Ex banker loves Athena
Ok firstly I worked in banking and specifically lending for 16 years with a regional bank up until 2019. I understand the lending process. Athena have blown me away. We recently set-up and investment loan with a 30 day settlement something that would have made me shudder when I was lending. Athena were so onto everything and we were ready to settle with 2 weeks to spare. Going back to the very start of the process which was months earlier speaking with Bec via text the whole process was so seemless and easy. Of course Athena's rates and no fees are a drawcard but you would think the service wouldn't be there but this was totally the opposite. Great speedy service with great rates and no fees is the way all banks should be but sadly they are not. If your considering changing banks I would highly recommend you consider changing to Athena.

Refinanced when no one else would consider
Process was quick and easy with the help of my mortgage broker. Athena have the process streamlined and their servicability criteria is apparently more friendly towards single-income home owners than other mortage providers. The whole process was approved and settled in under 2 weeks!

No access to my account, no visibility
I have just settled and I cannot get online access to the account. A user login should have been set up earlier than this. I currently cannot get access despite following the instructions to use my email address followed by “Forgotten my password” for first time users. As a first home buyer, I am already stressed and this has concerned me far more than it should. Not good enough.

Love Us, Leave Us (and would 'Love Us' again)
The whole experience applying for the loan from start to finish was stress free, with speedy approval time. The Athena Team worked closely with my mortgage broker and I was kept informed along the way. Love the no fees, the transparency, and no complicated jargon. Looking forward to the support on how to 'Love Us, and Leave Us' (but I would be back)

Too rigid Offset, not worth it
This is the second review first was a three star review, I have been with Athena for over 2 years. Offset account is too rigid and restrictive, could not have the entire loan amount offset and have any extra amount above the loan amount. A payment was made on 2/8/2024 which turned out be an "overpayment" according to Athena, this amount was to then be transferred to my linked account. It's 7/8/2024 this "overpayment" is yet to hit the linked account. Apparently linked account payments are supposed to be instant. Promised features are slow to come through cannot Bpay still from offset. Can only transfer $5000 to a non linked bank account even if transfers have been made to that account in the past.
If I had known all this prior I would have gone with another provider with a more flexible offset. I have tried to look at the website to see if the payment limits, overpayment etc are noted these do not seem to be mentioned. On top of this I cannot transfer more than the minimum monthly payment from the offset account into the loan, have discussed this Athena. If you are after a flexible Offset account go elsewhere there are other products in the market that have competitive rates and minimal fees.

We’re really disappointed to hear that you feel your experience hasn’t improved and want to address the points you have raised. Thanks so much for taking time to provide feedback.
We’re all about helping our customers pay down their home loans faster. When you’re super close to paying off your loan, we send you an email to give you a heads up that your account will close when the balance is $0. As your Athena account is a loan account and not a savings one, your account balance cannot go into credit. This means the amount you’re paying into the loan must not exceed the loan balance. If you wish to keep it open, we require you to maintain a minimum balance.
As mentioned in our reply to your last review, we do maintain a $5,000 transfer limit to non-linked accounts for cyber security reasons. If you do need to transfer an amount larger than $20,000 to your linked account, please get in touch and we can work this through with you.
We’ve recently launched a bunch of new features including multi-offsets, split loans and cross-collateralisation and we will be delivering payment features including BPay over time. Appreciate this one is important to you.
We’re constantly working to improve our home loan experience and will be reviewing our website to see how we can provide more info on our payment features.
We would love to get in touch directly and check that the overpayment has landed into your linked account. As it had to be manually processed by our team (it’s not an instant payment), it would follow bank standard processing times.
