Disposal of model trucks

The process of downsizing my model truck collection was dealt with professionally and efficiently throughout. Whilst I was hoping for a higher valuation I accepted their offer and was promptly paid. Based on this experience I would use their services again should the need arise.

I have been using Warwick and Warwick…

I have been using Warwick and Warwick for 15 years both for buying and selling toys. My sold items always achieve a great price and the items I buy are always waiting when I arrive to pick them up. The staff are really helpful, friendly and provide an excellent service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Huge collection of cigarette cards…

I posted a huge collection of cigarette cards to them in February and asked for them to be sold in their May auction. No response until May, then told I'd missed May auction deadline. Eventually offered as one lot in July with low estimate. Not convinced that everything I sent was included, so my brother-in-law asked a question that would confirm if I was correct. Never received a reply. The lot has just sold well below its estimate. Did they really offer everything I sent? This auction room is best avoided in my opinion.

We had one customer by the name of ‘Steven’ selling one lot of cigarette cards but his lot sold above the reserve that was set by him. We can only assume this wasn’t you and your collection was lodged under a different name? Without your full details, we are unable to identify you. Please email us (info@warwickandwarwick.com) with your full name, address and reference number so we can respond specifically to you.
We deal with collections to be valued and auctioned on a first come, first served basis out of fairness. We work to tight deadlines to lot, describe, print our catalogues and advertise to maximise sale potential. Once a valuation has been completed and the signed agreement has been returned to us, we will always include collections in the next available sale.
All estimates and reserves are agreed by the vendor in advance, and lots are never sold under the reserve specified by the vendor. We are always happy to speak to customers about any concerns prior to auction sale.

Warwick &Warwick a company setting the industry standard

I have used Warwick &Warwick twice now. The first time i sold my items to the company and the second time via auction so i have experienced both ways.

On both occasions the amount i recieved was more than i expected and after their deductions of 17.5%, which i found really reasonable compared to other companies, i recieved my payments promptly and in full.

I visited the company on two occasions and talked on the phone and via e-mail. On ever occasion the staff were really polite, helpful and infact couldnt do enough.

Their experts are incredibly knowledgeable and not only did they value the items but researched them and related the items to me.

The relating of imformation was prompt, brilliant and easily understood.

I cannot praise the company enough and would whole heartedly refer them to anyone, infact a member of my family is using them as we speak.

My thanks to one and all from the initial phone call with the frontline all the way to director level.

Sellers Beware!

All the other poor reviews about Warwick & Warwick are Spot on! I just wished that I had read the reviews first and not trusted their reputation!

I wasted 3 months of my time and the entire experience ended up affecting my mental health!

I entrusted W&W with £7,500 worth of my solid silver proof and uncirculated coins which we agreed from the onset that Warwick & Warwick would give me a current valuation of my extensive collection prior to me agreeing In placing my huge collection in their auction.

We never discussed estimates and I also never received any valuation for my items, instead they loaded my collection into 10 lots with values that were less than a 1/8th of the silver value onto Warwick & Warwick website!

Clearly from what I have seen they could not be bothered to actually do what they promised to do for me or are they just not interested in getting the right results for sellers!?

To me seeing W&Ws storage area they seem to be like Supermarket Chain, it’s all about volume, sell cheap but sell a lot and that’s how they make their money!

Is this how they do business!? Is this how they show their value to customers!?

I questioned their blatant laziness in not bothering to follow the protocol agreed or do the valuations that they promised they would do for me!

Without the valuations how could I decide if I wanted to place my extensive collection in their June Auction!?

I was told by W&W that they always place very low values“ for items placed in their auctions as to draw Interest! Yet they also give very low reserves in the items in their auction, all this without the owner been aware of and also no protection for the sellers!

Besides the low reserves they could also sell the items less 10% so if the buyers are not there my items would be given away for peanuts. Then give W&W a further 20+% in commission, so who really loses out!? I do!!!

This is the first time I have ever come across this sort of behaviour from an auction house!

