As a wedding photographer
As a wedding photographer, I have had the pleasure of capturing memories at the De Vere Cranage Estate. The former country seat of the Armitstead family, this rural retreat in Cheshire is the epitome of charm and elegance. The building, designed by celebrated British architect Lewis Wyatt, features a mix of historic and modern elements, from the red brick and warm yellow sandstone to the pretty green lawns that greet visitors.
When it comes to event spaces, the house offers a wonderful backdrop for both traditional and modern weddings. From the historic spaces to the modern touches, the eclectic mix of heritage and style creates an atmosphere that is both elegant and memorable.
Food and drink is a big feature at the De Vere Cranage Estate. The Tempus Restaurant & Bar offers seasonal dishes that are freshly cooked, while the outdoor terrace provides a laid-back atmosphere for guests. Upstairs, rich décor and stylish furnishings in the bedrooms ensure that guests have a place to relax and recharge.
Despite the peaceful and tranquil setting, the hotel is just minutes away from J18 of the M6 motorway, with direct rail links to Manchester city centre and easy reach of Manchester Airport. This makes it an ideal location for guests who are travelling from out of town.
In conclusion, I highly recommend the De Vere Cranage Estate as a wedding venue. Its peaceful setting, charming architecture, and elegant event spaces make it the perfect backdrop for capturing memories that will last a lifetime.
Kindest regards
The Kensington Photographer

No headboard on one bed, when two were pushed together. Dirty chair and lamp shade. Just because we asked for an adapted room, should not mean you are given a room of inferior quality.

Beautiful building, hiding shameful customer service.
I wish I'd read some of these reviews before booking our event here. We were completely missold things by the events team who aren't even present at the event and leave it up to lovely but inexperienced young staff who have to deal with unhappy customers, it's actually disgraceful. Spent over £20k, left unfulfilled, some of our guests with dietary requirements not even fed, completely underwhlemed. When you complain to the management team, they simply couldn't care less because they'll be some other schmuck lured in by the beautiful red vines being looted for a 5* service and receiving a very mediocre 1*. Trust me, you need to book elsewhere.
Unapologetic grumpy service
My daughter in April booked & paid for two rooms at Nottingham Orchard hotel for her future graduation in August. We arrived on the day, so far so good, the blunt receptionist told us we had only paid for one room and that we needed to pay now for the second room. upon returning home we checked to find out (as we had thought) that we had paid for two rooms, then a series of phonecalls bookings-> hotel reception-> Accounts (various unapologetic conversations) Sarah in accounts finally processed a refund. The impression I gained (bar sarah) is that the staff are unaware of how important customers are, they made me feel like I was a nusiance even though it was the Hotel chains error. I will avoid & advise others to, until they remember or are taught without customers there is no business.
Cranage Hall - awful
Cranage Hall: While the staff were very helpful, the experience was very disappointing. Room was on ground floor. Room was freezing as heating not on - I turned it on - plus carpet thin with little insulation so the cold concrete could be felt. No rugs. No extra blankets, no water, no room service menu and no art work on wall -just the hooks!! All the doors on corridor to outside were open - so not only freezing, major security breach, When complained the GM did reply the same night but stated room spec was appropriate for the rate but as I pointed out all lovely images on the web site showed same rate rooms with art work. Having empty walls with picture hooks was dismal! Next day pictures were put back! I also fed back that any single person booking DIRECT with hotel ( which I did), at a venue that clearly focuses on weddings, should be asked if part of that event. That's not hard when booking direct. The one nice 'lounge' in the old building with fireplace was full of wedding guests - so my idea of booking for a nice treat to be able to use spa and pool and relax, was misplaced. The pool and gym were miles away from the room. The breakfast room was full to the brim with happy wedding guests, so finding a table for one was awful. Buffet not great. And while says served until 10.30 am, at 10.10 staff were sealing tables away , moving food from buffet all round people who in theory had another 20 minutes to come down and eat a breakfast at their leisure. NO ventilation on the Saturday morning day, despite high rates of Covid. Sunday, doors opened so maybe my complaint was heard. Maybe other rooms were nicer but mine was so dated and tired. No heated rail in bathroom so couldn't dry towels for reuse, no do not disturb notice. Had the manager admitted that the room was dated and maybe due for renewal that might have felt a bit better. To rub salt in the room, when I booked I had asked if offers were booking direct. Was told no. Yet when was reminding myself of rate I paid (just under £150 a night) there were offers offering cheaper room and £15 off food.
