Poor food
We had booked a voucher experience to enjoy the spa and lunch. When we went to the spa the steam room wasn't working.
At lunch, 2 of us ordered fish, the fish was dry and tasteless.
We complained and the took our plates away and we waited for 40 mins. By this time the 3rd guest had finished her pasta dish.
When it came, it was the same plate, so we had enough and decided to end the experience and request a refund. We were told that they had a bigger event ,hence the kitchen is busy and that's why it was delayed.
We were past to an admin staff to deal with this. This person gave us a managers name of Lucy and said she will be in touch. This happened on Monday the 15th of Dec 25 and we are still waiting for Lucy to be in touch.
I have called several times and always been given excuses that the person I need to speak to is not available.
We now have decided to go to greenwood to resolve this.
I will update here, what happened there.
Disgusted
Inability to book
Received a voucher through Red Letter Days for a spa day but cannot book online through them (no ability to do this - blank page - despite it being offered on the site). Have phoned numerous times but always a message saying busy leave name/no and will call back. Have received some call backs (not at a time window requested) but not avail to take call. Spoke to Reception who took details of my booking request but no call or email confirming booking. Feeling exasperated.
The hotel was lovely
The hotel was lovely, the staff jacob/ Nacita in the spa, restaurant and bar were very accommodating, lovely experience, would recommend to friends and family, we will certainly be coming back
Greenwoods Hotel & Spa pampering experience.
Greenwoods Hotel & Spa has an attractive appearance. Very well presented.
It had a lovely festive feel with it's beautiful Christmas decorations.
The staff were warm and welcoming. Good lunch menu, excellent waiter service from Jacob.
Lovely facilities and fabulous massage. The Spa and lunch package was excellent value for money. I would strongly recommend and will certainly visit again.
Disappointing
We stayed for a spa evening with treatments, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast. There were definite highlights, but also several issues that stopped this being the relaxing experience it should have been.
The facial and massage were absolutely incredible, and the therapists were genuinely excellent, easily the best part of the stay. The food was also very good, and reception staff were polite and helpful when issues were raised.
Unfortunately, the spa itself was far too crowded. There were nowhere near enough loungers for the number of guests, and no seating other than loungers. As a result, we couldn’t get a lounger, couldn’t access the hot tub, and couldn’t use the sauna, which was really disappointing given this is the main reason for booking a spa stay.
We also felt that voucher guests were treated differently, being seated in a separate back area of the dining room and placed in rooms above the bar. While the set menu was fine, the experience felt noticeably less premium.
Our room had several problems:
• The heating didn’t work, though reception did provide a portable heater quickly
• The bed was extremely small, smaller than a standard double
• Being above the bar meant loud music until late at night, which only stopped after calling reception at 11.30PM, then it started again early the next morning, just past 7.10AM.
On checkout day, a booked treatment was moved without warning, meaning it had to be cancelled as we couldn’t wait longer. A refund was agreed, but it was still a disappointing end to the stay.
Overall, the treatments and staff were excellent, but overcrowding, room issues, noise, and poor communication seriously affected the experience. I might consider returning for a treatment if it were absolutely garenteed it wouldn't be moved without warning, but would not stay overnight again unless these issues were addressed.

Following a recent stay
Following a recent stay, emailed the Manager twice with feedback and heard nothing.
Thank you once again for another lovely stay. Coming to see you always re-charges our batteries.
We would like to give some constructive feedback to help you make our next stay even better and also for those guests yet to enjoy Greenwoods.
The temperature in the bedrooms was too hot. We couldnt find how to turn the temperature down, and the circular window would not open. This made for a restless, uncomfortable nights sleep (or no sleep!)
No bread rolls were offered at the start of our evening meal. there was a plate and knife for a roll, however when we asked for the usual bread roll, we were advised that these were 'extra'?!
There was a female member of staff serving in the restaurant who looked very scruffy compared to their colleagues;
Un-ironed uniform, two ladders in tights, false eyelashes and floppy hair.
We are sure that there are food hygiene standards that have to be met, along with the professional appearance expected of Greenwoods, as we felt that this member of staff needs some encouragement to reach these standards.
We hope that our comments are helpful, and we look forward to coming to stay again at the beginning of March.
Unhygienic with useless management
Unhygienic. Useless. Management. The best staff have all left. Possible health issues. Myself and various friends still report ongoing issues. This place needs health and safety visits urgently. Beware
Hiding in the small print
I received a voucher for a hotel stay including spa and dinner for two as a gift from my 70 year old parents. Hidden in the terms and conditions, but not the product summary is a clause that the voucher cannot be used at the weekend. I reached out to the reservations team to try and find a solution given the misleading voucher terms, sadly the team were zero help. Really disappointing and not the service you expect from a 4 star hotel!
Not Impressed
I am sad to say I would not recommend Greenwoods. I booked months ago for spa day and lunch. I chased 5 times to book spa treatments and every time it went to voicemail. I finally sent a stroppy message and someone called, only to be told that they had no availability for treatment at this stage? To make it worse they then emailed me a lovely brochure of all the treatments I could have had! I did complain, they did not respond. On the day the meal was superb, cannot fault the restaurant or the staff. But the spa was rammed! They had run out of towelling robes, every sun lounger was reserved and the jacuzzi was constantly full. We gave up in the end. Sorry to sound like a misery but that was our experience :(
Greenwoods no customer care
I bought a voucher as a present for my wife. Been trying for nearly a month to book but nobody in the spa picks up so we have left so many messages but still no reply 🤬.
