This was a terrible experience
This was a terrible experience. My order arrived incomplete, which was frustrating enough, but the butter chicken was even worse. It looked like plain chicken dumped in yogurt with some random spicy powder sprinkled on top. The sauce was watery and completely lacked flavor. Honestly, it didn’t resemble proper butter chicken at all. I will never order from here again and definitely would not recommend it to anyone.

First time I ordered a meal from…
First time I ordered a meal from Mowgli. I ordered a takeaway from the Liverpool restaurant. The food was cold and totally inedible. The roti was rock hard, burnt and tiny size. The chicken was overcooked. The dhal was watery and tasteless. All the dishes were very small portions, bland and I didn’t eat any of them. They were that bad I have requested a refund. This is the worst Indian food I have ever had, I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone.
First time visit and very disappointed
First visit to Mowgli and we were very disappointed. Went to Grand Central in Birmingham. Had a selection of dishes. The chicken thighs came on a bed of coleslaw which ruined the dish and it was very misleading as it looked like a full dish but there were only a few pieces of chicken. The lamb curry portion was tiny and had chick peas in there - who puts chick peas in a lamb curry. The paneer was average and again a very small portion. Most of the foot was tasteless, bland and lacked flavour - nothing like what you would expect street food to be like. On top of that we were changed for sparkling water which we didn’t have. Very overpriced for very small portions. Will not be returning or recommending to anyone
Mowgli Bristol
Mowgli Bristol, great ambience....made better by the magic service, Mieke made it special!
Great experience all round
Great food, super tasty. Great atmosphere and service, will definitely go back again. Was served by Madison and Chelsea who were both so helpful and friendly.
Great quality and value for money
Great quality and value for money. Celebrated a birthday at the Corn Exchange restaurant and had the best evening. Staff were smart, polite, helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back and would recommend.
We love the food at Mowgli, HOWEVER dismal service
We love the food at Mowgli, I have countless mowgli books at home too, HOWEVER, the dismal lack of service at Water street liverpool on Sunday has potentially put a halt to our street food love affair. From being kept waiting for ages to order, to staff who obviously didn't enjoy their job, to the staff who were present to all be huddled around the computer by the door for what seemed like ages, to 1 manager shouting from the higher level to the other manager at the 'said' computer on the lower level by the door - all in it was a dire experience. To be honest I'm not sure, however much we love the food, whether we would bother going again as it's certainly not the ambience & friendly staff that attracts people in. Really disappointed.
Liverpool Water Street. Amazing food, Shocking service
Liverpool - water street
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a lovely member of staff who kindly advised one of my friends about the gluten-free options and showed us to our table. After reviewing the menu, three of us decided to order the Tiffin to share.
Unfortunately, our experience with the server (a gentleman wearing blue glasses) was disappointing. When we were unsure how to pronounce one of the dishes, his response was dismissive and unhelpful. When the gluten-free dish arrived, it was cold. After politely asking for it to be reheated, it was returned to the table in a manner that felt abrupt and discourteous.
Additionally, when the sharing platter arrived, the portion appeared to be the same size as the sharer for one. When we queried this, we were told, “You asked if it would feed three,” which was not the case — we had requested a sharer for three people.
At the end of the meal, the situation became more uncomfortable when the server questioned the tip. I explained that we felt he had been rather short with us, at which point he raised his voice and denied this. He then loudly thanked the neighbouring table for their tip, stating it had been a pleasure serving them, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional.
The food itself was delicious, and we had been looking forward to our visit. However, the level of customer service we experienced significantly detracted from what should have been an enjoyable occasion. Unfortunately, this interaction reflected poorly on the restaurant. I believe the staff member would benefit from additional customer service training to ensure future guests have a more positive experience.
Not what you’d expect, but it’s good!
We had a pre-theatre dinner here. A fabulous experience. The food was lovely, absolutely nothing like you would get from your local Indian take-away, it’s a bit of an eye-opener. The servers were quick and attentive and the “ambience” of the restaurant is good. I would happily recommend and will definitely return.
BOLLOCKS!!…
Went out for a b'day meal at mowglis corn exchange and ordered together and the other person got served there food and I received nothing SO MUCH FOR EATING TOGETHER! I got my food about 15 mins later as it wasn't apparently ordered as waiter didn't order so it wasn't a good experience at all especially as was a b'day dinner!
Mowgli continues to impress
We visited the Leeds restaurant again this week and as usual with the Mowgli restaurants we have visited, the food, service and general atmosphere were first class. What made this trip more special was we had a slight reservation about something and contacted the feedback team to express it. Our response from their agent, Natalie was excellent and completely put our minds at rest with her detailed attention. So not only have we had another very good eating experience but our confidence in the Mowgli company is enhanced. As a result we will be visiting our fifth Mowgli next week. It won't stop there the eating experience is too good.
Overpriced rubbish
Overpriced rubbish! Visited the restaurant in Brighton. Cauliflower fell apart, the food was cold, the paneer dish had 4 small cubes of paneer......I could go on but it was just so poor I I can't be bothered. Just one of those 'trendy' restaurant groups that I doubt will be around for long. They call it 'street food'; they are doing Indian street food an injustice. Staff were nice thou.
