I moved into my Southern Housing flat in July of this year. Upon moving in, I discovered that the heating and safety checks had not been completed, leaving me without hot water or lights. It took about a week for these issues to be resolved.
Shortly after, I was informed that an electrical safety check had been booked, but no one showed up. When I called to follow up, I was told there was no record of the booking and they were unsure which third-party company had been assigned. I was assured that they would look into it and call me back, but I am still waiting.
During this time, I was in contact with my housing officer, Adnan, who promised to escalate the matter to the appropriate team. However, I have not heard from him, and despite multiple attempts, he did not return my calls. I filed a complaint and requested that his manager contact me. Two weeks later, I was told that the manager had left a note on the system saying he had called but was unable to leave a voicemail (strange as I have the voicemail functionality). That was nearly a month ago, and I have yet to receive a follow-up call.
Adding to the frustration, my rent account was not opened for almost two months, preventing me from making any rent payments during that time.
Today, when I turned on the storage heater for the first time, it malfunctioned—cutting off all the electricity and emitting smoke. I called the emergency line and was told it could take up to six hours for an electrician to arrive.
I am writing this in the dark, extremely frustrated by the incompetence of Southern Housing. This is, without a doubt, the worst service I have ever received. Their complete disregard for tenant safety, the utter lack of communication, and the repeated failure to address even the most basic issues is beyond unacceptable. It’s shocking that an organisation responsible for people's homes can be so careless, disorganised, and negligent. This level of service is a disgrace!
