Knowledgable, professional and super-friendly

The valuers at Warwick & Warwick were bang on when they told us which of our submissions would make good money and, importantly, which ones had little more than sentimental value. Overall, we made more from the sale then we hoped, and everyone we spoke to along the way was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Unfailingly professional, but also really friendly. I'd definitely choose them again, and heartily recommend them to others.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I sent them over 1,000 stamps, including Victorian, old Vatican stamps and two old Stanley Gibbons catalogues in excellent condition. They told me that they would do a free valuation and either buy them or auction them for me. I received a letter after a few weeks saying that they valued the lot at £10, and wanted £20 to send them back to me. They sent me a form to sign to instruct them to auction them and give the money to charity.
I telephoned them and was told that the stamp market was not good at right now. They were a bit vague about the charity that the money would go to. I support a couple of charities and if I had known there was no market for stamps I would have donated them myself.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to explain further.
We have provided a free valuation at your request. Our monthly stamp auctions are well attended, and we advise clients what their collection is worth in today’s market. Regretfully, your collection is of modest value which is beyond our control.
To avoid return carriage costs we do offer to sell your collection, along with other similar items, and donate 100% of the proceeds to charity. You are of course welcome to pay return carriage costs or collect from our premises. We have recently donated to Samaritans, Claire House Children’s Hospice and British Heart Foundation, details of which can be found on the news page of our website.

We cannot find a record of a collection being lodged under your name for valuation with us, so are unsure of the specifics of what you are referring to. Please feel free to contact us on 01926 499 031 and one of our valuers would be happy to speak to you once we have more information.
We would always urge our customers to contact us in the first instance, as any concerns can often be addressed with a simple conversation.
In general terms, we base all our valuations on the prices we are currently achieving in our online auctions, so it is a realistic idea of what you are likely to sell a collection for on the open market.
Our valuations are free of charge and under no obligation to the customer. We provide one global figure for the entire collection at the valuation stage but would break the collection down into its most saleable form if the customer gives their consent to enter it into auction.
We do make offers to purchase collections outright in certain circumstances and would generally offer 60% of an auction estimate, with no commission to be deducted. Otherwise, an auction estimate is suggested for one of our specialist sales. It is in our interest to get as much money for your collection as possible as the more money you make, the more we make on commission, so we fail to understand your comment regarding a ‘ridiculous price’.

Warwick & Warwick requirements

Warwick & Warwick demand the original passport/driving license and proof or residence before allowing the bidding and purchase of gold coins. Sovereigns are still legal tender and can be purchased without risking identity theft if copies of those get into unscrupulous hands. What W&W are doing is not required under paragraph 7.3a of the HMRC regulations and in so doing, they are limiting the openness of the auction to potential higher bids.
They should seek legal advice on their current stance in this matter. Other auction houses do not require or insist on this.

Hello Mr Clarke,
We request identification documents from customers wanting to bid on investment gold lots in order to comply with HMRC rules. It is in our, and our customers, best interests to have as many bidders registered for our auctions as possible, so we do not refuse a customer wanting to bid lightly. We must however trade according to the law. Please be reassured that we also adhere to strict GDPR rules with all of our customers information.

Don't waste your time

Don't waste your time, Warwick & Warwick Auctions advertises as providing a free valuation service, but when my colleague enquired they were then informed that the service is not free at all. Misleading information on their website - (our experts can provide free valuations with no-obligation to sell. We offer this free service to all UK residents.) NOT THE CASE AT ALL.

Unfair Reviews

Having read through previous reviews I think some people vastly overestimate the price their items are worth. It is not worth overvaluing the items, and to be fair many lots achieve well more than the estimate they are listed at.
I have bought and sold through Warwick & Warwick for over 20 years and have found nothing but a professional, helpful group of people.
Postage of lots are sensibly priced and well packed and normally sent within seven days of payment.
My only gripe is that viewing should be permitted on the day as it used to be, prior to the auction. Attendance should be re-instated saving us the time to have to travel to view, then again having to collect, this is rather time consuming (But cost effecive depending on purchase size).
Overall, Happy with This Auction House.

