Probably the best cashback card in…
Probably the best cashback card in terms of reward.
Only snag is that you need the physical card every time you shop because they don't offer the 'Add to Wallet' option and I (and most people I know) rarely carry around cards these days, so it gets massively underused.

Looking at the account we can see some failed transactions due to the merchant ID numbers not being recognised. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and very sorry for the issues you have had.
Every store does have a unique number referred to as the Merchant ID. Unfortunately, if we do not have this number provided to us by the retailer, our bYond card will not work as the retailer will come up on the system as unrecognised.
We will always do our best to make sure our systems are up to date, however it is the responsibility of the retailer to let us know their ID numbers.
If we do locate a retailer/store who we partner with where we are missing ID numbers, we do then speak directly with our partner to add these to our records. Very sorry for the inconvenience.

The app sometimes didn’t work(won’t log…
The app sometimes didn’t work(won’t log me in). Seems I have to log in to your website first, before I can use the app. Also I don’t seem to be able to add the card to my apple wallet.

Thank you for your reply. The reason I gave it a 3 star is that sometimes I could not use the card in supported stores (declined). At the time (away from home), I tried to open the app on my phone to check my balance. However, it always denied my logging in. I found out that when I got home and logged into your website on my computer, I than could log into my app. Once I could log into my app, I could use my card in stores.
So these days, if I intend to use the card, I will always make sure I can log into the app first at home (sometimes I will need to log into the website first), before go to shopping. Not an easy experience, and prevented me from using the card often.

It’s really annoying that the card…
It’s really annoying that the card can’t be added to my digital wallet. I recently lost my card due to my purse being stolen and had to pay £7 for a new card which I thought was expensive. If the card was able to be used on Apple Pay i wouldn’t have needed to carry the card!

No support for Apple Pay :(
My main problem with the bYond Card is that it cannot be used with Apple Pay. It's just inconvenient to have to carry a plastic card, it's 2026 really no excuse :)

I am very happy with Byond
I am very happy with Byond. The app is easy to use, the offers are clear and the cashback system works well. The customer service has also been helpful whenever I have needed support. One neutral point is that cashback processing can take a little while, although you can track everything from the app without any issues. Overall, it is a very good experience and I am satisfied with the service they provide.

I have to check which retailer is…
I have to check which retailer is available, so I stand at the counter using the app. money cannot be transferred back to my normal bank account easily. Top Cash Back is much more straight forward, for the 1 or 2 percent difference, I'd rather use top cash back.

Card acceptance is temperamental
Card acceptance is temperamental - the app is riddled with bugs and crashes all the time - some retailers accept online then with no notice you no longer can (currys for example)

Good idea/savings but faff and quite a…
Good idea/savings but faff and quite a few technical issues get in the way.
I’ve been a bYond user for a few years, and I have used it to save significant sums of money in that time.
However, the faff of needing to reload the card (with a minimum £25 spend) then being unable to transfer card balance back to your bank means that it is quite a lot of hoops to jump through for those savings.
Combine this with a sluggish app that often gets stuck at the login page and it is a place where I wish the experience could be better.
I’d love the ability to automatically just debit my bank account with any bYond spends rather than topping up / automatically refunding balance to my bank per month.

The card is usable
The card is usable, and that’s the most charitable thing I can say. The app and the website are incredibly bad and frustrating, sorting simply doesn’t work, any card usage statistics are not viewable.

On the retailer list it states Cafe…
On the retailer list it states Cafe Nero now being a regular of thos brand on the High Street and shopping centres my card has never worked. Always a balance of more that my spend but not once has a payment gone through. BYond please let me know why you list Cafe Nero but the retailer machine doesn't recognise the card

Rubbish
Topped the card up, tried to use it several times. Doesn't work. Either on chip and pin or contact less. Also cannot use it for online purchases. Absolutely baffled.
This was topped up before use with £40, didn't work. Then another £40. Still didn't work. I now have a card with £80 that does not work

We have had a look at the transaction history on your account and unfortunately at time of spend there was not enough funds on the card to cover the sum of the bill. We can see that this was topped up, however it was after the attempted transaction took place.

Not worth the hassle
Overall poor experience. I’ve had the card a couple of years and the cons outweigh the pros:
- Money can’t be taken off the card, you have to spend the cashback you earn at set retailers
- Naturally you top up as and when you need because you can’t take money off, but the app is so so bad, crashes continually sometimes making it impossible to check a retailer (but occasionally allows you to top up). If you’re out shopping and want to check a retailer quickly, good luck.
- Poor cashback amounts which beware they don’t always pay!! I spent over £2000 at last minute.com, they took the payment as last minute.com is one of their retailers but *didn’t pay the £100 cashback* because I didn’t use the correct link (which presumably I should’ve found in the t&c’s on the app that crashes every 10 seconds). I only found this out after chasing them repeatedly. Note they won’t accept a transaction if a retailer isn’t on their list, but they accepted this and didn’t pay the cashback.
- Not available on Apple Pay so always have to remember to carry the card on you (and remember the retailers) which feels silly in this day and age.
- Retailer list looks impressive at first but genuinely only a handful of common stores on there which often have better cashback offers on debit cards
Overall it’s useful for big purchases (if they actually pay you the cashback) otherwise I wouldn’t recommend.. the £1-5 earned here and there isn’t worth the hassle and inconvenience of the card/company.

Unfortunately, to receive cash back when spending on the card, you need to use the correct links and/or our partner retailers. This is due to meeting the terms and conditions of not only bYond Card, but the partners themselves. If done incorrectly, we are not in the position be able to simply add cash back to your card.
Our App is constantly being updated but we do apologise if you have had any inconsistency when using it. All information can also be found via an our website/online login, which can be accessed by the usual browser on any computer devise. We like to make sure that all information and T's & C's are always crystal clear and visible at all times.
We always in communication with our partnered retailers to make sure we offer the best rebate percentage possible and are constantly adding new partners to the scheme. All current and new partners (plus their specific information) can be found our website and your login.
We do not have digital wallet functionality at the moment, however we will certainly pass along your feedback to the team as an area of opportunity.
