I then proceeded to cancel the entire reservation and they kept 50% … I don’t feel good about this.

What a shame @Holidu and @Interhome! You canceled my vacation in Spanish because the owner "mended the house" and now you refuse to provide an alternative. I have used Interhome and their website many times. The site is very easy to use and their filters enable the user to home in on exactly what property is required.

I always give companies the benefit of the doubt, in particular when things go wrong, because that is the acid test. We stayed in a property managed by Interhome that was...average, with some specific issues we were unhappy with. This is an extract from the list I sent to Interhome whilst staying there:
1. The house was in a pretty grim state, in terms of cleanliness.
2. The refrigerator seal was not clean - it was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned in a long time
3. The fridge as a whole was well past its best. The exterior had significant rusting
4. The kitchen scissors were covered in congealed fat
5. The front door had a fair speckling of black mould, indicating it had also not been cleaned recently. There was evidence of damp in other places as well.
6. There was other evidence of poor cleaning
7. One of the two single beds had a worn and uncomfortable mattress with the springs clearly visible and you could feel them when you lay on it. Add to that the sheet was past its best and bobbly/rough and our daughter had a poor nights sleep on it.
8. The other single mattress, whilst comfortable, had a stained sheet. Unclear if it was permanent or just not clean
9. The double bed was reasonably comfortable initially although it was unusually high given that it had one (reasonably decent) double mattress perched on what seems like a fairly old one underneath. Over time it felt more uncomfortable and the mattress would move position over night and have to be repositioned the next day.
10. There were signs that basic maintenance had not been kept up e.g. broken fittings for what must have been a blind or curtain over the window on the front door
11. Overall the house had a smell of damp in some cupboards, and was screaming out for a deep clean
12. The house was freezing downstairs on our arrival as heaters had not been switched on.
13. One final sign that there was a lack of care: the house manual, which mentioned the owners names rather than Interhome, was full of loose sheets of paper, and had clearly not been looked at in a long time. I was perplexed that this had not been updated, given I had been told that Interhome had taken over management die to the owners challenges in letting the property. It just amplified the sense that the house is unloved and poorly managed.
All of the above jars with the extensive and effusive communication on AirBnB and by email before, during and after our stay. My complaint to the local agent remains unanswered largely, and the reason I have written this 1 star review is that today I received a cheery email asking me to post a Google review... That further irritated me as it was on top of the inability of the Customer Care team to contact me when several weeks ago I was told they would.
My suggestion: do not place great value on the slickness of this company, and be prepared to be disappointed by the level real and meaningful communication if things go wrong.
For clarity, were it not for the lousy communication I would have given them a 2 star review. My review on AirBnB was 2 star; they lose the extra one now.
Edited to add: as I cannot reply to Interhome's message below, I should make it clear whilst I accepted the refund of the cleaning fee (the bear minimum response, none of my other complaints were acknowledged or addressed. At no point did I say I was satisfied and my follow up eaimls made that clear.

Formal Consumer Warning — Apartment Icaria Barcelona (Interhome / Vrbo)
The property we rented should not be on the rental market.
We stayed at Apartment Icaria Barcelona via Interhome (also listed on Vrbo) and encountered conditions that fall well below any reasonable standard of habitability. The apartment was affected by a persistent sewage odour and significant nighttime noise disturbance, rendering it unsuitable for occupation — particularly for a family with children.
We notified Interhome immediately on the first day and requested alternative accommodation. They were unreachable and failed to provide any assistance at the point of need, leaving us with no practical option but to remain in the property.
Subsequent investigation revealed that these issues were longstanding and known to Interhome. Multiple prior guest reviews on both Booking.com and Interhome’s own platform explicitly reference the same sewage smell and noise problems. As recently as February 2026, a reviewer called for the property to be removed entirely. Despite this, Interhome continued to market and let the apartment without disclosure.
This raises serious concerns regarding misrepresentation and failure to disclose material defects.
Interhome ultimately offered a nominal 10% refund, attempting to attribute the sewage smell to wider municipal infrastructure and asserting that our completion of the stay constituted acceptance of the conditions. This position is highly questionable. Remaining in a property due to lack of viable alternatives — particularly mid-trip in a foreign city — does not equate to informed acceptance, nor does it waive a consumer’s right to redress.
A reasonable consumer would not knowingly contract to stay in accommodation affected by sewage odours. The continued listing of this property, in light of repeated complaints, suggests a disregard for basic consumer protection standards.
Any response from Interhome should be viewed in this context. Standardised customer service language does not address the underlying issue: a property with known defects being repeatedly rented without adequate disclosure.
Consumer advice:
Do not rely solely on Interhome listings. Independently verify reviews across multiple platforms (e.g. Booking.com), and use reverse image searches to identify duplicate listings and broader feedback. If you encounter similar issues, be aware that accepting a stay under constrained circumstances does not invalidate your right to pursue appropriate compensation.

I would highly advise you NOT to use this company. We booked and paid a deposit on a villa 8 months ago with them. A few weeks ago we received an email saying "unfortunately the intercom holiday residence that you have booked is not available due to an error in the calendar".
They then offered us another villa which was nowhere near the standard of the initial villa we booked. How could we be sure that Interhome wasn't going to cancel again on another villa?!
I received no apology phone call or any proper explanation as to what a "error in the calendar" actually means.
We had booked our flights 9 months ago as we are going for a wedding in August and are now left with extremely high villa prices!

Really bad experience with booking so far. I looked on their website to book a property and the listing did not mention an additional parking fee. I called customer services and they explicitly said there is free parking onsite. Based on the advice I went and booked the property and got an email to pay an additional fee for parking. I called them back and asked them to resolve this issue as this rental was sold incorrectly both on their website and by their customer services agent. I would have booked a different property had I been given correct information. It’s been 4 days since my booking and complaints and no update whatsoever!

There was a lot of information and photographs of my rental. I hope it lives up to my expectations. The fact I can take my small dog is a bonus and being able not to be restricted to weekend only booking dates. Booking was quick and easy with good information of when and how future documentation will be received.

I had my first experience with inter home and was over the moon with their problem solving skills! I was actually struggling with another partner that works with inter home who I won’t name because I have zero positives to say about them! However I contacted inter home and received excellent assistance from someone called David. What was a major issue he sorted out in moments and prevented me from losing a significant amount of money!
I will definitely book again with inter home and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a quality holiday! Oh by the way the holiday was great too!!

Absolutely awful experience using interhome. The property we have just stayed in for a week was filthy. We had multiple concerns at check in. We reached out for help as soon as we arrived and were told they would respond at their earliest convenience. We still have had no response despite our constant attempt to discuss. We have just checked out a week later and have heard nothing from Interhome. It has massively ruined our holiday experience, I would not recommend interhome and will
