MOT review
I appreciate this is an old review. On 20/8/25 I took my son's car for an MOT at Protyre-Leighton Buzzard. The car is a 19 reg and at the time, he was not racking up much mileage. I got a call from Protyre to say the MOT had registered the following advisories: Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Offside Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Offside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Nearside Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
I was told they could rectify this by fitting new discs and brake pads, but it would cost around £700. I was suspicious of this and declined the work. As my son's safety is paramount to me, I booked the AA mechanic to come and replace both the discs and brake pads. After their mechanic inspected the discs and brakes he said I do not know why these issues were reported in the MOT as all discs had around 20mm and the disc pods were all above 6mm. As such, he said I am not going to waste your money by replacing items that are fit for purpose. Also, I was not charged anything for the visit. I did contact Protyre at the time, who gave an excuse that the mechanic who did the MOT made a mistake (on all discs and pads!!!). Anyway, today the car went for its next MOT and I decided to use a new garage in Leighton Buzzard. Guess what, the car had a clean MOT with no advisories and I was told the brakes and discs were good for another year at least. I find it hard to believe a qualified mechanic would get the readings wrong on all discs and brakes. That said, I have lost trust in the garage and will continue to use the garage I went to today in the future.

It came back with damage - they denied it!
I did not expect to pick my car up from its MOT, get half way home and then notice the roof upholstery was damaged. I turned around and went back to ask what had happened (as it wasn't like that when I dropped it off) to be completely dismissed with the response 'it couldn't have been us as it would have had oil on it'. I now have another bill to pay for repairs. That was the last time I will use Protyre - such a shame as I had recommended them to my friend who just spent nearly a thousand pounds with them and will likely not go back too.

£90 overcharge plus very poor service.
Was quoted over the phone by Paul at Protyre Leighton Buzzard for two front tyres at £65 each ie £130 total.
On reflexion I should have gone to Perrys, Aylesbury at £78 per tyre. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Having had tyres fitted by Protyre, different guy tried to charge me £260. Claimed £130 quoted was per tyre. Outrageous! After some arm wrestling ended up paying £220 just to escape. Then I check the tyre pressures, They are over inflated by 5 lb. To add insult to injury the car tyre monitor is now permanently on, I now need to go to Perrys to fix it, ironic really!

The work was carried out efficiently & in good time . Booking on the phone was straightforward with no delay. The only comment I would make is that it would have been really helpful if I had been advised about the roadworks in the locality, As the satnav took me away from the required route , Despite the " Road closure " signage , Access was still possible !
