I bought this at the beginning of summer to put round runner beans, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.
I have had no slug problems but more importantly it has helped the beds retain water very effectively.
I have just bought more to mulch hydrangeas and roses again to retain moisture.
I found it easy to use, goes a long way and smells and looks good. It suppresses weeds well. Very pleased.
The only difficulty I had was being careful not to breath in fine particles as it made me cough.

Deters slugs? If by "deter" they mean "encourage" then yes! Slugs seem to be actively drawn to it! It does what any mulch does if used correctly - slows weed growth and stops the soil drying out too quickly. But is does NOT deter slugs and snails so they should stop making that claim.

Applied strulch around healthy cucumbers and tomatoes plants. All plants started dying just over night. Tomatoes are gone, even if they recover, they will not produce much. Same with cucumbers. No guidance or warnings on the packaging provided. Going to the shop to complain.

Absolutely devastated.

Used this product on healthy plants, including cosmos and tomatoes, and where the product came into contact with the plants, the stems literally withered away.

When I contacted the company they said that there were hints and tips on their website on how to avoid this happening. Now call me naive but if there are serious issues when it comes to how close this product can get to plants, then there should be warnings on the packaging, not on line.

I would like to know how an ‘organic’ product can have such a devastating affect on plants, what’s in it?

Sorry but I would not recommend this product.

Kills young plants- beware

I bought 4 bags of strulch. Had a massive slug problem last year and were desperate to avoid it again. All our cucumbers have died. It scorches the young stems turning them black and shrivelled. Sunflowers all dead and our courgettes went all droopy and yellow. I have had to remove the strulch from the stems and they now seem to be rallying. Please get this product modified. It's killing plants

I have to agree with the other disappointed customers; it seemed to give the slugs pause for thought for literally one day and then it was business as usual as far as they are concerned, doesn't hinder them one bit even over extended dry periods (I put it on my veg patch in spring 2023). I have also wondered if the additive which is meant to make it a deterrent to slugs is the reason my veg seems to be struggling a lot this year; there's a lot of pale leaves and plants struggling to get past the tiny seedling stage.

Strulch may suppress weeds but from my experience so far it also suppresses small plants, for example young pansies and hostas, that were growing well and are now turning yellow
It does not seem to have made any difference to slug and snail suppression and other plants like dahlias are still being eaten and I have had to resort to other methods.
Disappointing and would certainly not risk it around vegetables.

I put Strulch on my herbaceous border and some of the foliage on the plants has gone yellow. Where some went on the grass that has gone brown. Very disappointed.

I bought the strulch for deterring the slugs and snails on my plants ( hostas in particular). It appeared to work initially when I first put it down in April. I have noticed now that the snails and slugs are now eating my hostas. Disappointed!! However it does look nice as a mulch in my pots and in the borders.

Purchased via Ideal World and....slugs and snails big and small are marching on it and munching on my plants. Smells nice, look nice but its no good for slugs and snails, bit disappointed tbh

I buy this for the beds that are on show and those I don't want to weed as looks lovely (smells nice too). I use it for my strawberries too so they are not resting directly on the soil and rot.

Yes, it suppresses annual weeds and conserves moisture but it appears to reduce yield of vegetables (at least with potatoes and leeks) by at least a third and perhaps by as much as a half. How does it do that? I think the soil bacterial and fungi that it stimulates are themselves taking up nutrients that the vegetable roots should be taking up. Does anyone know any proper scientific trials? So far, I haven't found any.

Flower growers and anyone simply wanting to reduce weeds may not mind if yield is reduced.

We've used Strulch for some years now and get it from the garden cent re. It looks and smells lovely and lasts 2 years before needing complete replacement. For the fraction more than other mulches it is worth it.
