Thanks to Jess and Rebecca who dealt brilliantly with conveyancing for a property we purchased. It was not straightforward as it was a repossession in a rural area for which there was little of the needed information. Adding to that we needed to complete in 21 days which we were told was impossible by other solicitors. For a very reasonable extra fee they managed to make this happen and were in fact ready to complete a few days early! They worked hard and were always ready to answer our questions and have advice above what was expected of them. Highly impressive and mk uch recommended! Thanks Jess and Rebecca!

AVOID!

I used Laker Legal for conveyancing last year. I did this as I wanted a local firm to the properties in Kent. Their so-called Maidstone office is not where the work is done from, very misleading!

I was assigned to Jessica Blacow. Throughout the process she was unhelpful and downright rude! A sale and purchase which should have taken only a few months took over 8! This was a 3-person chain so not exactly complex. In the end, we nearly lost my mortgage offer due to her delays. Had I not chased regularly, I would have lost out.

Jessica Blacow was incredible throughout the process of buying an auction property. Jessica definitely went above and beyond to ensure the process was stress free as possible and smooth sailing.I would highly recommend Jessica , she was very informative and kept me up to date with any updates with the process and responded promptly with any enquiry’s I had.Jessica is friendly and very good at her job!!!Rebecca was also very helpful along this process and had good communication throughout.

Although we initially chose Laker Legal because we thought it was a local company we do not regret the decision for them to do the conveyancing for our recent house move despite them actually being 300 miles away in Lancaster. Jessica and Rebecca helped two 80 year olds navigate the technology-driven arena of modern day conveyancing and brought our sale and purchase to a satisfactory conclusion.

The team at Laker Legal made our conveyancing experience so much more manageable and the fact they always answer any queries and were on hand to respond is great. Jessica and Rebecca in particular went above and beyond for us to get us in on the required date.

Jessica and Rebecca carried out our house purchase which included some difficult issues particularly that of a tenancy.

They supplied all of the documentation and results of the enquiries in an excellent and timely manner.

The completion began to look as though it would take some days with slow

The team at Laker Legal are really friendly and has always been a joy to deal with.

We used Laker Legal for conveyancing services from their fictitious Kings Hill office. (Turns out there is no office there; employees work from home.)The process was characterised by needless delays, errors, incompetence and appalling communication throughout. It is virtually impossible to speak with anyone. The director, Stephen Ogden was apparently permanently 'in a meeting' or 'away from his desk'. I complained about over charging and made numerous phone calls and sent two registered letters, but received no response. (Mr Ogden wasn't even capable of adhering to his own published complaints procedure.) Unsatisfactory and disappointing experience. I would advise anyone to avoid this firm.

I wouldn't recommend this firm at all for their conveyancing. My case was unfortunately assigned to Jessica Blacow, who was clearly not up to the job. She spent six weeks sending emails to the wrong email address for my buyer's solicitor, without ever questioning why she did not get a reply. She held up the entire chain - I had to field so many calls from my estate agent querying the hold up. The company then incredibly charged me extra because of this! It was extremely hard to get hold of anyone at the company most of the time - sometimes I was told solicitors were working from home and there were no direct lines to them, including the director Stephen Ogden. On exchange day, Jessica decided to leave the office at 3.30pm before exchange had happened, which made the day even more stressful. Furthermore, do bear in mind they are based in Lancaster and do not have any presence anywhere else, as they falsely claim on their website.

Dreadful experience with this dishonest firm, who knowingly mislead clients about their office locations.
Appalling communications: impossible to speak to on the phone as they pretend to be ‘in meetings’ or ‘away from their desk’. After a dozen or so attempts at calling them, one becomes familiar with their stock list of excuses/lies trotted out by the answering service. Very slow response to emails, or none at all.
Altogether a ghastly, extremely stressful conveyancing experience. (They very nearly crashed the whole chain with their delays and lack of responses to others’ queries.)
By any standard, a seriously unprofessional outfit.

I’m writing to raise a serious complaint about how my case has been handled by your firm. I was referred to you through my legal insurance as part of my home insurance coverage.

A few days ago, I reached out asking to send a detailed email explaining my situation, since I’ve already spent many hours dealing with the police and Citizens Advice. Because of the stress, exhaustion, and trauma I’m going through, I needed to communicate in writing. After sending the email, I got no response. With my full-time job and ongoing issues—including coordinating with the police and trying to sell a vehicle my ex-partner abandoned—I couldn’t follow up sooner.

Later, I sent more documents related to the police investigation, expecting these to be added to my file for review and further discussion. Instead, I received an unprofessional and humiliating email from your firm, sent to both me and the police, saying you were unaware of my involvement and that the matter wasn’t your concern.

If you had actually read my first email, you would have seen a clear outline of the case and my request for help. This lack of attention is unacceptable.

This morning, I called your office and spoke with the receptionist. I explained how stressed I am and that I’ve already spent a lot of time explaining the case, and asked her to review my email and have someone call me back. She refused and insisted I explain everything again, which I did reluctantly while at work.

Then she told me your firm couldn’t help because the case was outside your expertise, and ended the call abruptly when I asked for confirmation that I should have been told this earlier. Ignoring my emails and then sending a dismissive message to the police has caused me a lot of distress and embarrassment.

I want this complaint escalated within your firm, and I expect a prompt, thorough response. I will also be informing my insurer about my dissatisfaction with your professionalism and asking them to reconsider their relationship with you.