In the one of the lots of silver proof coins with a silver value of over a £1,000 there was also one coin worth over £800 at Auction value on its own, not to forget the 5 other booklet full of other valuable coins there were banknotes in with the same lot with values in the £1,000s that were not even mentioned yet included with a an „Auction value of £200“ and a reserve set by them of £180! Make sense does it?

My question to them was what if W&W don’t have the buyers there on the day, and my coins are given away to „someone“ for a bargain of a lifetime and I lose out. YES!

Don’t be fooled, don’t get caught out!

The rudeness and way I was treated by the man that seems to be repeatedly mentioned in all reviews seems to me to be the same person!

All of this just makes it clear to me they work on volumes and just don’t have the item or the interest to actually value a person items and or maybe do not have the time or the skills to value the items, maybe they thought because I am in a wheelchair, disabled, Autistic that I am ignorant and stupid as well!

Well I am not I have an IQ of 145!

Since going to collect my items I had my banknotes valued, according to the man and Warwick & Warwick they were “common and they see a lot of them and are worth very little” i just had them valued in the £1,000s

The One small American silver Indian head coin at over £800 that was not even mentioned or said to have any value!

You make your mind up for yourself but please make sure you make the right choice where you take your items to be sold, I certainly will be in future!

Update: 8 June

Let me correct just one point, “senior valuer spent a considerable amount of time talking you through the auction process” I do not know who this person was or when this supposedly happened but if they are referring to the male who packed all my items into boxes which took the bulk of the time and then gave me documents to sign and promised to send me the valuations first, this took only a few seconds to do as I directed out of the building. Process?? What process? I am still in the dark as to what they actually did in nearly 3 months that W&W had my items, where are the valuations!? Do they actually know how to value items? Just a question?? As I have no valuation after my items spent nearly 3 months with Warwick & Warwick.

The Director of Warwick & Warwick who met me when I collected my items and called me this week begging me to take my reviews off these review platforms seems to have forgotten that she said she was taking my experiences seriously, apologised and would address them internally!

I am truly happy that I got my items out of their grubby hands before they sold and I lost a lot of money!

Allowing sellers to go through the same repeated issues again and again and not addressing the issues they have must be a red flag to all!

Insulting a persons Disability, Autism by highlighting the number of edits they make is shocking and disgraceful!

The below reply is in response to the 5th edit of your review.
We are sorry that you feel let down by the service we have provided you.
When you first attended our offices, our senior valuer spent a considerable amount of time talking you through the auction process, as he does for every potential vendor. You signed an auction consent form, setting a reserve at 90% of estimate.
We used our experience on how the same and similar coins have sold best in previous auctions to lot your collection to maximise its return for you. As we work on commission this is in or interest too.
You later asked to increase your reserves further which we were happy to accommodate. You further requested that we increase your estimates to vastly more than we had assessed and advertised. We take very seriously our duty of care to both our vendors and our buyers. Increasing estimates to several times the value of the lots would be misleading to potential buyers. This would be both unprofessional and unethical. Reluctantly, we made the decision to withdraw your lots.
Our online auctions attract a great deal of attention and we receive a large number of commission bids, telephone bids and live online bids during the sale. Realisations are published openly online and the results speak for themselves.
We are horrified at the accusation we treated you differently because you are a wheelchair user and autistic. We are a company who pride ourselves on embracing diversity and equality. To suggest we treated you differently is simply not true.
We have listened to your feedback and take on board your comments. Again we are very sorry that you do not feel happy with your experience.

