We bought our barrel in July, installed it, waited for the rains to come - and now, the barrel leaks from the bottom, and has been leaking for over a month. William, from Celtic Timber told me that the barrels are '20 - 30 years old and a small trickle is to be expected'!
What utter nonsense. Nowhere in their material does it say that a 'trickle' is to be expected. The whole purpose of water salvage is to save water! We have oak water butts in the past that have performed beautifully.

This is not one of them.

At the end of the day, we spent 200.00 and got a faulty barrel that the company won't stand behind. Would I recommend them? Not remotely.

Shortly after I wrote this review, I was contacted by Jon Howcroft, the Marketing Manager for Celtic Timber. He had read the review and the email exchange between William and me, and, as it turns out, was as flummoxed and disappointed as I was, by William's response and handling of the complaint. Jon took the lead in making this problem as much Celtic Timber's as ours and has, as of today, had another barrel delivered at company expense.

Jon handled this situation with respect and concern for making the customer whole; entirely right, and entirely smart if one wants one's business to grow and thrive.

So - Kudos to Jon - Celtic Timber is fortunate to have him.

Very prompt service, excellent quality product and they were very responsive to my requests. Highly recommended.

Honestly could not be happier with my beam purchase! The quality is amazing and it was really simple to place on the wall. It completely changes the atmosphere in the room - I can’t wait to have the fire on over the winter with my beautiful beam above it!

The Waveney edge solid oak shelves are fantastic and exactly what we wanted. However, our experience of drilling the shelves has not been without a good many headaches and worry. From seeking support from qualified and experienced trades people to buying an expensive drill bit and finally fitting has been a lot more involved and expensive than we thought.

From start to finish the help, guidance and attention to detail was exceptional. Unsure of what kind of barrell would be best for me personally when using as an ice bath, Jon in particular was a breath of fresh air.

I ended up purchasing a 55 gallon hogshead whiskey barrel with being 6ft tall and it was perfect for me.

I also brought 2 character stencilled coasters (Mario and Princess Belle) and they certainly weren't disappointed. They loved them.

Finally what the compay do in general and what they stand for is admiral, especially the option to rewild or plant a tree when spending over £100. Classy touch.

Keep up the great work everyone, all the best in the future and thanks again.

We have just received the half barrel that we ordered 2 days ago. We are very pleased with it. Excellent service from start to finish. Product is as stated on the website. Excellent quality. We will be ordering another in the next few weeks. We would recommend them to anyone.

Shelves are not pre-drilled so you have to drill the holes for the brackets yourself. This is an issue as they have to be perfectly level and vertical to ensure the shelf will slide on to the brackets. I’m confident enough with a drill but this requires a pillar drill and a long bit as the hole is 120mm deep. It would be far easier if this was done in the workshop when they’re cut even if it adds a bit to the price. It also arrived un-oiled.

Both of these things are stated on the website but it’s not that clear as I missed it.

I called twice to ask questions and both times the person I spoke to was unnecessarily curt and borderline rude.

Won’t deal again.

We ordered a beam for our fireplace in the lounge. The beam arrived quickley and was in excellent condition. Easy to fit and good customer service. We are now ordering our second beam for another fireplace. Thank you Celtic Timber!

A big thank you to the team at Celtic Timber. Ordered a number of sleepers this week. They arrived yesterday. Very impressed with the quality of the product and the friendliness of very helpful driver. Will be back soon with another order.

I purchased an oak beam which was used to make a fireplace for one of my clients. Just as the year's guarantee ran out the wood all began to split and warp causing damage to the surrounding plasterboard. I contacted Celtic Timber only to be told that it was outwith the guarantee. I pointed out that oak should last more than one year only to be told that warping and splitting should be expected. I tried to contact the manager but no-one would give out his contact details. My elderly client is now left with a fireplace that is falling apart and damaged plasterboard. The goods supplied were not fit for their purpose no matter what Celtic Timber's T & Cs are!! Would I recommend them to anyone else ....never and neither would my client who has now to find the money to replace the fireplace, plasterboard and for redecoration.
In response to your reply I did not threaten legal action. If you read my email it said that unofficially I believed my client was talking about taking legal action. Not once did I say I was taking legal action. As for giving me the opportunity to buy another why would I buy something which you could not guarantee the same would not happen again? Would you? With regards to a full refund yes I would have expected Celtic Timber to practice good business ethics and do the right thing.

Bought fixings for oak mantle. Delivered in 2 days .fantastic service will definitely be using again 10/10.

Ordered a 3/4 wine barrel for planting up a tree and a couple of the baskets for storage; they looked good and interesting. I had a number of questions about the products and the company were really helpful and quick to respond. the barrel arrived the next day and looks great, it's heavy and will be perfect for our needs. there was a slight delay in receiving the baskets, but again the company responded quickly to my query and true to their word, the baskets arrived the next day...and they are better (bigger0 and lovely 'grey' colour with strong rope handles. Very happy and will definitely buy from Celtic Timber again.

I recently became a customer of Celtic Timber and was highly satisfied with the level of service and quality of product. Will definitely be the first choice for future oak purchases.

This is the second lot of Sleepers we've had delivered from this Business and if we need any more , we'll definitely be going

Celtic Timber contacted me for a review, which I provided. The review was published on their website only to disappear from it within hours! Therefore I feel obliged to post it on Trustpilot instead. It was a bad experience, I am afraid. The delivery was prompt but with no advance notification. It was a one person delivery, which is inappropriate for such a weighty item, and the driver struggled to handle the half-barrel (about 50kg) on his own and needed help from us. Despite being pinned, the metal band at the top of the barrel fell off the minute the barrel was offloaded from the van, so we had to re-pin it ourselves later. I also paid Celtic Timber for the drainage holed to be put in - that had not been done. After a few phone calls, I was given a refund for the holes (£3) and the option of Celtic Timber collecting the barrel, with a potential full refund. I did not have the tools to make the holes but the option of returning the barrel still seemed wrong and not environmentally friendly (collecting the planter from Hampshire to bring it back to Wales only because the holes were not in place!). I also would have hated to see the poor driver handle such a heavy load again! In the end, I had to pay somebody local to come out to make the holes – Celtic Timber were not prepared to reimburse me that, still preferring to collect the barrel and leave a large carbon footprint behind! Overall, I am not unhappy with the barrel but it is the customer service I am very dissatisfied with. And no, I would not recommend the company.

We ordered a 55 gallon oak water butt barrel with accessories on Monday. We were pleasantly surprised to receive notification it was being delivered on the Thursday.
Beautiful quality barrel with accessories and a fabulous aroma of red wine.
We are so pleased with our barrel and would happily recommend this company and its barrels. Great customer service too.

Perfect 50 litre chestnut barrel and 18 inch engraved Oak chopping board, better than expectations, look fantastic. No issues at all. Delivery as expected. First time customer with Celtic timber but would definitely recommend.
