PlanHero works well
PlanHero works well, though I still stumble around some, even after a couple of training sessions. It seems a bit difficult to edit individual signups even though I am an administrator on our account. Still, I rarely need to do so.

Lifechanging for this small museum volunteer manager!
I work for a small museum and this has been lifechanging! We have a large volunteer base and previously used Sign Up Genius because it was the only free option out there for sign-ups. However on the backend it was clunky to use and our volunteers complained about it (especially the ads). While there is a fee to use PlanHero, it is EXTREMELY reasonable and something we were able to easily add into our budget. The process to creating sign-ups now is more streamlined and the ability for our volunteers to sign up for multiple events all at once has been such a gamechanger for us. Plus they are very responsive when you have trouble and need help.

unbelievably simple yet robust
Plan Hero is simple and easy to use but robust enough to organize volunteers for a multi-day event with a hundred people filling different roles at different times. We'd literally be lost without it.

Hey Jim - thanks for taking the time to review PlanHero. And importantly, thank you for your constructive criticism.
When we rewrote PlanHero's code, we paid careful attention to eliminating as many steps (screens) as possible to speed the process for participants signing up. In fact, we eliminated several screens.
The challenge we face is balancing the needs of users with multiple list/date/location signups with those users who only need participants to sign up for one thing (item or time spot).
If after one click, we shoot the person straight to entering their contact info, we do not give them the opportunity to add additional items or time spots. Nor do we give them the opportunity to select and sign up for other dates or locations. They would have to click back to view the signup again (and again and again).
And finally, we want to give them the opportunity to also easily change their selections on a single "shopping cart" screen before finalizing their signup(s). This way they don't have to click through a bunch of different screens to delete or change a signup.
This is why it takes three clicks in total to get to the contact info screen.
We hope that makes sense and is useful information. And again, we greatly appreciate the feedback. It keeps us on our toes and helps us constantly strive for greater simplicity.
