Sorry but this was not a good tipple at all.

Received a bottle from my SO for christmas. Upon opening, the top exploded off from a huge amount of secondary fermentation. Nearly took my mum's eye out on christmas day....

Mead should not be fizzy, this was super super carbonated. But it wasn't a bad drink on the day.

Next day, however, it was still fizzy but now had lost all of it's flavour entirely. There was still an aroma of honey but no taste whatsoever.

Wrote to the company to advise them of a potentially bad and they have essentially ignored me barring an initial request for an order number. Not impressed.

Edit: After a few emails back and forth with one of the members of staff, my present has been replaced with a very tasty mead. Thanks to Dan for sorting me out!

What Love and Devotion to a craft!

Such excellent quality, I love the pure craftmanship of all the handmade products. You can tell there's real love and care and devotion that goes into each handmade item!
This is a real, hard working independant crafter who only works to support others - whether through partnership or charities.
I never have a doubt whether to buy gifts from here or not. Even when one of my orders had a bit of trouble, the response was nothing but nice and understanding!

Very poor

First, the seller implying I was late Xmas shopping is totally disingenuous and I made this clear in our conversation FACEBOOK.......I was NOT expecting delivery in time for Xmas!!
I know it's a busy time of year but ignoring messages and emails is unacceptable!
I really wish I hadn't ordered from this company and couldn't get a reply to my request to cancel my purchase and refund to enable me to buy elsewhere.
I had to contact them on their Facebook page before I got a response which was that they weren't " in the office" until after Xmas. This should have been made clear on their website.......I wouldn't have known why my order hadn't been processed until after the 27th. Very poor customer service.
As you can see from the lengthy reply from the seller, they totally missed the point and really don't see they are at fault. Taking orders on the website with no information regarding any delay to an order being dispatched. It would be common courtesy to inform buyers that they had no intention of answering any emails or dispatching a customer order until after the 27th. We all work hard and deserve time off! But by taking orders when you are not intending to post is a tad disingenuous. Poor customer service and I will not be purchasing again.
The refund has STILL not shown as a pending transaction in my account!

This is very sad to see as we had a long chat via our Facebook page regarding your order (that was placed at 15:00 on the 22nd Dec). Where you requested a refund, which was processed whilst we spoke. And a screenshot for confirmation was also sent to you. I also advise you, that it would take 3-5 working days to process as this is customary with the card providers, and out of out hands.

I also offered to personally go into the unit today (as I was near by), and ship you order. But advised it likely wouldn't arrive as it was left so close to Christmas.

We do aim to ship all in stock orders within 2 working days where possible. Sadly, Royal Mail set their last business collection say as Friday the 20th. Which meant that anything we dispatch after that won't be collected until their service resumes on the 27th. As a very small business (just 3 persons) who have worked extremely tirelessly this festive period. I gave my staff the days off to spend with their family. I sincerely apologise that this effected your extremely late shopping.

I replied to your Facebook message within 30 seconds and an our of hours email reply was also sent.

Proof of refund was sent, and (as repeatedly explained) this will take between 3 and 5 working days as is customary by the card providers, and is out of our control.

As, previously mentioned, I'm struggling to really understand the complaint, as your order was offered to be processed and personally dropped off at a post office (because royal mail last collection date had passed). Something your refused, and requested a refund. Which was issue.

I understand the item wasn't for Christmas, but also don't quite understand the frustration of an after Xmas delivery in that case.

But either way, a refund has been issued, which will be with you in the 3-5 working day period.

I'm disappointed to be honest

I'm disappointed to be honest, I've heard great things about the mead from a pal who likes your mead, easy as.

Ordered on a Sunday with the assumption an in-stock item might be shipped Monday-Wednesday given it's Christmas, sadly nothing did get sent in that time frame so I emailed off follow up with a request for a different address as soon my work will be closed for Christmas.

This hasn't been seen, but did get a quick reply on social media today (Friday) and as if by magic it's not been marked as shipped, of course to the original address which will be shut come 4pm today, so it's either going to get taken to the sorting office with no way to get the card to collect, or left on the step and stolen.

Either way, my girlfriend is down a Christmas present with no time to secure an alternative in time, I've asked for a refund and suddenly they're not quick to reply to me again.

2 stars because I've tasted the mead before, it's good, it's just my experience that means I won't be back.

Thanks Dan, it was accurate at the time of writing and you know this, you did promptly reply within a few minutes of my comment, and further replies, then nothing for 7+ hours after I asked for a refund. You know this and the various time stamps show that.

Everyone is busy, I mentioned this in the email you didn't read, along with the request of an address change and referenced in out brief interaction on Facebook.

It's also worth noting, while you did quickly get a tracking number sorted, it wasn't collected by RM all day, so you still had opportunity to rectify it.

Oh well.

Of course I don't believe it to be personal.

As you may know as a Royal mail account holder, you can submit a stop and return request on tracked services, it'll be intercepted prior delivery, it costs the same rate you've paid and tbh I'd be happy if you did that and refunded me minus postage I've paid, plus the fee for stop and return. I think that's a fair resolution for us both, following a few emails looking at the S&R option, Dan went ahead and refunded the order, minus the postage paid, all being well royal mail will not be able to deliver and it'll head back.