I went through to the end of the choices on one call and got to speak to a hotel receptionist who said that they would speak to the spa staff to give me a call back, guess what? No call. I have also sent two email with the same lack of response. Pity Greenwoods used to be good. But not now. No customer care at all.
Terrible spa day - from booking experience, to the day itself, to resolving my complaint following.
Pretty awful spa day experience all round, and dreadful service following a complaint about it. V difficult to book as I had a voucher and could only book by phone, but couldn't get through to anyone to book immediately - had to leave messages and wait for callbacks. Couldn't specify times for treatments (advised on arrival only), then found my friend and I had times one after the other rather than at the same time, due to lack of staff. Spa facilities in general a little tired and in need of some TLC - very underwhelming. Staff on spa reception spent the time I was waiting there for my friend, watching something on a phone and giving a running commentary to one other, squealing and being generally loud and totally unprofessional. My friend's treatment was just BIZARRE. No intro from the masseuse, no explanation of anything, no temperature check (it was a hot stone massage), lots of pauses almost like she was talking to someone, oil spilt over my friend's shoes, no response to a request to avoid an area of injury, messy attire (gym leggings and a long, baggy, woolly jumper that dragged all over my friend during the massage), no consistency (spent longer on one leg than the other but only did one hand), THEN when my friend breathed out having turned on her back, the masseuse said under her breath "Shut up". She then stopped the treatment and said "That's your hot stone massage over, don't go in the pool or shower for half an hour" (with her closed - all interractions were apparently with her eyes closed). My friend left the room and could then hear the masseuse singing loudly in the room behind her. I emailed to complain a few days later, followed up with further emails and calls and finally had my first response THREE MONTHS LATER. This was to offer a refund for my friend's treatment. I responded a few weeks later (delay due to a bereavement) agreeing, and then chased a month later having had no response again. I was then asked for a phone number to call to process the refund, which I immediately provided (early April), but have had no phonecall and despite a number of calls and emails since, this is still outstanding.
The spa is very tired
The spa is very tired - it really needs a facelift and has minimal facilities. The outdoor seating on a very hot day had no umbrellas and had certainly seen better days with grubby tables and cushion-less seats . The jacuzzi was broken and the water machine dispersed tepid water. This is not a spa experience that I would recommend but my massage was excellent.
A great hotel and restaurant.
After reading some of the negative reviews the night before we went I was a bit concerned, but our experience was first class. My wife and I went for our anniversary, the reception was friendly and helpful, the hotel was in very good condition and looked recently decorated. Our room was lovely and the dinner and breakfast was very good. This seemed to be the reaction from other guests that we met.
Brides Avoid
I enquired about holding my Wedding reception at this hotel. On enquiring I was promised that details of menus & packages would be emailed across but they were never sent?!
When we arrived for our appointment we were asked to sit in reception where an overflowing stinking laundry basket of towels was being filled by people exiting the gym ~ nice! My guests would be really impressed with that (not)
We were then shown to a dirty room, and made to stand whilst the brochure was read to us by a hotel employee leaning on a trestle table.
We were then shoved out through what felt like a tradesmen’s entrance to the gardens, whilst being told if we didn’t receive our quote the same day we would definitely receive it the next day…. Needless to say 3 days later and I’m still waiting. Greenwood’s if you read this, don’t worry about the quote we are going elsewhere. This hotel is a disgrace
No response from customer service about our stay!!
Emailed customer services about our experience with no running water in our room for the duration of our stay a couple of times now and received no correspondence at all! We were unable to shower, flush the toilet or brush our teeth for what was supposed to be for our wedding anniversary over night indulgence package for the handsome sum of £465. Very disappointed, very awkward and very uncomfortable.
Terrible customer service from the…
Terrible customer service from the receptionist, who happily told me and my party that we would miss out on our treatments that had been scheduled (by them that day) for early in the morning when we were told they would be after lunch.
The same receptionist then went on to tell other members of the party that we had been ‘moany’! Absolutely unprofessional and rude.
The spa staff were lovely and helpful, but our overall experience was ruined by the smirks and comments given by reception throughout the day. Staff need training on customer service (especially the one with the awful fake lashes).
Tiny towels!!!
I have been a member for some time and overall have been pleased but nowhere is perfect. However the management have now decided to give all the members cheap small towels barely bigger than a hand towel that doesn’t even cover you up when wrapped around. I am average size. It would seem you need to be size 6!! I thought it was a one off when I visited the other day. I know other members are very unhappy. Come on you are reducing the service offered but not the price!! An educated guess is they are old stock being re-used.

Y daughters birthday at the greenwood’s spa in Billericay, building etc was lovely had a massage, couldn’t have a facial as I am unable to lay on my back, so I couldn’t have it, I went to the pool with my 2 daughters we couldn’t find a bed or anywhere to sit, the relaxation room was full of people so I sat on a stool , not relaxing g at all, went to have my lunch roast beef, but beef was red and bleeding by this time I had had enough I complained about the beef they cooked it further so I could eat it.
We then went to get our feet done and I was told that the lady who was very nice could only paint over the top of the nail varnish that was on there .
We then went back to the pool where again we couldn’t get in it there were towels on the beds just left there but no people, but we were told we couldn’t stay In there and to wait half an hour.
My daughter wanted a shower but the shower wasn’t working it was only putting out cold water and all other showers were full.
This was the worst day I have ever had and would not recommend a day at green woods in Billericay we paid 750 pound between the 3 of us and I only had 1 massage half a pedicure, and we never got into the pool or the jacuzzi, we had a lunch that was nice but meat was very rare I personally paid 240 pound for nothing and my 2 daughters paid the same I would not recommend greenwood’s
