Check and read Car Warranty before you buy!
Went to buy car at Platinum car dealers Plymouth. Found the car we wanted took for test drive as offered. Carpets soaking wet car noise coming from back of car. Was told they would fix what needs doing and get it MOT’d.
Our car was losing water from coolant. Had it serviced at our local garage. They said they couldn’t find any water leaking out from car. So it could be head gasket. Big job.
While we were waiting for car to be Mot at Platinum Cars. We had a phone call from Platinum saying it had failed MOT and would take 2 or 3 days to fix.
We looked up MOT to find it was dangerouse and should not be driven. I started to get second thoughts about buying it. Our car was much nicer inside. Their car was tatty inside and yet it was 2 years younger than our car. Also it had key to open door and to start car. Our car had electric key and push button electrical start and was 2 years older. It was exactly the same car as ours. To look at.
I thought by law you could cancel a purchase within 14 days? We had only put a deposit down a very large deposit £4750 as asked. The car was £4995.
We text them to say we had changed our mind and did not want to buy the car. I had to go through the manager of warranty. Which I did and he said as in warranty we will keep £499 + VAT = approximately £600.
No one showed us any Warranty or told us about any Warranty before we put down deposit. In the Warranty it says it in the first paragraph they should have told us about the warranty. They didn’t!!
So they have kept approximately £600 of my money for what!! Getting one of there own cars MOT’d and roadworthy. If this is the law it needs to change. I get nothing except a £600 bill. I am going to fight this! But be aware.
Ask to read warranty before you give your money to anyone with regard to car dealers
They have not been fair, honest or up front with regard to this car deal.
Also, if you pay in house (meaning at the car dealers show room) you are not covered by 14 day return law to get all your money back.
This law needs to be changed to protect the consumer.
Normal sales tactics until you've taken the car away.
This review has taken a while because I wanted to be as thorough as possible.
Let's go back to August 2025: we bought a car from Platinum. Even after reading the bad reviews, we took a chance, but unfortunately, they are warranted.
The first car we looked at was not suitable for our needs, so we were offered another car that was not on site but was due in within a few days. Because we needed another vehicle as quickly as possible, we paid a deposit and waited for it to arrive. Once we had the car's licence plate number, I checked its status via the AA car checker and the MOT on the government's website. The MOT from July 25 listed advisories and a minor defect. I was told the advisories would be put right when it went to the body shop and garage for its MOT.
On the 12th August, the MOT failed due to major defects, and, strangely enough, almost all of the advisories had disappeared. Initially, I was impressed that they had managed to fix several problems on the car. The next day, another MOT was completed with a pass, and only the wing mirror damage was listed as an advisory. I called to check on the status and was told the car would be taken to the body shop for work, including repair of the wing mirror damage.
Finally, the big day came (29th August 25), and we picked up the car. The car looked good at first, but when we got home, we found a few issues. I called Platinum and asked about some of the issues, but I was told to contact after-sales. This is when the company starts to look dodgy: after-sales can only be contacted by email, and Platinum is not interested in any issues you have. After sending an email and getting nothing in return except the normal deflection, I suspect the after-sales team is the boss, which explains why you can only contact them by email.
We found that none of the MOT advisories had been done, and the MOT centre (Richmond Brake and Exhaust Centre, Plymouth), whom I contacted, had removed all the advisories from the last MOT. I also asked if they did a lot of business with Platinum, which the owner said they did. I did notify DVSA with all the information.
Personally, and overall, I have found Platinum Car Centre well deserving of the bad reviews.
To finish with an overview: Deposits are non-refundable. They are reluctant to let you test-drive a vehicle. If you do, please ensure you're insured, as they don't provide insurance. The vehicles were purchased at auction, so please check the vehicle details (GOV website, MOT, AA, etc.). Expect to pay well over the vehicle's value, which also affects your insurance's valuation. The warranty is a joke, and the after-sales service can only be contacted by email. Expect the vehicle's problems will not be fixed before buying, only empty promises, and don't trust the MOT test results. The main goal for Platinum is to buy cheap cars at auction and sell them well above valuation to make a quick profit with minimal liability and aftercare.