Hello Mr Northeast,

Thank you so much for the lovely review, all the staff here really appreciate it.

All our team aim to provide as good a service as possible and it is heartening to hear from our longstanding customers who have had such a great experience with us.

Unfortunately, because we hold our auctions on our premises from 10.00am we would be unable to facilitate viewing at the same time as the auction itself.

It can be challenging when customers believe their collections are worth more than they are. We are always honest when giving valuations as is it is no ones best interest to suggest an unachievable price.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Waste of time and money

I spoke to Warwick & Warwick by phone about a collection of c2500 stamps which dated from the 1840's to the 1960's.
They said that they would only look at them if they felt they were worth more than £250 and asked me to send photos of a selection of the stamps.
I did this a they said the collection was worth reviewing so I took the collection to their offices.
5 weeks later I received a ludicrous valuation of £30 - about 1p per stamp - with an offer to sell them for charity to save me the cost of return postage.
I can't understand how the initial review could have been so radically wrong perhaps you can draw your own conclusions.
Don't waste your time with this company if you need anything valued

Dear Robert,

Our free valuation service is very popular, so it is difficult to locate your record without further information.

We do not have a threshold of £250 so we would not have given this advice.

As stamps cannot be valued accurately online, we do ask to see them in person if you are looking to take advantage of our free, no obligation, valuation service.

We are sorry your collection was not worth more and that you have been left feeling disappointed.

A very unpleasant experience

I used to buy from them since 2009 with no problems, in their last auction of the 3rd April 2024 they rejected my registration to bid, so I sent them many messages and emailed them, without getting any response, I thought there might be a technical problem in communicating with them so I registered under my name but with a new email, and in the live auction they blocked me from bidding, so I called them to know what the problem is, a lady said a few words about rejecting me from bidding then hang up the phone, I called again and she hang up the phone again, I was really upset so I sent a couple of emails to personnel’s in their auction whom I used to contact them directly before when I was a (Good buyer) and again no response.
I've been buying from a very well known auctions from all over the world for decades and never had this kind of disrespect before, they never bothered themselves even to inform me what the problem is or to sort things out if there were any after all these years of dealing with them, a very unpleasant experience, a very unprofessional customer service I've ever had.
(Updated after your reply).
I have never ever received any reply from your side either by email or a message since the initial decline of my registration, and never been verbally abusive in my phone call, the phone calls were after rejecting me to bid live online, I was just asking politely why, It's a shame that you call me out on something I didn't do just to defend yourselves.

Really unhappy with a service provided…

Really unhappy with a service provided by Warwick and Warwick extremely bad communicational skills. They have had the items for over six months told me and my sister that the items were going to be in the 24th of January auction didn't hear anything back from them so after 20 days I called them and ask what has happened with the sale to find out that they had made mistake and the items are now going to be in the 20th of March auction the items have now sold been waiting for payment since then had to call them again today to find out when the payment was going to be.then told me that it's 30 days after the auction what doesn't make much sense because the person who's buying the items only has seven days to pay so that means that they've had the money for 23 days before they issue it. Just been one thing after another with them one massive headache and disappointment

Thank you for allowing us to respond.

The collection was brought into our offices for valuation on 3 November 2023. The valuation was completed and sent out to you on 8 December 2023, within our 4 to 6 week time frame. We received the auction consent form from yourselves, signed and dated 18 December 2023. Unfortunately, this was just after the cut-off date for entry into our 24 January 2023 auction. We work to strict deadlines in order to get catalogues printed and circulated to maximise the return on lots sold. Your lot was entered into our next available specialist toy auction held on 20th March 2024 and sold for over £100 more than the estimate.
We do clearly state on the paperwork provided that payment is made 30 days after the sale. Purchasers have 30 days to settle their accounts not 7 days.

Good first time experience

This was the first time that I’d sent things to auction and my experience was good. Warwick & Warwick provided clear information, answered my questions promptly and, at my request, made small adjustments to my auction lot entry. As a result of this and their professional network, my clockwork O gauge train set achieved a very good price at auction.