I am sure the wedding guests had a lovely time. Staff were lovely but the hotel is in need of total upgrade and is not suitable for anyone looking for a stay in a estate type house in lovely grounds
De Vere Tortworth is only good in…
De Vere Tortworth is only good in pictures! The room we had was a bunker, three quarter under ground, single glazing next to a car park (we could hear people talking at 7 in the morning) and desperately in need of TLC. As for the breakfast, not to 4 stars standard, slice bread, oily fried eggs, rubbery scramble eggs, no fresh fruits. Not to mention the bathroom, toilet holder completely loose, rusty bath, thick dirt behind toilet, empty tissue box. De Vere is way below 4 stars standard, two stars is what De Vere should be rated at. We were at room 102, also known as the BUNKER.
I stayed at this hotel in De Ver Beaumont Windsor
I stayed at this hotel in Windsor. It was terrible. Terrible staff and service. I tried to speak to reception about the issues and they could not care less. Family wedding so extremely disappointed. I complained we had no water in rooms… not interested!! Only one towel with two guest in the room. Ridiculously small room. My parents found a worm in their bed in their room. The staff couldn’t careless. What happened to customer service. I stayed in room 507. So would be grateful if they Can actually be bothered to provide some customer service before I take reviewing this hotel on every social media platform and start an official complaint with the financial ombudsman. Ruined my stay
Run down Dump of a hotel. Looks good in pictures and thats it. De Vere CHERNOBYL
Booked an Executive room, was given superior room, when questioned about this was told they do not have executive rooms,. Then i contacted Booking.com and they told Booking.com they had put me in a Executive Room. This Hotel's Staff are prepared to lie to your booking agent. I then sent a copy of my invoice to Booking.com that clearly showed the room i was given was a superior room. It did not have a double sink bathroom of any of the room extras like bathrobes, slippers etc. We were given a room on 3rd floor but i suspect the forth floor were really the superior rooms as the lounge was on the 4th floor. Spoke to the Manager (Might as well have been talking to someone from a Street Market in Calcutta), total waste of time. De Vere were once a good Hotel Chain but now bottom of the pile rubbish, and untrustworthy. If they will bold face lie to your agent, well what more is there to say. Shoddy run down low class hotel and you would be very foolish to book a convention in this place, it will leave your company looking shoddy like the venue. Reservation Number 2527044901
Poor communication
Booked a night through their website but as website was not very informative, sent them a message through Facebook regarding facilities. Waited over a week and still no response.
Very Disappointing at DeVere Cotswold Water…
June 2021 - We stayed at DeVere Cotswold Water Park, near Cirencester. Lovely setting surrounded by many lakes and lovely views, Very nice room, offer we had was priced very reasonably for a 4 star hotel. Unfortunately the good news ends there. The service was average to poor. The breakfast was very poor, there using Covid for lack of egg choice (Scrambled only) no mushrooms and the coffee machine produced only cold to Luke warm Lattes, which we complained about the two days we were there & told by other customers they were the same two days previously!! Nothing was done to correct this. The bath filled up when you had a shower & the door handle to the bathroom was barely hanging on (I fixed it myself).DeVere Hotels used to be excellent ( used to go regularly over 10 years ago). My verdict now is Overpriced and Overated. A glass of Red Wine £10? for a make that costs £6 to £7 a bottle. Shocking.