You indeed asked is for a refund. To which we *very clearly* replied saying that a refund of course would be issued, as soon as the items arrive back with us. Which will be the case if delivery cannot be made. I can send you the screenshot of this, if you missed it.

I'm sorry that your assumption of when the item woul ship wasn't correct. I can only apologise for that. We strive to ship all parcels as quickly as possible. We have been unprecedentedly busy this year, which has meant thing have taken slightly longer. We are a very small team of use 3, and have been working 12+ hours shipping everything to deliver in time for Christmas. We're sorry that noone will be at the address you supplied.

Your request for address change was sent on Thursday, sadly we didn't see it before shipping first thing Friday morning as we saw your message on social media, and shipped as a matter of priority.

I would have been willing to try and find a solution, possibly sending a second set to the alternative address, had you not come across offensive accusing us of "not being bothered" to deal with your order faster.

Hey Andy,

If you check the comment thread on Facebook, you'll clearly see us state we will refund you as soon as the parcel arrives back with us.

We "did read" your email, unfortunately we had already packed and dispatched the parcel. As we have already explained, we are a very small team that was extremely stretched. We prioritise packing and dispatching, and check emails at the end of the end or in small pockets throughout the day. You gave us less than 24 hours notice of an address change.

As a small businesses owner (as you claimed to be), you should understand that Royal Mail don't scan parcels on collection. They collect the sacks of parcels, and scan a manifest. Once the parcels are at the depot (in the evening), and emptied from the sacks, they are scanned. We have two Royal Mail collections a day during busy spells one in the am and one pm. Yours was collected in the am collection.

Hopefully this helps understand that is wasn't a personal issue with your order. It was simply we didn't have time to check emails for an address change.

As I previously stated, feel free to email me (or call me I'll provide a number via email) and we can look at solutions.

I'm sorry you feel like this has happened. However, I assure you there is some confusion. I have located your review, which is still visible. We also can't "create" reviews.

Regarding your original review, you bought the gift set from us in person at an event. ALL 3 flavours along with 30 others were available for you to sample and try before you buy. We do this so that you can avoid purchasing something you're not keen on.

If you email us and identify the "fake review", I'll contact the collection company and see if they can take look. And I can give you clarity on the original creator.

Gift set is so good and worth waiting…

Gift set is so good and worth waiting for. Initially didn't realise it contained a handmade item so wasn't aware of how long it would take as I missed the information but a quick check back on the website I realised I'd have to wait. Pretty much 4 weeks on the dot it was out for delivery and I can't fault the products. Never used them before but will definitely return for future gifts!

Two gift boxes, love them! highly recomend

I got two gift set horns with Mead. I did read that it takes up to 4 weeks, I got nervous in the 4th week after not seeing any changes to my order; such as processing or in production and sent an email asking about my order. I didn't get a reply BUT it was all worry for nothing as my product arrived about 3 days later.

Trust the process! Wait the 4 weeks before worrying!
Looking at the product now it's beautiful!! Well worth the wait!

The only advice to Horns of Odin is it's a lot of money to spend to not get updates on your product; until it is at your door, especially waiting 4+ weeks. But again well worth the wait love my product and highly recommend it!

Ordered end of September it did state can take 4 weeks for them to make the horn, exactly 4 weeks later received a dispatch email. Items were delivered only a couple of days after dispatch. Excellent company will definitely use again 👍

I sent an email on 27 October to follow up. It shouldn’t matter which email address I contacted the company at, their customer service never replied regardless.

The email I used for all correspondence and for my order is the same. So that is totally incorrect and irrelevant.

Royal Mail confirmed to me that the parcel wasn’t received, so what else would I be led to think other than it wasn’t sent to them.

I have waited long enough and had a bad enough experience with the customer service of this company that of course I pursued a refund and do not desire a replacement.

It seems the only way to get a reply from this company is to leave a bad review. Despite the response to my initial review, I sent another email which was ignored. This company appears to be very good at coming up with excuses. Royal Mail never did receive my parcel. It was simply never sent. I had to request a refund via my bank. What an utter disappointment. Don’t give them your business.

I have read other low reviews for this company where I can see that the customer may have been in the wrong, however I placed an order 7+ weeks ago, I’ve heard nothing from the company and I've still not received my delivery. I am an understanding person, and have seen that they are a small business, but at what point do you accept that you are failing to provide basic customer service? I knew there was a 4 week wait for the item I ordered which was intended as a gift. I built in a week of spare time to allow for dispatch and delivery time (48 hour tracked apparently) in order to receive the item to give it as a gift. 5 weeks came and went. I sent 3 emails/messages, all of which received 0 response. I kept waiting because other reviews said the products were gorgeous, and I thought maybe it would be worth it. I eventually got an email saying it had been dispatched. It has not. When I go to track the supposed delivery using the tracking number provided the status says only that Royal Mail are expecting the parcel. This has remained unchanged for 10 days, so the company has not sent it. I’m supportive of small businesses and understanding of various pressures, but how difficult is it to take 1 minute to send an email saying: ‘thanks for getting in touch, we are sorry for your wait, it will be with you on XYZ a date’. There’s no excuse. I’m beyond annoyed. Seriously don’t give this company your money and do not waste your time, please.

