Proceed only if absolutely necessary - otherwise, AVOID these guys. If you must engage, follow these precautions:

1. Inspect thoroughly: Check both the exterior and interior of the vehicle for any signs of damage or wear.
2. Test drive before acceptance: Do not accept delivery without a brief drive to confirm everything is functioning correctly.
3. Watch for rushing: Delivery drivers tend to be in a hurry. If they appear rushed, it's best to avoid proceeding.
4. Clean and verify on the spot: If the vehicle is dirty - especially the windscreen - request to wash it while the driver is present. A tiny scratch (really tiny and absolutely negligible) on the windscreen went unnoticed at pickup and ended up costing me over £1,000. Completely outrageous.
5. Inspect all angles: Take your time to check every corner of the vehicle, including hard-to-see areas like the roof.

Absolutely scam company

Absolutely scam company! BEWARE
I rented a van in March from NVR to drive belongings to Italy.
When I took delivery of the vehicle it had body work damage which was noted but it seemed in road worthy condition, I had little time to wait for a replacement vehicle.
One week before returning to the UK I had a mechanical problem with the van , I had taken European breakdown cover which is obligatory.
Calling the assistance number for EU I was told I had no cover abroad as NVR had not updated my insurance information. I had to then make multiple calls to establish that indeed I did have cover .
I was then authorised to take the van to a garage who subsequently told me the vehicle needed a part. I had to pay for this myself as the warranty is no longer valid for a UK registered vehicle in the EU.
I eventually received authority from NVR to go ahead & fix their vehicle so I could return to the UK.
Unfortunately the time frame & delays with fixing the van necessitated me in having to return to the UK & leaving the van with the garage.
I was told at the end of June that my refund had been processed & I was due £2,332 , this includes repairs to their vehicle paid for by myself , the deposit , & my travel expenses back to the UK.
After making repeated phone call’s , sending emails & promises from NVR that the accounting department will get back to me , I have received no response.
The only number to reach NVR on is maned by remote workers who have no ability to communicate with other people in the company except by email.
The headquarters in Cardiff is also a virtual office location.
I’m now seeking compensation through my credit card provider & other legal means to recover money owed to me.
Book a van with this cowboy outfit at your peril !

No issue with booking or the car being…

No issue with booking or the car being delivered and collected. No problem with the car. My issue is I have been waiting since 9th June to receive my deposit back (they said it would be 7-10 days). It is now 1st August. I have emailed and spoke to customer service but as yet have not received the deposit.

Steer clear

Company could not supply reserved vehicle on the day. The replacement was so late we lost a day of rental.on return the van was also late being inked after several delays. The company rep had no company I.D. , took keys then made an inspection without informing us to accompany him. We then had £90 taken from our deposit for supposed dog hair in one of the door wells. Repeated calls to customer service were unanswered. It then took nearly 6 weeks to get the remainder of our money back.in conclusions if you want to wait all day for delivery and collection, if you are ok to have some of your deposit taken under a pretext, and if you are ok to wait a month and a half for your deposit back then hire their vans otherwise steer clear.

Warning do not hire from this company…

WARNING . Do not hire from this company as you will struggle to get your deposit back . I booked a 17 seater mini bus back in April two days before we were due to have the bus delivered had a call to say that the bus had been involved in a incident and were unable to supply it so offered a nine seater vehicle, being we needed 17 seats I was amazed that was the offer maybe two would have been a option. I expressed this would not be large enough and the girl said she would try to sort something else and ring me the next day . Ten minutes after the call had a text to say my booking had been cancelled rang them and after the phone being hung up twice said what is going on a different lady said I had refused the nine seater , I said this was a lie and told that’s what the girl had wrote ( a lie ) I accepted the nine seater as we were due to get the vehicle the next day and then had to hire another vehicle from a different company. Was told the different in price would be refunded. Then after our return the vehicle was collected and the nightmare began.. it was returned the 30th may and the fight I had to get my deposit / refund back. It was a large amount as a mini bus deposit was a lot of money I sent numerous emails that many went unanswered and phone calls that would be answered and then hung up . I am disabled and the frustration and stress I endured . Was told it was put to the accounts department and someone would get back to me. One girl in particular on the phone was so rude and even hung up on me during a conversation to ask when I would get my money back she has a mono tone that she cannot be bothered to listen to you so disrespectful how this person still has a job. I had to threaten legal action and eventually got my money back 14th July over six weeks after the return of the vehicle. I had hire a vehicle from another company and the deposit from them was returned the day after we returned the vehicle. I will give credit to those who deserve it I spoke to a lady called Faza whom listened and put the matter to the accounts department and the man the delivered and collected the vehicle was really professional and very pleasant shame this company does not have more of these people. This experience caused me so much worry and no interest paid for all the weeks they had my money and I had to wait for the refund

