Having been a customer for years for rugby player insurance, I submitted a claim for an injury I sustained. Having been told in writing that I would be covered for the injury (on an old policy), I took out a new policy in good faith. My claim then took months to review,and was subsequently rejected with a long-winded excuse (which they could have taken a decision on quickly, rather than making me wait and wait). I even complained, which wasn't worth their time or mine. On viewing reviews in the last year, it seems that something substantial has changed at MetLife, and they are not worth the money for insurance. On balance, my advice would be to look elsewhere for your insurance. There are other companies with better service, and who live up to their word.

Made a straightforward claim for my…
Made a straightforward claim for my son's broken arm. Husband and I both on our own policies so we can each claim on the same form. Submitted 3/09/25. Supporting documents from doctor etc submitted about 3 weeks later. Still no movement or update on my claim. When I phone, I am told that it they are very busy. No time frame given. Don't let the 3-5 days selling point fool you.

Excellent product for my family
My advisor is very knowledgeable. Excellent presentation and pitch. Everything well explained and all my questions answered. Our requirements were all covered and we are impressed and happy to be represented by our advisor. My family is now covered.

Pays within 3-5 days, jokers. My wife has been paying into these scam artists for the past 3 years and has the Plus package with them. She had an accident 3 months ago which is now resulting in a double hip replacement. Read that back- yes three months ago and we still are being told it’s going through the system. I’m currently off of work due to an auto immune disease requiring chemotherapy treatment, my wife is self employed. This means we have currently 0 income coming into the house. This is the reason we have insurance in case of this eventuality. It’s is abhorrent that we are still waiting for the insurance we have paid for for over three years!! It’s disgusting. I can’t believe the situation you have left us in, my wife has been damned near suicidal! We will be calling back in today, after being told last week, that someone would call us with an update by Monday… it’s now Thursday. I do hope you’ve gotten your act together as this will be taken much much further if not. I’m just disgusted you’d leave another human being like this, our situation is dire. And it’s sad to see reading recent reviews we aren’t the only ones. You need investigating, and sadly we currently have the time to get that process underway.

Sold as a 5 day process... 'Hello, week 11!'
Currently into 11th week of a claims process that was sold to me as '3/5 days from application' what was failed to mention is that getting to 'application' stage is a laborious process which now includes forms completed by my Dr, lengthy forms by me & dozen other documents, including; Xrays, operation details, discharge notes etc.
injury policy was sold to me as an amateur rugby player as an additional product to compliment the critical illness and income protection I already have, due to the pay-out time of this product being enormously quicker and being a small financial stopgap to pay for bills/costs in the short term after injury. My income protection pays out after 8 weeks - I've had 3 months of bills, more paperwork and still waiting on this smaller lump sum for what are very black/white injuries.
Moreover, nothing seems to happen unless I chase for it - didn't find the letter from my Dr for 4 days, but found it 8mins after I called them. I call for an update and get told with be assessed within 3 days, call back a week later and advised nothing was escalated but will be within 3 days - currently day 2.
Poor customer service and ridiculous wait times from a product that is and was sold as impeccably simple to claim.

I wouldn’t waste your money
I wouldn’t waste your money, pay monthly for years, to finally need a claim, to be refused, wish I never bothered paying £16 a month for so long, and saved my money.
Sold one cover saying you would be covered for accidents, broken bones, operation’s, to claim and be told you should have been on another cover, anything to save there money.

Wanted to update my policy and add something on.the advisor answered all my questions in a way I could understand .he was polite and knowledgeable .I would recommend this company especially if like me you need everything explaining in a way you can understand without all the jargon etc

MetLife are fabulous
Met life have paid out promptly and efficiently each time I’ve claimed. Once for a broken leg and for my hospital stays. They are fabulous and customer service is always excellent! I don’t understand the bad reviews on here. When no one else would insure me because of my medical conditions Met Life did. I’m very grateful.

Only just joined this for my husband and children don’t even realise you could add on the children which is a added reassurance - the application process was quick , informative no pressure time before and after if there was any questions - overall the best company in my option in terms of the first part of the process ( other companies cold call) this company are word of mouth and I only joined as my son recommended- I now will 100% recommend jack from MetLife

From bad to worse...
I've been with this insurance company for eight years and I've seen standards change for the worse. My last claim was delayed, and I had to call several times to get any information. My current claim (both for a hospital stay for the same medical reason) has remained unanswered for two weeks. I've called twice already, and nothing—no confirmation, no response from the case management team. Lack of information, zero communication, and complete ignorance toward the customer. I don't recommend it.

By far the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Their claim form is vague and misleading, they do not respond to you for weeks following a claim and they do not pay medical invoices they are insured to do!
WARNING. They use a NON_APPROVED medical partner called Health Hero, which gives false advice. AVOID!
Highly recommend Metlife UK…
I only took out life insurance with accident cover this year 2025 with Metlife UK because it was a straight forward application with good coverage
Fast forward just over 3 months and I broke my back in a bike accident.
I actually forgot I had accident insurance for the first week or 2 then it dawned on me I did!.
Unable to walk let alone anything else I emailed Metlife, they sent me the forms,my Dr filled in the small medical section and I posted it.
About five weeks later they paid out,no questions asked into my bank account.
The online portal kept me up to date and they were easy to contact through it.
An amazing,professional and friendly company I would recommend to anyone looking for affordable life insurance that also covers injuries,hospital stays plus lots more.
At a time I was in severe pain, anxiety and uncertainty about my future Metlife really came through.
Because of Metlife I was able to afford a new bed which helped immensely with my recovery (not cheap) and helped with ongoing bills as broken back or not life doesn’t stop and neither do the bills.
Thank you Metlife at one of the possibly hardest times of my life you came through for my wife and i.
Highly recommend if you don’t have insurance get in touch with Metlife UK.