Dear Mr Pap,

We are sorry you are unhappy with the advice we gave you on 31st January regarding your coin collection. Subject to inspection, the estimate we sent in reply to your email enquiry is a representation of what we would expect your coins to achieve in one of our auctions.

You mentioned that you doubted you would be able to make back the money you had spent on purchasing the collection. Regretfully, this is sometimes the case as retailers often add a high premium for their services on top of the inherent value of the coin. It would be wrong of us to mislead you and suggest that your coins could sell for the value you have paid for them.

Our goal is to give you a realistic idea of what they will likely achieve if sold in a specialist auction. As there was such a discrepancy between your envisioned value and the likely resale value, we advised you not to go to the trouble of bringing the coin collection to us for physical inspection, as we would not be able to achieve the value that you were hoping for.

We fail to see how we are ‘a fraud’ as you say in your review, as we have simply offered free advice and never had any intention of selling your coins for you, as it would not have been in your best interest.

Absolute shocking company

Absolute shocking company. So wish I had read reviews before I sent my lot of Cigarette cards down to be valued. Apart from the time it took when they eventually came back with a valuation I was shocked. I had them previously valued at upwards of £2750 up here and they came back with £25 , wanting to put them in an auction with the money raised to go to their charity.

Absolute chancers....do not touch if you value your collection. They obviously can't be bothered going through the goods as they would have found a set worth £500+ , either that or the valuer does not know his job , or as I think just at it.

What made this experience worse was that I sent pictures as requested before I sent the box and was told they were definitely of interest.

We are sorry that you feel your collection is worth more than our valuation. We base all our valuations on the prices we are currently achieving in our online public auctions rather than following catalogue prices.

Our valuations are free of charge and if you feel you could achieve more from the sale of your collection privately you are under no obligation to sell through us, we would just ask for the postage cost to return it to you.

We regularly donate the proceeds of modest value collections to a variety of charities, details of which are published on our website.

We are currently supporting Claire House Children’s Hospice. Thanks to the kind donations from our customers, we have just donated the sum of £750.00 to this worthy cause. 100% of the proceeds are donated.

Not a happy bunny at all...........

Further update 2 Jan 24: revised MY rating back to 1 star which I THINK is warranted by the feeble attempt to supress my feedback by W&W. After initially agreeing to put stamps into auction (see 12 Dec update below), they retrospectively demanded that I remove my initial comments or they wouldn't proceed to auction. The stamps are now back with me (arranged at £8.50 EVRI as opposed to their £15 quote!) &, thankfully, this whole sorry episode is now behind me. I have ALL the correspondence & recordings, & not just the selective & retrospective one attached here by W&W. Needless to say, I won't be needing a bargepole any time soon! Be careful, it cost me just under £20 for this wasted experience (carriage to & fro)!

Original comments: Spoke on phone beforehand - told me than just one of my stamps was probably worth £150. Sent the album in. Offer (for ALL the stamps)? £80! Promised to send back the album but still waiting for an "estimate" (Parcelforce) to return.
12 Dc 23: REVISED to 3 star (from 1 star) * after some positive interface with W&W. My original comments/rating were based upon info from W&W to hand at the time, which DID NOT include telling me about the replica. After learning that I've subsequently agreed to let W&W auction the remainder of the collection at the estimated valuation. I'll review whether a further revision, up/down, is merited after the eventual auction.

Dear Mr Dawson,
We are sorry you are disappointed with your free valuation.
Unfortunately, your stamps are not worth as much as you had perhaps hoped as the ‘key’ stamp, the PUC £1, is in fact a replica and therefore holds no value. This can only be ascertained when inspecting the stamp first hand – the reason we do not provide formal valuations online. The remaining collection was valued with an auction estimate of £130.
It would have of course been in our interest too if the collection held a higher value as we work on a commission basis for auction sales.
At your request, we also offered to buy the items direct at current market value, with no commission to pay, for £80 – a fair price for the stamps contained within. You are of course under no obligation to sell your collection when you request a free valuation.
Whilst we are pleased to provide free valuations, we do make it clear on the receipt that you have signed that we expect customers to pay for return carriage or collect from our premises.
If you would like to discuss further please contact Simon Harry on 01926 499031.

