plans for our second day. Refund requested through booking agent lastminute.com still unresolved.
Awful place -avoid!
We booked for a tribute night last Saturday Dolly & Kenny and paid £15 each to be seated. What a farce from start to finish firstly we asked when we arrived no numbers on tables guy showed us to the front of the function room and pulled some chairs from a store cupboard and placed them at the side of the dance floor like a school disco!! No table so drinks got knocked over by other guests after waiting 30 minutes to get served!! A nightmare! bar had just 2 people serving queue was like being in conga and bar closed at 9.45pm despite tickets saying 10pm. Place is like a hostel not a hotel standards low, place needs a good deep clean hate to think of anyone having a wedding there! Will seek a refund see how far I get with that!
Stayed here for a hen party as a group…
Stayed here for a hen party as a group of 16. It didn't disappoint! It's been an amazing weekend, every one of us enjoyed it. The hotel is stunning, the staff were lovely. Only down side was the lack of toilet rolls in rooms and no WiFi, apparently there was technical issues that they'd been having for a few days. The rooms were massive and the beds very comfortable, all very clean. All round great experience, would definitely stay again!
Don't book look elsewhere
Very poor room was horrible far for luxury did mention on checkout just said oh sorry. Have plenty of pictures to back this up.
I wasn't going to leave a review I emailed first and sent lots of messages regarding my complaint and have been ignored. Beware has really gone down hill was thinking about our wedding there absolutely no chance.
Far from sophisticated unless your sleeping in the reception area
Far from sophisticated unless your sleeping in the receptionist area.
When we arrived to hotel room our door was broken, rather than moving us we then had to wait for them to repair it, meaning we couldnt leave the room.
The room was cold even with the heating on.
The lighting is shocking, if you like getting ready in a dull room then this is for you. I found myself using a torch whilst trying to do my make up in mirror.
Number 112 was partying playing music.
Last but least, the bedding, when we woke up we looked at the bedding (unfortunately i didnt look prior as i got in the bed very late) n it had disgusting marks on the bedding what resembled bird poo.
Positive the hotel decor in reception was lovely.
After service is absolutely disgraceful
I couldn’t fault our stay, how ever the after service is absolutely disgraceful! I booked my friend the All Grey Suite for her 30th birthday, we were offered this room as the jungle rooms were unavailable, we were told how amazing the rooms were! BUT we weren’t put in the All Grey Suite, even though that’s what we had paid for, I didn’t complain while there as not wanting to ruin her birthday. So I emailed the hotel 14/2 advising of the incorrect room, no response! Emailed again 10/3, got a response from Mike Dewey 14/3 saying there is no mention of the All Grey Suite on booking, which is completely incorrect as I was offered this room and it’s on my invoice, which I then sent to him. I was polite in my response even though I’m basically being told I’m lying! Again no response to that email where I’m having to prove myself! I chase it up 22/3 to get a response of ‘Hi Abi
As I said in my original reply thank you for bringing this to my attention.
However, I do not believe there are any grounds for compensation.’ No where I had asked for compensation! But now I’m getting more and more frustrated at the total lack of the don’t care attitude I am receiving! So I respond with ‘ Hi Mike
In your original email you advised there had been no mention of the all grey suite at booking, which clearly isn't correct. so its ok then to not have something that we paid for???’
Again I get completely ignored!! So I respond again explaining that the couldn’t care less attitude is terrible, I was cc the reservations email in too as I was getting ignored most of the time. All I get back from him was ‘reservations teamed respond to me’ so another couldn’t care less email! Honestly absolutely disgraceful attitude, I paid for something I didn’t get! And yet Mike and the hotel don’t give a F! I am now taking this further. Just be careful booking this hotel, you don’t get a refund and if you check companies house you will understand why, and now I understand the don’t give a s**t attitude