I write this review based on my own experiences with platinum car Centre.
I had been looking around for an approachable dealership and these looked the part.
Went back the following day to test drive a car I liked the look of and paid a deposit on the day after the brief test drive.
I was advised to pay for the car in advanced of collecting it which I paid the remaining balance on the car.
Since then some issues come up prior to signing over the vehicle in which I wasn’t happy about. I then withdrew my purchase after waiting 7 weeks and still no car. I have since been waiting on an agreed refund since 22/12/25. I had an email confirmation from them agreeing to refund the total paid.
We have been given promises on multiple occasions that it’s being processed and we are yet to receive any funds returned.
Avoid this dealership. Absolute scam.

Do not buy from this garage. Sold me a dodgy car im now stuck with, numerous repairs in first few weeks. Warranty doesnt exist! They hadnt paid the fee!! Found out when the warranty company emailed me to say they had no payment from them. Then they call u a liar in their response on reviews to discredit you like bullies. I waited a long time as to avoid doing this review, hoping they would be a good company in the end. I was wrong. Car still not fixed even after a diagnostic proving the damage was done prior to me buying. Avoid unless u want to waste ur money.

Pressurised sales techniques by refusing to take any of the deposit payment by debit card and additionally then changed their mind on the deposit amount and upping it when we called to pay it. Claimed it had service history which it transpired it didn’t. We then found major faults upon collection which they then had the vehicle twice to attempt to fix it within the 90 days. No paperwork was provided for the “repair” but they claimed it was “all fixed”. Told us not to bring the car back to them. They lied to the Financial Ombudsman saying we hadn’t brought it in to be fixed at all.
Once they have your deposit they couldn’t care less and it’s nigh on impossible to actually speak to them.
Platinum Car Centre we have all the calls and the emails, so if you’re unhappy with this review, take us on for defamation!

What an fantastic company I cannot rate these guys high enough right from the start customer service was outstanding and friendly nothing was too much trouble and everyone was honest and very helpful. Neil was amazing in getting me the best deal possible and went above and beyond to make sure it was right for me, even down to sharing his lunch with my dogs 😄. I would highly recommend anyone to come here without a second thought absolutely first class throughout thankyou very much appreciated 👏
I went to Platinum Select Plus at Box…
I went to Platinum Select Plus at Box both yesterday and today, looking for a replacement for my current car.
Colin was outstanding on both occasion's, and listened to everything I said that I liked/disliked in a car - and so after ascertaining what I would be using the car for, he shortlisted a number of cars for me to climb into/ test drive and also advised me which ones would work well for me and also which ones I might not get on so well with.
No pressure sales, he just had a genuine interest in finding me the perfect car and a desire to provide a first rate service. If only all used car salesmen were like him!
(As a bonus, my 2 dogs who dont like strangers, took to him straight away.. that’s always a good sign! )
Absolutely avoid at all costs
Absolutely avoid at all costs. Sold me a car that was not safe. And clearly had been in an accident. Refused to take it back and asked I gave them a chance to fix it. Which was the worst botched job I’d ever seen. Timing belt ready to snap. Damage to underneath. Tried to glue the wheel arch on. Rejected and returned The car over a week ago and they still haven’t returned the funds or cancelled the agreement with the finance company leaving me unable to get finance on another vehicle.

Trying to get hold of these guys is awfully stressful! Had my car nearly 3 months and still waiting for issues to be fixed. The garage are on at them constant and so am I. As soon as you drive off they don’t care anymore. Money in hand is all they want. Wish I had got a car somewhere else as all I have had is issue. Both the garages I’ve been sent to by then have said they are always having platinum cars in under warranty and they sell dodgy cars. Keep away from them as much as you can

My sister recently bought a car from these people, what a mistake it has been. Please be warned that these people are awful for after sale support. They are nothing but jokers and Conner’s. There is no sympathy or compassion from these people they just want to take your money and then forget about you! The lack of customer service is discoursing and you all need to be aware that these individuals and not professionals they give you the charm but sell you dodgy cars. We are currently in talks with the financial ombudsman, trading standards and watchdog. Please people be aware and please look around at other car garages. These people don’t deserve your custom take your money elsewhere where you will be respected, after sales care will be what you expect and the item you purchase will be sold lawfully and won’t cost you loads once you leave the forecourt of this garage!

