Don't bother, Waste of time and money
Don't bother, honestly if you need a black box policy, get a hard fitted one, or one that doesn't use theo devices. Since changing car on my policy, i've replaced cradle and fitted it to my car, yet it's not been registered and theres nowhere for me to upload a photo like I've been instructed to, this could be down to the Carrot insurance app, however the theo device should surely recognise when its attached to a car and being driven around, which also cant identify speed limits correctly, and gives you a bad score for driving below speed limits
Rip Off and Annoying
Daughters car insurance came with device supplied by theo. Insurance was cancelled within 3 days, however device had been posted out at a charge of £160. Theo sending an email every two days wanting device back so they can reuse it, however no option of refund on the £160. Won't be returning it, however this is verging on harassment now as get emails and text messages every couple of days. Can't reply to emails or texts as "no-
reply" addresses.

The Theo came with my daughters first insurance policy.
On her eight mile trip to school it has got the speed limit wrong on two different roads saying its a 30 mph when actually 60 mph.
Flagged up for speeding so had to spend time taking pictures of the speed signs and many emails to get sorted. Data base is not fit for purpose and a right pain in the backside. Why is modern life such a bloody nightmare!

From threatening emails to threatened cancellations the list goes on , had to purchase a number of cradles in whitch not one of them strayed on my window screen considering I followed all procedures, I contacted them on a number of occasions and got nothing back but basically said I wasn’t doing what they asked whitch I deffo was , surely a good business comes of good customer service and communication whitch this company knows nothing about , made my life hell from the minute I used this company , do not use if u want a happy and save money life style , awful , cancel and go to Hastings

My son had the Theo since August it was working ok at first now it’s not after numerous calls to insurance their saying they are going to cancel the insurance it falls off the window screen a new cradle and still falls off done the full recharge and resetting but still not working not sure how we go about this issues? No one to contact you car’nt reply to to emails they send you total shambles.

I got the Theo device in August as a means to reduce my insurance premium, as I am confident of my driving etc. The last data I have on record was 24/10/24. I have been sent 2 cradles since then to charge and reinstall the device. Unfortunately, still no data. Upon contacting the company through the given email, my email was undelivered. I have requested for my insurance company for me to switch to a policy without the device, no reply...... Mega frustrated.

Only going over speed limit by 2 or 3 mph when approaching a change in speed limit but still scoring 5 stars
Now my policy has only 4 months before renewal.
Average scoring dropping down to 79 to 80%
And now only getting 2 or 3 stars for 2 mph over speed limit.

Also I was personally offended. When they sent me an email telling me it gets darker earlier in October which might affect visibility. I'm a 52 year old taxi driver. I KNOW IT GETS DARK EARLIER IN THE WINTER

Rip Off..... completely ruined the confidance of my sons driving. Inaccurate at best.
I would argue these are actually dangerous to use.... The driver becomes so anxious about their speed limit that they fail to concentrate on the road

Worst thing we have ever bought my daughter has been driving 5 days she haven't been doing over the speed as I have checked but she has 25 eventd they said they would remove 5 of them but they still haven't as she was only was doing 45mph in a 60mph zone and apparently it Is 30mph according to the app they have also done her for doing 30mph in a 50mph zone on the app its 20mph they gave her 2 event yesterday when she didn't even go out in her car driving the theo box is a waste of space don't recommend it
Overpriced
Bought a new car and had to swich my blackbox over and it cost me 25 for 2 pieces of plasic literal scam artists. Never goijg back to them when my insurance is up wouldnt recommed

Night time use of vehicle constantly questioned, didn’t realise my 20 year old daughter was under curfew as soon as this thing was installed in her vehicle, seriously insurance companies need to ditch the Theo black box, because your younger drivers will move their custom elsewhere after the first 12 months. Avoid at all costs

Absolutely useless, warning to all never take a policy that uses Theo will constantly say you are speeding when you aren’t, fall of windscreen and need charged all the time it’s terrible, I’ve spent more time on phone to insurance correcting Theo issues than I have driven my car over the space of 8 months

Joke of a company terminated my insurance because I never slowed down quick enough from a 50mph road to a 30mph said it was dangerous driving with cars behind me doing 50mph they say they give leeway for drivers slowing down but there was no leeway giving defiantly wouldn’t recommend this company!!
Pathetic so far
Pathetic so far. Bought insurance but not starting for another 12 days. Thingco sent me the theo box closely followed by email and text every day saying I have not installed the box and will have insurance cancelled...wonder how I install on a car I don't have yet and for a policy not yet in force...and when you try to discuss with them the chat request on their website is not answered and no other means to contact. No doubt another twelve days of threats to endure before I pick up the car and try to install their thing. Very very poor. Acorn insurance just say they can't control the messaging as not their doing...well get your stupid contractor sorted out then.

Theo device is terrible had it only 1 month with 2 threats saying there gunna cancel my insurance. I will admit first strike was my fault but second strike there accusing me of doing 42 in a 30 on a 50mph dual carriage way , loads of mistakes it says i have when instead its the stupid blackbox saying im going different directions , will be phoning them up and complaing , wouldnt suggest these guys

Would like to give zero stars as the Theo device is awful
It doesn’t securely fit to the windscreen and keeps falling off. I keep getting threats of policy cancellation unless I purchase a new device even though the one we have works just doesn’t stay secure to window. I have had to purchase 2 new devices at a total cost of £60 and the 3rd one keeps falling off too. I refuse to buy a new one but keep getting messages to cancel the policy. Terrible customer service with advisors reading a script for all answers and not understanding the individual issue.

Awful experience with this black box. Extremely disappointed in Theo/ThingCo. I have young persons driver insurance through Co-Op which provides me with a Theo black box. I have had nothing but issues with it not working and am continuously told my policy is going to be cancelled even after constantly recharging, resetting and reinstalling the device in my car. I will be glad to move to a better young driver policy at the end of this policy year!
Theo box/ ThingCo / Acorn Insurance failures
Theo box provided by Acorn Insurance via ThingCo, the utterly useless company who provide false information. Son took out young persons insurance at the beginning of November and has been told 3 times in less than 1 month that he is speeding, when in fact, ThingCo have not got up to date details on the road speed limits and we have had insurance policy threatened to be cancelled.
And to top it off, the device does not stay stuck to window.
UPDATE: Financial conduct authority now involved and has agreed my son is owed back just under £2k
