Absolutely the best marine supply…
Absolutely the best marine supply company. I've been a boat owner and licensed captain for 45 years. Defender consistently has lower prices than West Marine and others with a much wider variety of quality equipment and supplies. Very little cheap Chinese hardware junk; many harder to find sailboat and engine parts....at times they will have a rigging part that the specialty houses won't carry. They do not have as large an assortment of the super high end electronic gizmos that West Marine and others may carry, but most of that stuff is for rich guys with unlimited budgets and vessels with waterlines longer than their I.Q.'s. The pros and knowledgeable amateurs use Defender. Delivery is fast, though at times I wish it were free. Recommend as first choice.

Have been dealing with them for years. Prompt friendly services for marine products. I like them.
This is an old company that is owned by the heirs of the original founder. Appears there is nobody minding the store. Their prices are now less competitive, and their product line misses the mark on innovation. Their website is not the best and their paper catalog is definitely old school, which probably irritates the younger crowd. Looks like the whole outfit needs a bit of freshening up, if they want to stay in business.

Tried to order by Internet on their website No succes.Reply that there was a small mistake and they try to change it. No response. Tried again several times . Same message. Sent Email to client services. Email that they would contact me and every contact was by a real person. Waited. 19 hours later. Contacted Defender. Emailed several times and sent screenprint of website orderform. Received analog orderform but unable to print and scan, as we are on a yacht. Emailed again that all the info was on the screenprint of the webform. Received Email offer, Received orderconfirmation. But after 4 days we received an email or we still wanted to order???? Phone call It appears that there was no order . Did not receive Email they say they sent. But what about order confirmation ???? Again several emails and phonecalls to order. Emailed several times and sent screenprint of website order form.
Answered additional questions about freightforwarder and final adress in Panama. ( i was lucky, 3 dollars cheaper shipping on almost $500 order ) After receiving the trackingcode it appeared they changed (added info) to the shipping adress.
Defender.com has to learn a lot about E-business. Advice:Buy elsewhere as this is too much effort and not good for your heart.
