Be warned

Be warned, you'll think you're paying a tiny amount for a manual, then find £24.90 is showing on your credit card bill. They give an explanation (and the man I spoke to knew not the first thing about conversing with customers, constantly talking over me) and refer to T&Cs, but no one will get the correct picture of what's going to happen from the web page that comes up when you contact them. It's a clever way of misleading in order to net £25, and even if everyone cancels the "membership" which that pays for immediately, they're getting that first month payment on a regular basis from other dupes, and must amount to a nice little income stream. Avoid secondmanual.com. I'll be notifying Which? too in the hope that more will be warned.

I obtained a manual from said co for…


I obtained a manual from said co for £1:49. A few days later a further pay't was deducted £24-90 which I had not authorised. Phoned secondmanual.Dublin who said when I made pay't unless I cancelled within 72 hours I would be charged a monthly subscription of £24-90 per month. I was totally unaware of this clause as are many more who have reviewed this co online. IT IS A SCAM website, do not use it.

A regular scam, as many others have said

As many others have said, it is a scam. Tried to get a manual in July 2024. I paid but got no manual. Was very busy and solved the problem without the manual so didn't follow up. Have now realised they used my credit card details to charge me £24.90 every month. Barclays have been very good. (4 stars for them.) The nice lady explained that it is a well known scam. Sell you a cheap item online, and so get your details then charge you a whole lot more; in my case every month. The Barclays lady thought she could get me Aug, Sep & Oct refunded.

Beware of this sophisticated scammer

.I too have been caught out by this scam. Pretending to send a ‘free’ manual online in the form of a .pdf they then charge a minimal first payment to your debit card of £1.49 followed immediately by a first £24.90 monthly subscription payment knowing that you will not be able to block this pending payment but only to get your bank to block further monthly subscriptions for the next 13 months. Like me you will have to look out for them resuming their collection of subscriptions. I am asking them to refund my first such payment which I am sure they won’t do, I am asking them to cancel the monthly subscription they’ve fraudulently lured me into signing up to but they won’t do that either.

Complete scam - BEWARE

Absolute rip-off - Beware !! Like so many other complainants I ordered a manual on line for £1.49. Gave bank details, bank confirmed OTP, and manual downloaded.
3 days later I noticed a sum withdrawn for £24.90 which was not authorized (nor OTP passed on). I since understand that this is intended to be a monthly subscription ! - which I had not subscribed to. Hopefully I have managed to "unsubscribe" - absolute scammers !

It's a scam

It's a scam. After paying £1.49 for a manual, I was told it would be available in my space online and I would get an email with log in details. I got no email. After calling them I spoke to customer service (clearly working from home with a crying baby in the background). This person claimed to have found my account though I was a bit dubious of the speed in which she found it as most people ask me to spell at least part of my rather complicated email address. Nevertheless she said she would resend email. That has not arrived either.
In scouring their website when trying to log in, I spotted the recurring monthly payment. It was not clear if I was able to cancel my subscription because I hadn't been able to log in. At that point I contacted my bank who found the monthly payment had already been set up. The bank has now blocked future payments and if any are attempted it will go to their fraud department.

Rude and a rip off

Ordered a manual which cost me a few pounds then noticed £24.90 coming out of my account on a monthly basis. Searched servicemanual and called the number and spoke to the most rudest argumentative unprofessional person. Asked to speak to a manager and he said he was the only person there and continued to be rude and argumentative so I hung up. Received a call and t was him again being rude telling me I’d brought the manual and subscribed to their subscription service which I had unwittingly done without realising as it was not made clear when I ordered As far as I was aware I’d only brought the manual. Who wants to buy a manual (which I forgot to add was exactly the same as what arrived with the oven - 2 pages) and pay £29 per month to keep it ! They’re a rip off

I purchased a manual for under £2…

I purchased a manual for under £2 received the wrong manual so I wrote it off. Today they take £24.90 these people are thieves and cheats. As with all others you are not aware that this is a subscription service nntill the payment is taken. AVOID AS THIS SUBSCRIPTION MUST BE HIDDEN IN THE SMALL PRINT

I requested a manual which never…

I requested a manual which never appeared, I did speak to them by phone and the spent some time supposedly looking until I said lets forget it. Suffice it to say they tried to take £29 from my credit card but it was intercepted by the card company who were suspicious and they advised that I cancel the subscription that I had unknowingly signed up for. I went back to the site and surprisingly it offered the opportunity to cancel the subscription by entering an email address and submit. It immediately came back '' Cancellation accepted''. Needless to say I will be asking my credit card provider to look out for future claims!