Further response to your edited review.
Thank you for allowing us to explain. We did not attempt to ‘suppress’ your feedback as you have stated. Based on your comments, we were rather surprised that you then requested that we sell the collection for you. We are not comfortable agreeing to sell items on your behalf based on your review.

Avoid these people like the plague they pay peanuts for coins yes a silver crown booked at £200 they offer about£50 pounds then put it in their auction for a massive profit all they do is come up with excuses.they did this with my other coins rare ones about a third of the going price. I am annoyed it cost me petrol and postage to get the coins back. People can check the true value of their items . All profits minus our commission would have gone to you, not ourselves. We therefore fail to see how we would be making a ‘massive profit’ or where the £50 you mentioned in your review comes from.
We are sorry you have misunderstood and wish you the best of luck in selling your collection.

Mixed Bag - chat with W&W first!

My father in law passed away last year left me with his old boyhood cigarette card collection and a mix of old UK banknotes 71 of which were uncirculated. I recently searched the internet to see whether they were of any value. The cigarette cards were fetching a few pounds on eBay but the “mint” £1 notes were for sale at about £10 each on eBay and Amazon market place. I sent the cards and notes off to W&W for an “expert” valuation with a view to a private treaty sale.
My experience of this company is a bit mixed. Great that they offer this “no obligation” valuation service but the valuation of £100 was, on the face of it, not quite what I was expecting so I asked for the collection to be returned. I have received the parcel today almost by return; both cards and banknotes were all there. Communications could be improved considerably. I sent the collection by special delivery. Using the Post Office track and trace service I found out that the collection had been delivered, no one called or emailed me to let me know the parcel had arrived. I then get a letter with the valuation along with a card from the postman to say an unstamped letter required me to pay the postage. The letter had a commemorative stamp on it; the Post Office didn't recognise this stamp as valid, in the letter was a receipt for the collection from W&W. On balance, Overall I found it a bit disappointing dealing with W&W because I had high expectations and it may be worth, in the first instance, giving them a call to see if the collection is worth sending. I spent £40 sending the collection back and to. Had I known then what I know now, I probably wouldn't have bothered W&W.

Dear Mr Roberts,

Thank you for taking the time to review our free valuation service.

We base our valuations on the price items sell for in our monthly collectables auctions and we are sorry that you are disappointed by the valuation provided.

We do try to provide advice over the telephone, but we can really only provide an accurate valuation once we have inspected collections in person.

eBay and the like can be very misleading and figures shown on these platforms do not represent the sold prices achieved, rather what the seller wishes to achieve.

We are sorry the receipt did not reach you straight away and thank you for your understanding during our telephone call.

Very disappointed customer.

Several months ago I’ve sent them 3oz 22ct gold coin from my collection.
Some time later I’ve received the valuation which was approximately £700 below the scrap value of the coin. This was truly unbelievable so
I’ve phoned them and asked how is that possible…

Eventually we agreed to set the price about £600 above the scrap value. The coin didn’t sell and they again insisted on putting it up for sale for far less than the scrap value.
Eventually I’ve decided to get the coin back and I paid for the service.
After that nobody even bothered to inform me about shipping the coin or what the tracking number was.

If you think that's acceptable, good luck with your valuables.

We base all our estimates on the prices the same and similar items are being sold for in our auctions. All our auctions take place online via Easy Live Auctions to a worldwide audience and are marketed extensively in specialist collector magazines to achieve the best prices possible.

When we originally valued your coin, you felt the suggested estimate was too low so we came to a mutually agreeable compromise. Unfortunately, it was unsold, so you agreed to re-enter the coin with a slightly reduced estimate. The coin was again unsold, so you decided to have the coin back. Other than the return postage cost, we have provided our services free of charge.

We are sorry that your coin did not sell but there were no purchasers willing to pay the price you had in mind.