Bad experience

I decided to drop off my late father's cigarette cards to Warwick and Warwick auction house in February 2023. I left 8 boxes, rated into different price ranges as I spent a year researching what was what. I was told to leave them and to sign a piece of paper as proof. I was told it would take 6 weeks for the valuation as staff were on holiday. After 7 weeks I had heard nothing so decided to make contact. This was the start of my bad experience. I was fobbed off with they hadn't even looked at it and would now rush it through. I left it a further week and made contact again, I was now told my valuation was posted out a couple of days ago and should be with me any day. I waited and waited but nothing so rang again. By the way when you ring you speak to someone who tells you they are not at their desk right now and they will pass on your message, this never happens. You have to chase up any calls yourself throughout the day, this goes for emails to. So I informed them my valuation had not arrived and was told it was probably lost in the post. They was going to send it out again so I waited like before until another week had passed, still no valuation. I'm now up to 10 weeks since I dropped off my collection. So I rang again, usual stuff, someone will ring you back but they don't, I tell them my story. Now they are going to send it via email instead of carrier pigeon. I was horrified when my valuation arrived via email. They valued the collection at a pitiful £1500. According to the Murrays catalogue it was valued at £30,000. When questioned, I was told its a dying market and they they do this for a living, meaning I didn't know what I was talking about, which on their part they are only assuming as they didn't know my knowledge on cigarette cards. It gets worse. I said to them they are way off with their valuation as I'd even took it to a dealer who had written books on cards and he had offered me £8000 and he wants to make a profit on them. Also when I said I am coming up to get them I was told they have been logged to go into auction, I said they can't do that as I hadn't given permission, I was told that's the paper I signed which wasn't true. I said I want them out of the auction ASAP as I hadn't given permission. I had 2 sets in the collection which was the jewles of the collection, both valued at about £6000 each and they never even included them in the lots which were going to auction which suggests they never even really looked at what i had. To attract buyers surely you would list the two most valuble sets in the auction. The whole experience has left me totally angry that a company like Warwick and Warwick would treat your valuables like this. I am now off to the London cigarette card company who know what they are doing.

Good afternoon,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
We would first of all like to issue our sincerest apologies for the communication issues. We deal with hundreds of emails and telephone calls from customers on a daily basis and unfortunately some messages do occasionally go astray. We can only apologise that this has happened in regards to you and have spoken to all members of staff on the importance of successful communication with our customers.
When it comes to cigarette card collections, it is unfortunately a declining market. Although many of the rarer sets do have individual value, the vast majority of sets by manufacturers such as Wills and John Players are worth only a modest value in today’s auction market. The Murrays catalogue value unfortunately has no bearing on what can actually be achieved at auction. We value collections based on what the same and similar material is currently selling for in our auctions so it is a realistic indication of what the collection will achieve at auction.
We provide free no obligation valuations to our customers. After receiving your valuation, you decided not to enter your collection into one of our specialist auctions and collected the cigarette cards from our office without issue.
We wish you luck in your future attempts to sell your collection.

Took in an inherited stamp collection…

Took in an inherited stamp collection to be valued. First impressions should of told me to walk away. The place was scruffy, dirty, messy and customer items of value where dumped in reception. Any one could rummage through stuff as they were all unsecure and open boxes of stamps where by the customer seating area. We did our own research to give us a guideline of value for our collection. We got told 4-8 weeks to value because of staff shortage which was OK then imi signed a form abd our collection got dumped in a tatty battered amazon box and put aside.i asked for the box to be sealed and was told it will be when the goods are boked in. We then Nievely left. Afew days later this was bothering me so I rang and was told our items are still unsecure and in reception. Not happy at this point so the valuator said he would secure the goods and put them safe. 4 1/2 weeks later I rang for progress update to be advised they are working on items brought in from mid December. Ours was taken in 12.1.23. He said he would que jump our collection and send out a valuation. That was only a few days ago. Today 11.2.23 I received a letter of valuation. DISGUSTED with what I saw. I tried ringing but no one answered. They value our collection at TEN POUNDS.
in the collection we have two mint unused penny black stamps along with many many more. We are NOT experts but Our research valuation was roughly £2500 so where TEN POUNDS came from who knows. I am collecting. I DO NOT BELIEVE MY COLLECTION WAS EVEN LOOKED AT. I believe they just wanted it gone and had no intention of valuing it.
NOT RECOMMENDED, NOT TRUSTED.
Thankfully i counted all the items in our collection and took photos of everything. I have a feeling there will be issues upon collection.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR VALUATIONS.
Should I encounter issues upon collection I will not hesitate in leaving another review.