Visited Mowgli Preston …
Visited Mowgli Preston today had food from the lunch menu
I have to say the staff were lovely and very helpful but I wasn’t overly impressed, I ordered the butter chicken but when I cut into the chicken pieces I was very disappointed to find the chicken wasn’t white it was dark in colour, I called over one of the young ladies that were serving myself and the lady I was with and asked why the chicken wasn’t white she said she wasn’t sure but would go and speak to the manager, when she came back she informed us that all the chicken they use across the whole menu is chicken thigh, but it did not state this on the menu, I personally don’t like or eat chicken thighs or legs, and I only like chicken breast, I think that if this is the only part of the chicken that is used then people should be informed of this so they would be able to choose an alternative, and since eating my lunch I have had bad stomach pain, I don’t think I will be returning which is a shame as the staff were lovely and the restaurant is beautiful inside, apart from the tin cans with the cutlery in which I thought looked a bit tacky for such a nice restaurant
We visited Mowgli in Stratford for what…
We visited Mowgli in Stratford for what we thought would be a pleasant evening, turned out to be an awful experience with us returning some of our food and cancelling the rest of the order.
First of all, it’s your fellow asian women saving you from this restaurant.
They don’t have chai on the menu? - sorry but you absolutely cannot call this restaurant ‘Indian’. Chai is fundamental to our culture and to have with/before/after food.
Second of all, there was not even a selection of naan breads!!! It was just garlic and coriander paratha, but no garlic was to be seen on the partha and it didn’t taste fresh.
Thirdly, no raita? When we asked for it, we got given this milky sugary ‘raita’.
The food was cold within 10 minutes. The food tasted awful, no flavour, no chilli - nothing. It looked as if it had been heated up from yesterday’s leftovers.
The whole menu here would be the soe of a drinks menu at an actual Indian restaurant.
We had ordered the gunpowder chicken, which tasted stale and if someone had cooked it blindfolded.
The manager/guy in charge had zero hospitality manners.
Awful food and response from headoffice
I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience here was genuinely disappointing. We started with a few small plates which were fine—nothing memorable, but acceptable. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there.
The Paneer main was, without exaggeration, the worst paneer I’ve ever eaten. The sauce was watery, with an odd sour–bitter taste that made it difficult to eat. The Goan fish curry and the house lamb suffered from the same issue—thin, watery sauces with flavours that simply weren’t there. Indian curries should never have water separating from the sauce, and it was clear something had gone very wrong in the kitchen.
Overall, the food lacked depth, seasoning, and any of the richness you’d expect from Indian cuisine.
It was so disappointing that we paid for our starters and drinks and decided to leave without finishing the meal. I won’t be returning to this or any Mowgli restaurants, as the whole experience left a sour taste—literally and figuratively.
The one saving grace was the service. Tommy, the manager, and his team were genuinely brilliant—warm, attentive, and professional throughout. It’s a real shame the food didn’t come close to matching the high standard of the staff.
I did write to headoffice with the above and their response was to blame my preference and taste buds below:
“I’m very sorry to hear how disappointed you were with the food during your visit to our Oxford restaurant. That’s certainly not the experience we want any guest to leave with, and I’m sorry that the dishes didn’t meet expectations on this occasion.
All of our dishes are based on our founder’s family home recipes, the food her family eats around their own table. We recognise that these flavours and styles of cooking can be a matter of personal preference, and while they may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s important to us that every guest feels listened to and cared for”
I have responded back and told them not to respond back to me:
“My feedback wasn’t about preference — it was about the quality of the cooking. Suggesting that the issue came down to my personal taste feels dismissive, especially given my familiarity with Indian cuisine.
I’ve visited your restaurant before and previously had an excellent experience, which is exactly why I chose to return. Unfortunately, on this occasion the dishes were poorly executed. The chef’s interpretation of the recipes simply didn’t reflect the standard I know your restaurant is capable of. I’ve eaten at enough Indian restaurants, and cooked enough myself, to recognise the difference between a flavour preference and food that has not been prepared well.
There’s no need to reply. It’s clear that rather than acknowledging the issue, you’ve chosen to attribute it to the customer’s palate. I’ll be sharing this experience with friends and family, and I will also be posting an online review”
Visited Glasgow restaurant on 24/1/26
Visited Glasgow restaurant on 24/1/26. Have been once before when first opened. Food was lovely but service bad. Had to ask for drinks service, meal arrived in dribs n drabs. Table next to us left as no-one had gone near them for 20 mins. Clearly not enough staff.
Uncooked food
I visited the Cheshire Oaks, Mowgli Restaurant and selected several dishes, one of which was a new edition, Diwali Cauliflower, which in effect is a cauliflower head served in a bowl with spices.
The main part of the cauliflower was absolutely uncooked and when I raised this with a member of the serving staff I was informed that this was how it was served and it was intended that only the outer florets were to be shaved off, I was offered another that would be more thoroughly cooked, I declined as I did not see the point of waiting a further 20+minutes just to eat a cauliflower by itself.
The rest of our meal was very tasty, however this spoiled our experience and this is a dish that I would strongly advise against ordering unless the customer likes eating raw cauliflower which I do not.

This is probably the WORST 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼Indian restaurant I have been to, in Glasgow. If you are looking for tasty authentic Indian food pls AVOID this place!
We had gone for a special meal to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The ambience was good but the first impression didn’t last very long and quickly turned into sheer disappointment when the food arrived.
£15 Lamb Bunny Chow barely had any lamb & all we could taste was tomatoes and kidney beans. The Butter Chicken was sour & tasted stale. £9 for 2 parathas was extortionate! (You can buy similar parathas in supermarkets - a pack of 20 parathas for £3)
The rice was ok but the portion was v small for the price.
We would NOT be going back!
