On the early days of having a fish tank in place, PetCo was the easy go to store for any need. While the in person went well, the online journey was a total disaster. So, I was totally naive, and got excited with the Black Friday price for live fish, considering that I wanted to get some glofish, and also would be cool to get some female guppies and a two cardinal tetras to complete the balance of the groups I had back then. During the process I one specific set of glowfish, but changed my mind looking to buy a mixed group instead. So, I deleted the wrong set, kept the in I wanted, and 3 guppies and. 2 cardinal tetras. I remember checking the basket and everything was correct, so I executed the purchase right away. Once I was notified about the charges I realized that the cost of this purchase was extreme inflated considering that on tags promoting the black Friday they stated that there was free shipping while everything was half price, but they were charging me $35 bucks for the “2 days delivery” that is mandatory for live fish - something not clear on the page during Black Friday. But also, instead one set of glowfish, the second set that I had deleted and was not on my cart when I executed the purchase, somehow was included on the bill. It did not passed 5 minutes from the moment I closed the purchase, to the moment I was talking with someone on the customer support te over the phone, where I explained the situation and left interaction with a confirmation that I would be reimbursed for the extra payment, as she removed the extra set of fish from my purchase. Not even 24hours went by, and a box with both sets of glofish arrived in my, while the guppies and tetras would be shipped once they had any available. I called the customer service another time, and the lady on support apologized for the mistake, attesting she could see on the system that the item was removed on my previous interaction, for this reason, PetCo was giving me this new set for free. The set I bought at the end was more that I could handle on my tank, imagine having 5 fishes more than I planned? Now I had to figure out a way to donate the extra fish, as PetCo did not accept a return. But less than 24 hours all the glofish were adopted by a different family cause all they did was attack each other on the short stay on the tank. Remember that they charged me $35 for a 2 day shipping? The tetras and guppies only got shipped in December, only wrapped in news paper with a hand warmer bag to keep 5 small gentle fish traveling to New York City. All 4 arrived dead frozen - but I was relieved they did not had the third guppy, not believing that a major company like PetCo would be so unprofessional to execute this shipping. After a long talk with costumer support they convinced me that this was a mistake and the next delivery would be more cautious and protect the fishes from the weather, and I was stupid enough to believe them. A few weeks later, a batch of 5 frozen fishes arrived on my home, leaving heartbroken. 9 frozen fishes were killed by PetCo on this process - something that the team offering support do not even pretend they cared about it at this point they send 6 dollars as a return over this purchase, as they disregarded the pictures I sent showing the dead fish, while the glofish set that was removed from the cart already, and was a gift from PetCo, was still charged. And even though almost a month had passed since I executed this purchase, they had the balls to sustain the charges of 2 day shipping. So, at the end, an purchase of $80,00, became more than $145 dollars, for nothing, as not even the fish that arrived was kept at the end. Just by February they confirmed that this would be the outcome for my case, what just made my case handling a serious case of depression - as the fish tank is part of my treatment, and bring piece but not if you’re a PetCo costumer.

The dumbest thing is buying online for pick up and when you get to the store, you have to stand in line, behind everyone that is already there. What's the point of buying online then? Same amount of time, if I would have just gone in and pick up the bag myself and stood inline to pay. Stupid process!

I paid for delivery within 2 hours. Instead they did not deliver the items (it's a full 24 hours later now) and are not responding to my emails.
Grooming not worth at all
Grooming was not good at all. Nails were not trimmed