Celtic Conmen rob pensioner

I'm 81 and recently bought a Canon printer with no users manual supplied. Having no luck finding one on Canon's website, I ordered one from Secondmanual (advertising online). No problem as far as they appeared to be concerned, and they took £1.49 from my account on the 7th October 2024 to pay for it. Within a couple of days they emailed me ..... yes, you've guessed, the wrong manual. Naively thinking this might be a simple mistake, I complained and asked for the correct manual to be sent to me asap. There was no response, which meant nothing arrived before the 9th October 2024 when we left for a pre-booked two-week holiday. Sadly there was no sign of the correct manual upon our return on 23rd October 2024 either, but surprisingly or, in hindsight, maybe not, I did find that, on the 10th October 2024 they had taken a further £24.90 from my account and followed that up with an email stating they would be taking the same sum from my account every month - alleging I'd agreed for them doing so. Now, OK, I'm knocking on a bit and, admittedly I do wear glasses for reading, but that clause or whatever it was - if it was actually included on their website - must have been inserted for the so-called company by one of the smallest leprechaun hands inhabiting their island. Though I do not expect to recover the £24.99 they've already stolen, I'm taking steps to ensure nothing more is taken from my account by these Irish celts - I think that's how you spell the word I have in mind. In my opinion they are no more than a bunch of wicked con-men and my advice to everyone is to have absolutely nothing to do with them - remember the name 'SECONDMANUAL'. I do wish I'd read Trustpilot before I approached them!

BEWARE of sites you do not know!

I was scrolling through an alphabetic list on Second Manual to see what it was offering, as I did so an item was suddenly highlighted and the page went blank. I exited the Site immediately.Later I received an email saying my manual was ready to download, I do not know what Manual it was. I deleted the email as I had not purchased anything. When I received my Bank account I found that they had deducted £1.49 on 30th September 2024, and £24.90 two days later. At no time did I go to a checkout on the site, I did not enter any personal or Bank details on the site ,yet they were able to take money from my account.I reported it to my Bank as Fraud!

Absolutely shocking do not use. Send you the wrong manual for £1.49 then take £25.90 from your account 2 days later and say it is in the small print - I did not agree to this. Complete fraud and daylight robbery . Phone calls and emails are useless

Daylight Robbery

A similar message, paid £1.49 and then three days later charged £24.90. I don’t remember agreeing to that! Spoke to my bank who blocked any further payments, but said they couldn’t reimburse the £24.90, as it was probably mentioned in the small print. When I complained by email to them, the email bounced. I phoned them and cancelled my account. This is daylight robbery, do not get involved this company.

Fraud!

Same as the messages below! I paid £1.49 for a digital manual in October 2024, which they could not supply! And then unknown to me, two days later I was charged £24.90 monthly subscription! I have contacted my bank and I must wait for 15 days and then raise a dispute. I also contacted Second Manual on the 0208 number given and they later called me back on this number +33 1 84 13 16 00 - a French number??? This company is to be avoided.

Robbers

Similar to many messages below I paid £1.49 for a digital manual in May and then unknown to me was charged £24.90 monthly subscription. It was 5 months and £124.50 before I realised. My email requests to them for a refund were ignored. Finally I complained to my credit card company and received a full refund within two days. Second Manual must dishonestly make thousands monthly. Don’t let them and their like get away with it.

A dishonest way of doing business

In the same way as almost every other reviewer I found out when I saw my Bank Statement that this company had taken £24.90 from my bank account 3 days after I had given them my Debit Card details to pay the requested £1.49 for the manual which I needed.
Their method of trading may not be illegal, but is dishonest and they have defrauded a large number of people. I am careful when making purchases online, and always on the outlook for scams, but the way their website is arranged, and the pathway for paying for the download of a manual, deliberately obscures the 'subscription' for which they deduct £24.90 per month.