DeVere Hotels.. Please note if you don’t update and reduce prices, you will not be here in 10 years time. Very Disappointing experience. Stayed June 8th & 9th June 2021. One Excellent idea if you do go here, you must go to eat at the Thai Restaurant at Cricklaide (about 10 minutes by Taxi). Only a fairly small restaurant but the food is beautiful, and excellent value for money, best Thai restaurant food I have ever had. Taxi (Private Hire) to use that was excellent Taylens of Cricklaide, lovely Ladies excellent service.
I worked for this company in Spain
I worked for this company in Spain. I was flown out for a 1 week course after having my application accepted. I was a gardener before I worked for deVere. Haha. No skills or qualifications in the finance industry, not that I needed them of course and I was plonked by the sea and instructed to advise on people's hard earned pensions and life savings! I was told to tell people there were huge benefits of bringing their pensions abroad into things like QROPS and SIPP schemes. I was told to tell people that deVere was one of the largest "INDEPENDENT" financial consulting company in the world. Independent my ar*e! The truth is though, when you actually get a client interested in transferring their pension there is only 1 company you can offer. STM MALTA, reason is because Nigel Green, the CEO of deVere is the majority share holder in STM Malta! Yep, you read it right!
I would go to the office regularly and see my fellow salesman all bragging about the amount of business they have. All these guys have no clue about finance and all were either ex kitchen salesman or just convincing enough to sell themselves to the manager, which wasn't particularly hard as the manager knew that every new salesman would mean he got 15% of their business. Haha!
As you can imagine, having so many unqualified, unintelligent baboons working under one roof, mistakes are going to be high! Yep, paperwork not filled out properly, etc etc! Dont worry about that, all signatures are scanned on mac pcs and copied onto any documents that weren't signed or the salesman "FORGOT" to get signed. Yep, you guessed it, thats your waiver form he "FORGOT" to get signed! Oh wait, its signed now! Huh?
deVere gives you all the crap about how you can earn huge money but if you fail its all your fault as you were not motivated enough to do so. Truth is, deVere has a terrible name and most people don't trust them one bit. You now have smaller outfits made up of deVere ex workers who are taking deVeres business bit by bit. deVeres days are numbered and thats good as the only thing they are good at is conning people to work for them with false prevado and getting those people to con clients to invest their money.
I had a friend who I went on the 1 week course with and he was based in Muscat, he lost his job not long after he got it. deVere lost their licence and closed the office. They didn't pay anyone and left people stranded in Muscat with their young families. The company is an absolute disgrace!
I personally lost £100k working for deVere and from day 1 I had no help whatsoever. I was expected to fund everything you could imagine and I beg anyone who is thinking of working for them, especially if you have a family and thinking of emigrating, DONT! DO NOT WORK FOR DEVERE!!!!
Find another company!
I have tried to cancel a booking on my…
I have tried to cancel a booking on my De Vere account bookings for the Horwood Hotel and it will not let me so I have emailed via the De Vere website 12 times over the last few weeks, they state on their site they will reply back 24 to 72 hours, Nothing, I am not impressed with this type of service and if I am charged for not arriving at the hotel at the end of this month, I will not be pleased.
Awful place
Awful place, customer services are much to be desired.
Drank broken glass that was in my glass to be offered another night stay.
Avoid at all Costs
DeVere Horwood Estate-Bletchley Pk. Offer
Cheaper to book hotel/dinner/Bletchley tickets separately, including superior rooms despite under consumer law any "offers" being required to have a genuine reduction/benefit. Paid more for a small room, dreadful dinner-50 mn wait between starter and main course-along with the other diners-not the servers fault as there were no meals to serve. Info suggests hotel offers a "fine dining " experience- simply an area of the large restaurant allocated for dinner. Breakfast was fine, although I have attended a 3 day conference there when they continually ran out of food at breakfast/lunch and dinner-resulting in long queues and limited choice. Was sent an email by hotel before stay asking if there was anything they could help with-raised pricing issue-no reply. They sent another email on return asking how it was,so detailed the complaints-no reply, now realise this is their standard company method-they have no customer services and ignore complaints, hence the 1* . We have had several mini breaks in various Hotel chains around the UK this year and this was the worst for value and quality and especially customer service.