Haven’t returned deposit

Hired a van on 13 May and still (21 July) have not received my deposit despite receiving an email on 21 May stating my deposit had been released nd I was to expect it in my account within 7-10 days. Now not responding to my emails so it looks like I will have to follow the BVRLA dispute process or small claims court. Terrible service and will not use again.

Absolutely the worst car hire company ever

Absolutely the worst car hire company, I would give them zero stars if I could. On their website it says they will deliver the car to you, I called them at 10am and their agent said they could deliver me a car by 3.30pm that day. I was surprised but happy. At 1.30pm, they emailed me saying I had to get somewhere 1.5 hours drive from where I was (4 hours by public transport) by 6pm to pick up the car. I called and told them that wasn't possible and they'd effectively stranded me as if they'd said at 10 they couldn't deliver a car I would have worked something else out. As it was, I ended up taking a £120 taxi to the nearest physical car rental place, to get there before they closed. If nationwide hadn't lied about being able to deliver a car I could have taken public transport there and saved myself a lot of money. Customer services on the phone talked some crap about agents not knowing if cars are available. They honestly couldn't care less about the shitty position they'd put me in. Don't sell someone something you don't have, it's not difficult. Really awful, would never use them again, impatiently waiting for my refund.

Drove to Switzerland in their premium estate - comfortable for long motorway hours. Border crossing documentation was all prepared perfectly. Even provided snow chains when we asked!

Don’t use this rental company…

Don’t use this rental company…, I used this car rental company few weeks ago and I was really disappointed to have used them, they don’t want to return your deposit and they come back with various charges on the van that was returned in a satisfactory condition. Don’t trust them and be really careful if you are dealing with them.

Family Holiday Solved

8-seater minibus for our Cornwall trip was perfect - plenty of space for luggage and kids. The rear entertainment system kept children happy for hours. Air conditioning worked brilliantly in the heatwave!

Awful experience like many here. Hired a 9 seater to go to Europe for a weekend. As well as taking the £750 security deposit at the time of booking (in January, 5 months in advance), like many others on here I was then unable to get this money back. Here’s their process. They collect the vehicle and the collector signs it off (2 Jun) However this then needs to go back to NVR which takes them up to 5 working days to confirm (10th June). You then get an email confirming a clean return and that your deposit will be refunded in 7-10 working days(!) (it doesn’t take that long for them to take the deposit obviously). This period passes without success and then you try to contact them. They take details, promise call backs from accounts which never materialise and then start to simply put the phone down when you call. Long story short - had to claim back via PayPal complaints who processed refund in 48 hours. Finally got it today (8th July)
The vehicle needed an Adblue top up, had a slow puncture which needed sorting twice and an overdue service light as well as over 40 noted dents, scrapes etc.
The attitude of their call-handling staff is awful.
They claim 22 years experience on their website but the limited company was set up in 2019. They claim to “prioritise customer service”, “no surprises”, and a “stress free” experience. These are all lies and I do not believe any of their 5 star reviews.
My guess is they are using our deposits to keep the company afloat - check their last accounts which took 15 months to file and are now over 2 years old.
Go elsewhere - we had used Europcar for years and only went here because they closed the local depot. I would walk 10 miles to collect a vehicle rather than use these charlatans again
Avoid at all costs
I am now just waiting for the standard banal reply they put at the end of every review
