Make sure you read the one star reviews before taking out a policy with MyFirst! At first they will sell you the dream policy and say go for the lower milage option 5000 miles and then top up. Tell you that there are 10 monthly payments because the deposit pays the first payment. Don't worry about the speed it doesn't matter if you go over by a little bit we don't panelise you for it. I asked you could drive at anytime of the day their reply was yes no problem. My daughter's score was one star for driving to college and work placement in the mornings and if we used it at night the same so be wary.
The deposit was hefty and our policy was not starting for a month. The black box was delivered and then the borderline harassment started with texts and phone calls for a month regarding the fact that the black box hadn't been fitted. I told them numerous times that I would not fit it until the insurance policy changed to theirs but still the harassment continued.
They took the first payment when they said they wouldn't and when I rang to complain they said they had listened to the telephone conversation but not the second conversation when it was said and was basically told I had imagined it.
I had a bad feeling about it all and after 6 weeks cancelled the policy which involved a hefty £165 cancellation fee so 4 months cost us approx £1250 (deposit, monthly payments, sneaky fees and cancelation) for less than 2000 miles driving!
They scheduled a payment for the cancellation fee which they failed to implement and then rang a few days later telling me sternly that I hadn't paid!
More harassment regarding returning the black box for recycling with text messages/emails daily until the envelope arrived a week later and as soon as it came through the letter box I had a text asking to send it now the envelope had arrived. The texts continued until I posted it the next day.
I got cheaper insurance with Admiral for 12000 miles and no black box
It will be interesting to see what the reply will be to the points I have raised.
This is an honest review by a very disgruntled, financially worse off parent!!!!

Extremely disappointing experience with First Insurance. After taking out a policy, we realised within 2 days that we would not be proceeding due to affordability and contacted them well within the 14-day cooling-off period to cancel.
Despite sending multiple emails and making several calls, we received no proper response. We were even promised a callback that never happened. We also never received the black box, and the policy had not even started.
Shockingly, later around 5pm, we received a call insisting we pay over £300 for a policy taken out just 2 days earlier—with more than 5 days before it was even due to start—simply because we chose to cancel. This was extremely insensitive and unacceptable.
They claimed they had already provided a service simply by selling the policy, yet were attempting to charge for a black box that had not even been posted. This felt like a complete rip-off and showed a clear lack of care for customers.
The moment you sign, it feels like you are already locked in and the cooling-off period makes no real difference. There is pressure to take out the policy quickly, often at a high cost with limited benefits. It feels like young drivers are being targeted because they know people are desperate.
We are expected to pay and wait for a black box we would never even use because we cancelled. We genuinely felt taken advantage of.
Very frustrating experience—poor communication, lack of support, and feels like a complete rip-off. I would strongly advise others to check other insurance providers first before considering them.

CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM JASPER IS THE BEST
Today I phoned myfirstcarinsurance as they came recommended from previous learner driver insurers I’m so glad I phoned JASPER took my call listened to my needs n recommended a good car insurance policy for my daughter I had to do all the enquiries as she busy at work so jasper explained the best policy for our needs and circumstances I listened very carefully to the quote price and made a quick decision as I got a further friendly person discount and optional extras free what a bargain I am a very happy customer so everything is finalised deposit paid n big thankyou to jasper at customer services.
