Thank you to Melksham branch for replacing silicone pads this morning, and free of charge. So much more helpful than the Melksham Specsavers who refused help as the glasses were not purchased there and couldn't guarantee them? I wasn't expecting guarantees just some help. In light of my experience this morning, I would consider visiting your branch again for my next eye test as your customer service was so good.

Glasses Adjusted
I was told i couldn’t get my glasses adjusted at a competitor down the road, walked into haine & smith as i walked past, wonderful lady at the counter adjusted my glasses no problems, very friendly absolutely made my day

Just moved to the area and the service from start to finish was exceptional. Optician who tested my eyes explained everything in great detail. Assistant who helped me choose my glasses and gave advice with regard to the lenses went into great detail. Collected my glasses and they are perfect.

Years of great service

Visit to the Devizes practice
I visited the Devizes practice for a routine eye exam. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, and the receptionist was both friendly and attentive.
My eye exam was carried out by a kind, informative optician who made the whole experience comfortable. They were refreshingly honest about my eyesight, which, to my surprise, has actually improved. This was especially reassuring after a disappointing visit to a High Street competitor not long ago where I was given a prescription that was far too strong and left me with a splitting headache. The new prescription from Haine & Smith felt much more accurate and made a lot more sense.
I was considering getting contact lenses for the day-to-day, and the optician said it might not necessarily be worth it for how much better my vision has become, or only have some spares for events/special occasions. Again, great honesty with not trying to sell me something for the sake of it.
They have a great range of brands there, lots of jazzy colours and styles. I will be popping in soon to get my new prescription made up.
I used to be a Haine & Smith customer in Marlborough and had nothing but great service there, I wont go anywhere else now!

In that case, we note that our team identified a potential concern and made efforts to arrange a follow-up to ensure the best possible care. Unfortunately, the follow-up didn’t go ahead at the time, and we’ve had no further contact since.

H & S Head Office (Devizes) *NOT* the Branch
One of the owners (being the) Technical Director (Thomas Pears) is an expert at "passing the buck" and "NOT taking ownership of a complaint" registered against him/head office.
Following non existent customer care (at head office level) Thomas felt it would be "better" if the manager of the Corsham branch (who I get on very with) smooths over a complaint against him/head office (quote "because she offered") rather than he dealt with it himself. Of course that was totally unacceptable. I insisted on taking the matter up with him direct. I heard a lot of passing the buck saying "maybe my lady didn't pass the message onto me properly/perhaps there was miscommunication" etc. All unacceptable. This was a simple complaint that did NOT need to be escalated so highly. IN MY OPINION... great examples SHOULD come from the management/top (not bottom upwards!!)

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry that your recent experience left you feeling frustrated and unheard, particularly regarding the follow-up to your original request.
I’d like to clarify that your initial contact with Head Office concerned help with editing your Google review - something outside of our usual remit, but we were still happy to assist. Unfortunately, due to staff availability at the time, we weren’t able to return your call immediately. By the time my colleague was free to respond, it appeared that the review had already been successfully updated, and we genuinely believed no further action was required.
After your second review raised concerns, I personally discussed the matter with our Corsham Practice Manager, who kindly offered to reach out to you as she already had a good rapport with you. Her intention was to help, not to deflect your complaint. Nonetheless, I followed up with a direct phone call myself, as requested.
I'm sorry if my attempt to explain the situation gave the impression that I was avoiding responsibility, that was certainly not my intention. I take all feedback seriously, and regret that my efforts to resolve things left you feeling dissatisfied.
Rules over Customer Need
I have purchased several pairs of very expensive varifocals from Haine and Smith over the years. Whenever there is a problem it's like dealing with folk who want to treat you like a primary school pupil. Everything becomes a test of wills and there's a seeming lack of appreciation of the customers needs over the "rules".

My third visit to the premier opticians around. In the last twenty years I've tried most high street opticians and a couple of online stores, too, and received a variety of services from just plain average to poor [online] which is broadly what I anticipated. But Haine and Smith are head and shoulders above them all. Fantastic service and treatment. The eye test was comprehensive and so professional, and every aspect and condition of my eyes and vision were covered in great depth and detail. Everyone in the practice was so pleasant to deal with and couldn't be more helpful.
There are opticians, and then there's Haine and Smith. A premium service. I for one wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

Having sat on my glasses
Having sat on my glasses, they became lopsided when I put them on. Thought I may have purchased them from Specsavers, though through a different branch from Trowbridge. They could not help as they didn't think they were Specsavers glasses, and they have broken a few before, when trying to adjust them for customers.
So I took them to Haine and Smith, who, even when told we hadn't bought them from themselves, were very happy to adjust them for me. When I asked if I could pay, the very efficient, helpful and friendly Optometrist politely declined, saying it was free. Remarkably different from the attitude at Specsavers.
Well done Haine and Smith, and thanks again for your helpfulness, kindness, and professionalism.

Visited Haine & Smith Gorse Hill last week for an eye test, optician examined me very well, made me feel relaxed and confident in his ability. My prescription had changed so I needed to order some new glasses, the dispensing optician listened to what I wanted and help me choose some very nice frames without trying to over sell me anything I neither wanted or needed, overall a very good experience and I will definitely be going back to Haine & Smith for my future needs.

The Best Opticians of My Old Life!
I am not sure I have ever felt so looked after as I did last Wednesday, 31 January 2024, at Haines & Smith in Melksham, Wiltshire. As soon as I walked in with my wife the fantastic Jenny and Sophia were there to look after us in a clean, bright atmosphere and made us feel nothing was too much trouble. I saw the optician, Pardeep, without delay and she is simply the best; she listened carefully to the problems that have developed with my eyes over the last few months and then carried out many tests to discover the reasons, which resulted in a referral to a cornea specialist. As I have Diabetes 2 she even put some drops in my eyes, sent me home for an hour and then immediately saw me again to look into the backs of my eyes to ensure nothing was missed. I challenge anyone to find a better opticians in the Country, I am nearly 64 and have had eye issues since I was about 9 so have seen many opticians down the years and this was my best experience. Thank you everyone.