Thank you for allowing us to comment. Our senior valuer with over 40 years’ experience valued your collection in its entirety. This process was video recorded and witnessed by another member of staff.
There were no Penny Blacks within the collection and the items were valued at £10. You may feel that you were in possession of a Penny Black but the stamp in your collection was a stamp produced in 1970 for an International Philatelic Exhibition in London which showed a picture of a Penny Black. The complete collection was then returned to you.
You have later provided an image of the one Penny Black you stated was within your collection. This was indeed an image of a Penny Black. We have found this exact image on eBay.
If you wish to pursue this further, we will have no hesitation in reporting the details to the necessary agencies.

Cant bid on gold ?

Was denied entry to the recent coin auction and id guess i wasnt the only one. The prices achieved were well below market value. Refused to accept my driving licence and utility bill as proof of id as they were sent by email and not the original documents. If i was a seller at this auction i would have a lot of questions to ask about why my lots under achieved!! I was however only excluded from the gold lots and was allowed to bid on the rest of the auction. I wonder how all the other auction houses i bid for gold at on a regular basis manage to let me with no proof of id at all? Very poor experience and not fair for the buyer or the seller. Not to worry though someone got a bargain.

Please accept our apologies for not replying to you more speedily, the email notification from Trust Pilot was unfortunately not picked up by us.
All our many customers who buy investment gold coins in our auctions are required to provide ID in accordance with HM Revenue and Customs money laundering requirements. As per their requirements we must have original sight of the documents, so we do not accept emailed copies. We ask that customers send their original ID documents via Royal Mail Special Delivery, so it is tracked and insured, which is usually a few pounds to do. We then send the documents back the same way, at our expense, on the day we receive them, so our customers are not without their documents for longer than necessary.
It is in our, and our customers, best interests to have as many bidders registered for our auctions as possible, so we do not refuse a customer wanting to bid lightly. We must however trade according to the law.

July 1st 2020 stamp auction

I cannot speak too highly of the professionalism shown by Warwick and Warwick in disposing of my stamp collection on 1st July 2020.
From the original meeting at one of their roadshows in Stockport, through acceptance and valuation to the auction itself, I have been kept informed of progress, culminating in a realisation almost double my expectation.
Well done and thank you to all in the team

Bored and disinterested with valuations so wrong I still can’t believe it. A shocking experience,

As an executor I became responsible for model railway items all brand new in box. I rang this auction house as they purport to be experts in this field. The response I got was at best disinterested. Having explained there were 3 new engines and about 30 new trucks and with my experience I had an idea what these Bachmann products were worth. I was told that the tank engines would fetch about £9 and the tender engine about £12. If I cared to bring them in they’d look at them and possibly make me an offer in 4 to 6 weeks! Throughout the representative I talked to was utterly bored and disinterested. I queried what he sid but he was adamant.
For the record each of the tank engines fetched £68 and the tender engine £47 on eBay.
DON’T TRUST THIS AUCTION HOUSE. THE SERVICE THEY OFFER SEEMS TO BE WAY OFF THE MARK. VALUATIONS SHOULDNT BE THIS WRONG

Hello Stephen,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the level of service we provided you.
We have offered free, no obligation valuations to many thousands of customers during our 60 plus years in business. Whilst we do offer general advice over the telephone, it is very difficult to give an accurate valuation without physically inspecting the collection in question. We would never value or offer to buy a collection from a telephone description only, which is why we always suggest either bringing the collection to our offices, posting the collection to us or attending one of our regional advisory days. We often have hundreds of collections waiting to be valued, so to be fair to all our customers, we value them in the order that they arrive at our offices. It is taking approximately 3 to 4 weeks at the moment for valuations to be completed.
Estimates we suggest for our auction catalogues are naturally conservative in order to encourage bidding, so there is usually a difference between estimate and what the lot realises on the day of the auction. We publish all the realisations from our specialist auctions on our website, so it is easy to find what the same and similar items have previously sold for rather than what they have been estimated at.
Regarding the member of staff you spoke to, we can only apologise that you were disappointed with your conversation. We have spoken to all members of staff to highlight this to ensure that it does not happen again. Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention.
If you would like to discuss this matter further please feel free to contact senior valuer Joseph Cottriall joseph.cottriall@warwickandwarwick.com or call him on 01926 499 031.
