Not sure if we had a faulty machine, but this didn’t work at all. Machine smelled really bad upon collection and didn’t really clean the carpet at all. We’ve used Rug Doctor before with no issues, but maybe avoid The Range in Hemel Hempstead as I feel the machines are old/broken.

The first machine I rented, had to be taken back and replaced as the attachment leaked all over my floor. Fine, these things happen, it was replaced, just slightly inconvenient.
The replacement was absolutely disgusting, it stunk of ammonia, which I can only imagine was stale cat urine, as the bottom of the machine was covered in cat hair, there was also waste water and god knows else left in the waste tank and pungent gunk in the filter. No attempt to clean it. So I had to clean it before I could use it, and use half a can of air freshener to try and get rid of the smell.

From begining to end of the hire everything went Smoothly

Pretty good result, I've used Rug Doctor on previous occasions. The equipment doesn't remove absolutely all stains totally but the result was good enough and it's easy enough to use. The downside on this occasion was that the machine appeared to be leaking badly on the left side, particularly if movement was temporarily halted. This created 'puddling' of wet which had to be dried off using clean towels.

The first machine was broken which meant having to take it back (4,943 hours use). The second (521 hours) was OK but the hand held implement for the stairs was faulty and did not work properly. In future I will use the machine if only less than 200 hours use on it.

I used a locker facility inside a Tesco's. It was easy to book and really easy to collect. Everything I needed was there.
The instructions were clear and I also watched a quick YouTube video before I started.
Our carpets are over 20 years old and the machine pulled a lot of dirt out. I went over some areas in one room a second time and it was still pulling dirt out. I pretreated some big marks, but smaller marks it didn't remove very well. I think these machines are really good for an annual clean of your carpets, which is what we will do in our new house. The machine isn't so good on stains that have been there for a long time. I did find that the machine was good for lifting the pile where the carpet had been flattened by constant walking. I had carpet cleaner for four rooms. I used the machine on two double bedrooms, a small landing and a large lounge. There wasn't really quite enough cleaner. You have to add water and solution about halfway through a room so be careful how much solution you use. Next time I would get a larger bottle of solution.
Definitely freshened all the carpets and lifted the pile.
Would use again for sure, but on a more regular basis.

The machine worked great, just sad that the bottom was so dirty to start off with.

The machine was not cleaned. We had to clean it prior to use.

Booking and collection/return process easy.
No information sheets in the cage and no instructions on how to connect the hand cleaner.
Other than that, it works well, did a great job on my carpets and stairs

Ease of booking made simple

When booking it says there is an instruction leaflet in the locker on the door. I searched but there wasn't one there when I collected it. I wasted valuable time having to scroll through tutorials on you tube.
Once the rug doctor had finished the job, the carpets did look great.

When I put the machine in the car boot, it spilled a lot of water. Then when I opened it at home, I found the waste tank dirty and a filter section clogged with hairs and dirt (I have photos). Rugdoctor must check/clean machines before rental, which clearly did not happen in this case. My rental was from Morrisons in Acomb, York. When I received rented in July, I had a positive experience, but not today.

Customer service was excellent.

Hired the rug doctor on 10/0826. Used it for approx 10 minutes before the machine failed to process the solution , ended up with a hoover. Hired from port talbot morrisons locker code 9541. Would like my money refunded

Was allowed to book a pick up when the machine hadn’t even been returned so wasted journey.

I hired a Rug Doctor machine to clean my cream carpet, expecting it to make the carpet cleaner — unfortunately, the complete opposite happened.

When I started using the machine, it discharged a large amount of black residue all over my cream carpet. It was obvious that the machine had not been properly cleaned after the previous customer’s use. The black residue left a significant stain across the carpet, which I have been unable to remove.

I contacted Rug Doctor and, to their credit, they offered me a complimentary hire of another machine along with an additional spray for heavy staining. Unfortunately, despite using the second machine and the additional product as advised, the staining has still not come out.

I have now received a letter from Rug Doctor saying that there is nothing further they can do.

I find this extremely disappointing. I hired their machine to clean my carpet, but because the machine had not been properly cleaned, it has actually left my cream carpet stained. I have followed their advice and given them the opportunity to rectify the problem, but the stain remains.

I don’t think it’s reasonable for a customer to be left with a damaged/stained carpet as a result of using their equipment properly. At the very least, I would expect Rug Doctor to take responsibility for arranging professional cleaning to try to rectify the damage.

I would strongly recommend checking the condition of the machine before using it, particularly if you’re cleaning a light-coloured carpet.

Very disappointing customer service and, unfortunately, an experience that has left me questioning whether I would ever use Rug Doctor again.
