Very helpful staff particularly in the cafe. However there were not enough staff in the cafe it was very fraught ordering as we were 6 adults and 4 children.

Went for 1st visit to the York Dobbies to try cafe for coffee and snack. Hugely disappointed as the cafe has a disgusting 2nd area where it's all very scruffy and tatty but also filthy on floors and paintwork - black dirt along edges where I sat - litter on the floor - hadn't been swept for a while I'd guess - trays not cleared away and ghastly music playing. Can't believe that area would pass hygiene regs. Main area is better but staff though polite, need better training to relate to customers. They were rather offhand. I spoke to the manager about it who said they're gradually trying to improve things and train up staff. But they should get on with it faster and close that poor area until it's sorted out. Plants seemed ok if a bit tatty and expensive. Even the outside areas and car park are very poor standard. Shan't be going back.

We had a very disappointing breakfast at Dobbies in York, certainly didn't bear any resemblance to the pictures. The bacon and sausage were anaemic, barely cooked at all, the scrambled egg was dry and overdone, only white sliced bread for toast, none of the drink options that were advertised in the cafe. The staff seemed harassed and stressed. We had expected much better.

We enjoy visiting this centre but very disappointed in the restaurant. We always have a coffee but there was no Gluten Free option in the cakes or biscuits. The centre itself is well stoked with a good variety of quality plants and goods.

Garden centre is nice, clean and tidy but the plants are very expensive. Met a friend for lunch. The food was poor, very old fashioned unimaginative menu. Salad that accompanied was inedible, looked as though it was past its best. The coffee was nice enough .
The tables were full of old dirty plates that had not been cleared. It is such a shame as they have a great set up and there is no where nice to meet in this area.
Please get some decent catering staff in !!

Quality is always good but expensive these days due to the squeeze that is on most of us.
Sorry to see no trugs in stock - one of the most useful items a gardener should have in all three sizes.

had lunch today, both had fish finger sandwiches, the bread was incredibly thick and contained flat squashed fish fingers where the fish was grey inside. The salad in the side wasnt fresh. Tea and coffee were good, but for £20 we will NOT be going back.

We came for some lunch and some plant shopping. Waited for half an hour for 2 toasties and some chips. When the food finally came out I had to use a knife and fork to eat a bacon, cranberry and Brie toastie as it was soggy and falling to pieces. The bread was a seeded white loaf and not brown as I had asked. Very disappointing and we won’t be back. It’s unacceptable when we have both worked in the hospitality industry ourselves.

Having been to Dobbies in Scotland and North of England and being suitably impressed we were extremely disappointed with York. Cafe was slow and toilet facilities left much to be desired. Long wait at the till and very difficult to manoeuvre trolley with several plant pots near the till. Won't rush back.

Terrible service in the York cafe. Arrived at 3pm hoping for afternoon tea (it is, after all, intended to be eaten in the afternoon!), which is prominently advertised on the cafe menu board, only to be told that you have to book online a day in advance! So they don't want walk in custom then?? Even Betty's, York's best afternoon tea room, don't require reservations for their afternoon teas, so why would we need to book in advance for a tired looking cafe in a dingy garden centre?

The lady also said that the 'chef' had already gone home anyway, even if we could have ordered on the day. Reading the other reviews on here, it seems as though Dobbies cafes don't actually want to serve food - probably the mark ups/profit margins are better for them on teas & coffees. Nothing wrong with that, but don't advertise food as being available when it's clearly not!!

Very frustrating and I won't bother going back - they obviously don't want my custom!

We visited Dobbies,York, primarily for lunch on our way home to Belper. The staff were very pleasant but the toasted sandwiches we had were quite awful, we didn't complain as we didn't feel anything would be done. The sandwiches were made with uninspiring bread that was soaked in horrible margarine and the fillings of ham and cheese and cheese and tomato were tasteless, the only taste was from the onion on the spoonful of salad garnish. I would have been embarrassed to serve this snack to anybody. I don't normally post reviews but felt compelled to on this occasion. Thank you Lorna and Anders Hobson

Lovely staff, plants well looked after. Couldn't find what I was looking for but the staff tried very hard to help. Some things a bit expensive but you can see improvements being made. Really nice cafe

Lovely place - really good displays of plants and containers. Also really good cafe and food hall.

Lots of different variety of potato and flowers

Regular visitors to Dobbies York, always friendly staff in the restaurant where we enjoy the tea and scones.
We call into the Sainsbury store on site where we enjoy a few reduced bargains. We're guided to some we may miss by the friendly Pauline, who's the most hard working staff member at getting the bargains sold! We enjoy our friendly catch ups with Pauline on our trips to the store.

Good customer service, found the products i wanted

Very slow service and tiny quantity of soup but inedible anyway. Dirty table. In summary a very poor experience.

Pleasant and knowledgeable staff, nice friendly atmosphere. Saw the children enjoying Santa's Grotto. Have heard that Breakfast with Santa is also very popular. Keep up the good work.

Went specifically to buy LED Christmas lights. They were half price which is great however they did not work so had to make a trip back to replace them. The shop assistant was very helpful and tested the replacement set before we left.
