Amazing app
Amazing app to advertise food and non-food items. Have been able to sell my own items and been able to receive other needed items from kind strangers. Love being able to rescue food and stop the waste too. Best application I’ve downloaded in a while

Easy to use app
Easy to use app, excellent for getting free or bargain items, easy to give stuff away. Volunteers are lovely and work hard for the community, really appreciate their time and effort. Love being part of the Olio movement to reduce waste and encourage recycling.

It’s disgusting that they are offering…
It’s disgusting that they are offering expired food to charities or to the public while also expecting people to pay a subscription. This case should go to court, and the people responsible for taking money for this should be prosecuted. Expired food is a danger to public health. It should be disposed of, not consumed, and the company should pay for its disposal instead of treating people like garbage bins.

We do want to address this, because we think there's a misunderstanding about how Olio actually works.
Our retail partners only ever donate food that's within its use-by date on the day of collection, or within its best-before date. Our Food Waste Heroes are trained volunteers (they complete food safety training before they can collect) and part of that training is knowing that any food past its use-by date cannot be shared on the app.
If a business accidentally donates something past its use-by date, our volunteers are equipped to spot it, won't list it, and report it back to us so we can follow up with that business directly.
We also have systems in place that detect if food past its use-by date is being listed on the app and when that happens, the listing is taken down and penalties are applied.
And if you ever spot something that doesn't look right, you can flag it directly in the app too.
We take food safety seriously, and we're confident the safeguards we have in place reflect that.

I've had the Olio app for several years. Although I haven't collected much free food I have collected bunches of free flowers and bought and sold on Olio.
It's well worth joining.
The forum contains comments, recipes and recycling ideas from other Olioers and I find it a compulsive read.

I WAS JOBLESS ON SICK AND REALLY STRUGLLING AT THE TIME I STARTED OLIO. GETTING FREE FOOD WHICH IS CLEAN WAS AND IS A GREAT THING FOR ME. IT HELPED ME REALLY A LOT. NOW I AM A VOLUNTEER COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING FOOD FOR OLIO.

Free, easy to navigate, and reliable collection points. The only downside is the lack of order verification, and someone else collects the items without confirmation.

The idea is marvellous and noble but my experience has been ruin by a ridiculous bully of a squad leader. I didn't list my items just because of an emergency which I told my squad leader but my slot was removed. I reported to olio but nothing was doing instead all I've got even since are mean mails demanding that I list my items. It feels the an app was created and operated by a bunch of mean girls who peaked in high school. The sp called squad leader practically gave all her mates the slots and olio did nothing about it.
Update: They suspended people who give the app bad reviews. I'm still using a magnifying glass to search for the dirt on the counter top I used for my listing.

Thank you for being a Food Waste Hero and for sharing your experience with us. We're really sorry to hear you had an emergency, and we hope you're doing okay.
It's great that you let your Squad Captain know what happened. However, there's one more step that's really important: responding to the post-collection message. This message is sent automatically 1.5 hours after your slot if no listings have been added, and it's how our system tracks what happened at each collection.
We give everyone a 24-hour window to respond to it, precisely because we know that life can get in the way sometimes. If it isn't answered within that window, slots are unfortunately removed automatically.
This applies to all Food Waste Heroes equally, and it's there to keep things fair for our volunteers and store partners.

Olio drivers have been flytipping on…
Olio drivers have been flytipping on our local green for more that a year. They have been leavng large bags of Tesco and Sainsburys bread, 9well out of date), originally in all the plastic wrappings which rats and squirrels were shredding and scattering, now, by removing the wrappers and scattering big chunks of bread over a treasured local green space. It has been identified as foodstuffs collected by Olio be the reduced labels on the wrappers, and 2 branches of Sainsburys and 3 of Tescos have become involved and spoken to their Olio contacts. Olio's conduct is shameful, - we were originally anxious about reporting it as we did not want to stop leftover usable food being passed to them for distribution to those who need it. The products which are not passed on to people who can benefit from them should be properly and responsibly disposed of.

Concept good but execution not always great
I am what Olio call a food waste hero.
The concept is good but the execution can be rubbish at times.
I have been signed up since January and gradually getting the hang of how to distribute food waste from supermarkets
Until !!! Something went wrong with there communication system with the supermarket. I turned up for a Save Me allotted slot and was told by the supermarket that they weren’t expecting me and there was no food waste to collect. No problem. But my listing did not appear on the website so I couldn’t explain what had happened. So I filled out a report form to say what had occurred. The next day I received a warning and said my slots had been removed as punishment. 3 days later and 4 emails and reports made I have heard nothing from Olio. I have been going round and round in circles to try and resolve the problem but there is no human face or voice behind Olio. I just want to talk to a human being !!! An apology would be nice to for this mess up.

Thank you for being a Food Waste Hero and for taking the time to share your experience. We can hear how frustrating this has been, and we're sorry you've felt like you've been going round in circles with no one to turn to.
When there's no food available at a collection, there are two important steps: reporting it via the Issue Report Form on the Volunteer Hub, and responding to the post-collection message (which arrives around 1.5 hours after your slot).
If that message isn't answered within 24 hours, our system isn't able to verify what happened, which is most likely what triggered the removal of your slots.
We know that's not immediately obvious, and we appreciate it can feel unfair when you did everything you could on the day.
If you think the warning was issued in error, please email us at hello@olioapp.com with your account details and we'll look into this properly for you.
Your dedication to reducing food waste really does make a difference, and we hope we can get this sorted so you can get back to doing what you do best. 💚

Good app to reduce food wastage
It's really good app to reduce food wastage but the problem is rating, you need many good ratings to increase your overall rating but due to a single bad rating your points reduce drastically and you get overall bad rating easily due to a single bad rating.

It's worth knowing that once you reach 10 ratings, our system automatically ignores the highest and lowest scores when calculating your average, specifically to protect against unfair impacts from a single bad rating.

Olio removed my app rating as it wasn’t…
Olio removed my app rating as it wasn’t 5*. Offered something for free and gave approximate postcode to arrange collection. Within half an hour a man was banging my door, I did not give him full address. Luckily I wasn’t home alone. On messaging olio support, I was told it was a blurred location and was probably a local who recognised it by landmarks/ trees etc, (not true it’s quite a new build). Would not raise the complaint regarding personal safety. Fobbed off completely, any person avoid for your own safety and peace of mind.