As explained in my initial reply, Royal Mail would have no "trace" of the parcel as they are leaving parcels un-scanned during busy periods as to not enter them into their system and effect their advertised 48 hour shipping times.

Due to GDPR I can't share you emails publicly, but they are NOT the same emails. Which could suggest part of the issue, as order confirmations and tracking information is sent to the email used when ordering.

The refund has been issued. And we wish you all the best. We sincerely apologise for any failings/ confusion on our end.

Royal Mail did receive your parcel. Are you suggesting we print (and pay for) postage labels, and then never send an item? We've been established for 9 years. This would be an awful business model.

Your replacement item wasn't shipped BECAUSE you opened up the refund and charge back with the bank. The replacement item has been sat here waiting to dispatch, however, we are a very small company and cannot afford to send handmade items out for free.

We are sorry that you are disappointed with your order and that it hasn't arrived. You are correct it was dispatched, and a tracking number was sent to you via the email used when placing your order.

We completely agree that it is frustrating that the Royal Mail tracking says they they are "expecting your order". It's extremely frustrating for us also. We have around 20 orders currently stuck in that "limbo status". It appears as though during busy persons Royal Mail don't scan (and unfortunately often misplace) parcels until their backlog clears. As the first scan put the parcel into their system and will effect the 48 hour quota we pay for. This is something we have attempted to make customers aware of via social media, as we send hundreds of parcels a week and can't know which are effected sadly. They refuse to investigate until 14 days has passed.

I do apologise if our replys to emails haven't reached you. We have had an issue with our email host server flagging out outbound emails as spam automatically, and in some cases not sending.

We would always prefer for our customers to be receive their items. My personal email is dan@hornsofodin.com. I'll be more than happy to make sure this taken care of.

Unmatched Customer Service – The Best I've Ever Experienced!

I received a set of two drinking horns from a family member as a gift a few years ago, and recently, one of them started to leak. I contacted Horns of Odin to see if they could help, and I was blown away by their exceptional service! Not only did they repair the leaky horn free of charge, but they also replaced the other horn because it didn’t meet their own high standard—again, at no cost to me!

Niamh has been incredibly helpful, friendly, and communicative throughout the process, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. If only more businesses had the same level of customer service as Horns of Odin! They've truly gone above and beyond what I expected. When the new and repaired horns arrived (sent to me free of charge), they even included spare wax so I could reline the inside when it needed coating. Amazing attention to detail!

I cannot fault the experience and it’s made me want to buy more from them. Highly recommend!

Great products, communication needs work.

I was all prepped and ready to give a 3 star maximum review but then the Horn arrived and I really felt like I couldn't. It is beautifully crafted and the bind rune I requested is exactly what I asked for. The reason for the dropped star is the communication side of the company (I think others have also struggled). I placed an order for a rune drinking horn 4 weeks before my anniversary and requested a custom bind rune (which it was stated in the product info for the rune horn was possible to do). I very quickly recieved an email stating that I had ordered the wrong product and I needed to order the custom bindrune horn (more expensive) and would I like to amend my order. I replied immediately explaining what it said on the product info etc and unfortunately didn't get a reply for a week. Being honest here I did send a couple of emails and tried reaching out on chat as I was worried about it not arriving on time for anniversary (I ordered bang on 4 weeks before and lead time is stated as 4 weeks). Eventually I recieved an email saying that there was a response on the chat (couldn't see this) and had a small back and forth asking what the outcome was (was it OK not to change horn ordered) I was then told the rune symbol was being taken to the person in the workshop but not if everything was agreed and ok now. There was no response after this. I followed up again 3 weeks later as I hadn't had an update and was worried about timing for anniversary and received no response. The item arrived just over 5 weeks after my order (missed anniversary). I believe this is because of the slow communication and misunderstanding in the beginning. From other reviews it looks like it's a very small company and can understand the difficulty with responding to multiple emails but it was a little frustrating in this case particularly as I had carefully read the product description etc beforehand as requested on the website. However amazing product as already stated.

First off they basically took over a…

First off they basically took over a month to tell me the mead i ordered was not able to be sent. After they gave me an option of 2 other meads which were not my cup of tea but i chose one. They said they would have it sent the day i respond with the new mead choice. Weeks later the package was still not sent. I got a refund almost 2 months later. Atleast that was available. Other than the refund i had a horrible experience.

Thank you for your review but I would like to clear a few things up.

Your order wasn't for just mead. It was for mead AND a made to order drinking horn which has a production time of up to 4 weeks. Something that is VERY clearly stated in the item description. And you were notified by email as well. The time it took to process your order is down to this production time, as we handmake all horns in the UK.

Second, we did notify you about the initial mead being unavailable, and apologized. We gave you a choice of 4 other meads. You replied outside of working ours (please note we are a UK company, and time differences do apply). By the time we had got into work the next working day, we had an email from you very aggressively stating (and I quote), "refund my order from your fucking bullshit company". Something we did within 24 hours of your lovely request.