Bad service. No cancelation self service. Time zones are different but I had to wait hours to chat with someone. Don't subscribe to anything.
The self wash doggie bath
The self wash doggie bath was dirty . Towels were tiny floor was wet and dangerous and all grooming equipment was not sanitized. Water was almost cold with no adjust nozzle and dryer was harsh and cold even on low . I need to find a better experience
ANIMAL ABUSE.....DO NOT SHOP AT PETCO!
...PETCO is well known for abusing animals just the same as Petsmart selling animals for profit that are abused by employees and store managers.
Petco also uses Marshall pet products ....a supplier that breeds beagles for animal torture research facilities!
So, please do not shop at Petco!
Thrown Out on Arrival for Vet Care
Intent of this post is a warning to other customers who might seek medical treatment at PETCO.
Apparently, PETCO is having issues with customers making appointments and not keeping them. The industry solution is to keep a payment method on file and charge a fee for missed appointments. That isn't what PETCO did. Because some other customer didn't attend their appointment, they canceled our appointment when we showed up on time. Reason? We hadn't confirmed our confirmed appointment. So they threw me out, my one year old out, my three year old out, and our dog just for giggles. His medical treatment was disrupted.
The stipulated reason was also a bald faced lie. Ostensibly, they left us a voice mail saying that unless we confirmed the appointment, they would cancel it. We use a transcription service, and I literally handed them a copy of the transcription stipulating no such thing. It was a standard reminder. I assumed that this was a one off from a rogue hooligan that PETCO would want to restrain. I was wrong.
When I reported this incident, nothing happened. We got some initial reassurances that they would look into it. Nothing. I had to report the incident three more times to get anything at all. We then started getting calls from spam numbers that left incomprehensible voicemails. We had to report this behavior as well, and elevated the issue through consumer reporting agencies like the Better Business Bureau as well as leaving reviews. Eventually, we got an area 'operations manager' who finally left a single voicemail saying they would close the 'ticket' if I didn't call them? Of course, she never answered the phone when called. Nor did she schedule a time to call or communicate by any other method, and she made it clear that we were simply being strung along, hoping we would just grow tired of it.
We gave PETCO a deadline to ... do anything ... three weeks after the incident, or we would dispute the payment (because we now have to restart the entire treatment somewhere else). We also sent them reviews and complaints of other customers reporting the same treatment at the same branch.
Nothing. Apparently, throwing out paying customers and their families is a policy that someone in PETCO thinks will make entirely different customers, utterly unaware of this treatment, mend their errant ways? This is absurd.
The final bit? When we contacted our bank to dispute the payment, it turned out our banker had experienced the exact same behavior. Still, absolutely nothing.
No prescription for you
I will not be using Petco anymore. My dog got exposed to fleas. My vet wrote a prescription and told me to take it to Petco to get filled. I did that. The Vetco personnel took the script and entered it into their system, took my money, and said I would have it in a couple of days. This was on March 17, 2025.
I received an email instructing me to mail in the script to the Petco Verification Team. There was no reason as to why. I called Petco, and Vetco, customer service and asked why. They really could not even come up with any type of answer. I mailed the prescription in. Petco has had the prescription for two weeks.
This morning I called customer service to find order status. She called the pharmacy. She was told they were not filling it because my vet used auto signing rather than scribbling his signature. Again, this could and should have been dealt with at the store when I took the prescription in. But Petco pharmacy personnel just sat on the prescription and did nothing. No notification by text, email, or phone. I did check my spam file. Petco used to be a professionally run organization, but not anymore.
I am now done with Petco. I have already spoken to my vet about better alternatives than Petco for filling pets' prescriptions.

I make the mistake of ordering my cat's prescription before reading reviews.
This company is beyond incompetent.
I ordered 2 orders of Revolution Plus flea treatment so I would have a total of 7 months supply. I did this as I have 4 other cats and I have that much supply of their flea treatment so I thought it would be good to have to get their meds synced up.
It was early in the morning that I ordered the meds and I kept track of the vet authorization on my petco account. After 2 days they were both listed as "waiting vet authorization" so I called my vet. My vet said they approved the order the day before. I waited one more day and then called Petco to see what the hold up was. The service rep, after putting me on hold several times, said that the vet only approved the 1 month prescription and not the 6 month one. This is not true, the "order" was approved as it was for the same cat and it's for 7 months. She said I would have to wait and call the vet (this was Saturday and my vet isn't open until Monday). I told her to just cancel the order. Both orders were still listed as waiting vet approval. She told me she would cancel the 6 month order and I said no, cancel them both. She claimed she did, but I still saw it on my account and told her. First she said it might take a bit and she had cancelled it and I pointed out it was the SAME order, so why didn't it show. She then said that the approved one could no longer be cancelled. I have no desire to do business with this place and I want my order cancelled. I asked for a supervisor, which she said isn't available. She said I would get a call back "shortly". I asked her to define shortly and she said 24 hours. I told her I would be calling my CC in 2 hours to do a chargeback. I don't see how you can force me to accept a tiny portion of my order without my permission, especially when it hasn't been shipped! This was ONE order, cancel it all or send it all. I am currently awaiting a call back from a supervisor. But it looks like I will have to waste my time and do a chargeback with my credit card company.
I will never shop here again and will be sure to spread the word. I see many people are doing that already, I wish I had done my research first.
Theft Outright - Off to litigation at this point
Took another chance in desperation, placed the order over the phone to be sure all the particulars were correct. They didn't take but moments to pull the money from the account as seen here:

THERE'S NO RECORD OF ANY SUCH ORDER! The bank has "record" of paying them but Petco insists there's no such order.
So, with reviews here that record the illegalities, today we send the matter to the State Attorney General, and escalate.
Petco needs to be put out of service.

If you need a prescription within 3-5 days, don't use petco. They'll give you the run around for 2 days, than if your lucky and they process your order, it will take another 3-5 days to receive it. Customer service is horrible.

Their grooming is by appointment only but you can never get an appointment. When we signed up there were 6 groomers working. Then they quickly went down to 2. They are booked for months ahead.

Petco offers same day delivery which is great but because my orders continually fail on their website and despite my numerous attempts to resolve I won’t use the website. I am still waiting to hear from a ‘premier’ support representative on my last attempt. In 2025 they should explore better tech team! Won’t shop online and chewy has my business now.
Poor & inflexible return policy; lack of concern for customers
I have been a customer of Petco and Petco.com for many years to help us with our cats. We had a cat that became sick over several months and lost their appetite. This created a backlog in food that had been shipped. We obviously were hoping our cat would improve and return to health, but sadly he passed away. A few weeks later the next autoship arrived for cat food when the previous order had still not been opened due to the situation. I took the food to my local Petco store. They accepted the most recent bag but said that they were not able to process a refund for the dry cat food item that was past 60 days (even though it was unopened, had over a 1 year shelf life still & despite the extenuating circumstances). They recommended calling customer service and shared that they are able to offer a customer more options. I did call customer service, explained the situation, all to no avail. Even after checking with higher management, the representative's reply was that they could not offer any exceptions - no matter what the circumstances, i.e. Petco will only offer a 60 day refund - 30 days for money back. As I mentioned to the customer representative, personally I will be looking elsewhere. Thankfully, there are options other than Petco, including ones that have a customer friendly return policy. Upon searching, I learned that Chewey.com has a 360 day return policy, no questions asked. Thank you, Chewey, for understanding what Petco chooses not to.
Worm infested case of Fancy Feast delivered
Received an order of 3 cases Fancy Feast a few weeks ago. Just opened the 3rd case to find a worm infested case of broken can. Totally disgusted with Petco and will never use them again. There's no excuse for delivering a broken case. Would like to post pictures.
BOTCHED grooming experience
I had a terrible experience at the Kapolei Petco grooming and want to share it. I took my standard poodle, Chase, in with clear instructions for a "Lamb haircut." I asked for a long afro, shaved areas around the nose and eyes, a short body and legs, clean paws, ear hair removal, and anus expression. I even showed them a picture of what I wanted.
But when I picked him up, he was completely shaved bald, which was nothing like what I had asked for. To make matters worse, they charged me $135 for it. I spoke with the manager, Jaycia, who was rude and unhelpful. She even threatened me, saying her husband worked for Petco HR and that my complaint wouldn't matter. She also refused to give me a refund.
I would not recommend this Petco location, especially if Kiana is the one grooming. Please be careful before making the same mistake I did.
Unlike other pet stores
Unlike other pet stores, Petco will not replace an expensive fish that dies quickly after purchase. They do not inform you of this or post signs anywhere saying as much. They are money hungry cheaters. Besides this, their dog grooming is also horrible. They did an unbelievably bad jog on our goldendoodle and overcharged us on top of it. Stay away from Petco!
Same Day Delivery Untruthful.
Petco.com printed claim for same delivery is false. I ordered my cat's food February 12, 2025 and as of February 21, 2025 my cat's food has not been delivered. I contacted Petco.com customer service and the representative attempt to claim Petco.com only has 2-5 day delivery service, representative was told Petco.com has the same day delivery in print on their website, so either Petco.com is lieing or their customer service representative is.