After sales nightmare.
We had what can only be described as a nightmare with this company, test drove a family car seemed nice and we paid for it and to pop back to collect 4 days later, I had a call from the salesman saying a engine management light came on so it had to go to main dealership (got my doubts) roughly 3 weeks later it was supposedly done. Ten minutes after leaving with the car the same management light came on, phoned and was told to take it home and a local garage will sort it out, 5 days later they, platinum, collected car from my home and we heard nothing back for days. Communication is actually awful at this company, they blocked me and my daughter. Let’s not start on the after sales manager , no phone number email only and you get a reply 3-4 days later, absolutely disgusting customer services. 2 months of hassle going round in circles. Got a refund after going to trading standards for advice , it’s worth spending a little more and go with a more trustworthy company, and maybe they’ll have a direct phone number for the after sale manager.

If I could give 0, I would. My family purchased what should have been a great car. We needed one bigger to aid the grandchildren. Car was purchased for 5k. Had to be returned less than a week later. They still have the car. And wont tell us where it is, other than that's its in plymouth. Asked for a refund. And they have us going round in circles. Garage say it's nothing to do with them. Aftersales (which garage have stated we have to deal with) are no help at all. We have proof of purchase. Proof of fault. Proof of asking for a refund. No contact number given to contact after sales manager direct (apparently he is never there and doesn't have a phone). Silly company, this will be taken further. Under consumer rights act 2015. My family are legally entitled to a refund, but as it stands, it seems this company want to waste time so a refund is no longer possible. I know the company will try to discredit myself and or family. So be it, I have evidence of all, so do to so. Would be unlawful and defamation without proof. Avoid at absolute all costs. Theifs to say the least. Although, they do act nice and friendly, almost charming when you go to purchase. Happy to remove and or change if and when issues rectified.

Brought a bmw from here nearly a year ago. The car had a dent, mark on bumper & broken window regulator. They promised me the work would be done on the window, dent and bumper & I would get a courtesy car. Dent was fixed but they refused to do bumper told me to buy a “tester pot” and paint over it and no courtesy car given. Had to wait over 2 weeks to have the car as apparently they were waiting for a part from the “main dealer” for the window, since I’ve had the car, the window regulator went on the opposite side too, which cost me over £400 to fix , the garage I used, only use main dealer parts on bmw windows, I asked them to look at the window platinum fixed as it’s not done been done properly & wind comes in as your driving. They refused to touch it because it wasn’t a main dealer part as platinum had claimed, they were worried if they touched it, it would break completely and I would have to pay another £400, I mean I’m probably going to have to do this anyway as it’s like a ticking time bomb. There was a huge stone chip in windscreen when it was sold to me which then cracked & I had to claim off my insurance to get it fixed. 2 years in a row before I brought this car it failed an mot for having a hole in left front tyre which I have now replaced (over £100) I wished I had checked these things before buying but you don’t expect this from a car dealership, don’t know how it passed 3 mots when it failed on this, shows that this company get dodgy mots. My washer jets failed on the mot then passed but when I drove car away they were still broken so again dodgy mot. Flexipipe on exhaust had such a dodgy repair that it would of failed another mot so had to get it done by a garage of my choice and platinum paid for this only after going through my finance company to get that sorted though because at first they refused.
Honestly worst car dealership we have ever used! I wish I wasn’t in such a rush to buy a car and done checks and checked reviews on this company.
There was a social media post I recently saw too and there must of been hundreds of people who had issues with this company.
They are rude when you try to contact them (except they guy who actually sold me the car) and if you leave a review they like to reply with lies and sarcastic comments..which again isn’t very professional is it!
Please do your homework before purchasing from here!!
Update 05/03/25: the ticking time bomb window has now broken so nearly £800 just sorting out the windows one because of a bodge job that was supposed to have been done properly before I was given the car.

My whole experience was 100% positive..a test drive...a full vehicle appraisal afterwards..reassurance and confidence throughout..with no pressure to buy
Pending a new MOT needed I was assured that anything needed doing would be done..(replacing the timing belt.. water pump..and related pulley..with an oil change and filters..all of which would be included in the pre purchase agreement)
MOT areas were identified as requiring attention and were fully resolved
I cannot thank Jon and the team enough,,for exceptional service and their attention to detail
I can honestly say that I have been so very impressed..and will unresrevedly recommended the Platinum Trade Centre to anyone looking for trusted excellence in the motor trade