Went back for a second time with our…
De Vere Tortworth
Went back for a second time with our children as we were given a free night from a previous poor visit
It's now worse than last time
Was meant to have superior room with interconnecting twin room
We were given a standard twin with beds pushed together
Big chip in the bath, toilet rusty inside. Rubbish still under the draw in the room.
Ordered lamb in the restaurant, medium. Was over totaly over cooked and rubbery, dauphinoise potatoes were like milky mash potatoes!
Steam room falling apart, wall moved when you sat on the chairs and very unsafe
Sauna not very hot and the pool had way to much chlorine in it so eyes very sore
It might have nice grounds but very poorly maintained
De Vere Beaumont Hall
De Vere Beaumont Hall , Windsor - Nice Venue but the accommodation is very poor. On one of the the hottest weekend, we had a family wedding there where we had probably booked 50 rooms yet many of the room had no fans that were working and rooms were of poor standard. The numbering of the blocks and rooms is a nightmare and they need to have an easier way to sign-post the rooms and everyone was confused on how to get to their rooms. They had a strange numbering system where rooms were not in any logical order and you could spend ages finding your room.
Sort it out as you will lose customers.
De Vere Oxford Thames - Misleading and Disappointing
We booked into the De Vere Oxford Thames hotel for their New Years Eve package. The package details sounded enticing and we had high expectations. The package started with 'Afternoon Tea'. We have experienced countless afternoon teas at leading hotels but never one like this. It comprised of tea and coffee urns with a variety of fancy cakes. We and many other guests had anticipated a variety of finger sandwiches and savouries, a selection of scones, followed by cakes, pastries and desserts. This was not 'afternoon tea' in the recognised sense and the advertising was misleading. In the early evening when guests gathered for dinner, 'champagne' and canopies were to be served. Unfortunately the 'champagne' wasn't - instead they served Belstar Cuvee Rosé Sparkling, Once again the published product was not served. We must admit the canopies were excellent. The dinner itself was of a reasonable standard although the beef fillet was quite fatty. Our room was of a good standard and service generally was excellent. This hotel must ensure that they serve what they advertise and not use a cheaper substitute.
Great staff!
Stayed at Dunston Hall, Norwich. Staff couldn't have been any more helpful. Rooms dated but clean and fantastic value for money on the rate we got through Expedia. Would definitely use De Vere hotels again
Non-existent responses to complaints
DeVere may well have lots of offers on their rooms, but their Marketing department (where complaints go to) is useless. Despite complaining to the hotel and to the marketing department and on Facebook, no-one has had the coutresy to reply.
I guess it explains it if they use a marketing dept for complaints, rather than a customer service department.
Go there when they are cheap, and have low expectations of any complaints being rectified and you won't be disappointed. Shame as they have some nice locations.
OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED
Was taken to Cameron House Hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond for an overnight stay by my partner who had booked this to help me relax due to my workload. Found the experience put me off the place. Check in was fine, Went to our room which we thought was really homely although there were no bath robes which we didnt notice until going for a swim in the pool next morning. This could do with being cleaned up {having worked in a pool} as around the rim was quite grubby. Next went for a drink in the bar where we stood for around ten minutes before deciding to go for a walk as the staff were so slow even though the place was very quiet. Got a drink in the bar by the lake but found the price a little OTT i guess they think your paying for the experience or are just a rich tourist. After that went to bed where i didnt sleep a wink as the bed is made up of two matresses which are meant to be zipped together, ours were not, also one matress was well used and dipped in the middle and the other higher. To top it all i went through the middle of the beds in the middle of the night. In the morning had breakfast which was very nice one of the good points. On check out reported this to reception and was assured someone would contact me regarding our stay. Alas we are still waiting so for this reason i am writing this review.
