Received a PCN from Dart charge despite having never used the crossing. The 'evidence' they send you in the post is a black and white grainy picture the size of a postage stamp in which you cannot even see the number plate let alone read it. The only thing I could tell from the picture was it was not my car and a completely different colour.
When I raised a challenge against the PCN, as per the website instructions I had to provide lots of evidence. The irony, I asked could they please provide a clear image of the number plate.
The challenge was rejected saying I had not provided evidence that I had reported my number plate a being cloned. Firstly I never said it had, as there is no image of the number plate.
When I eventually found a number to call and complain which takes ages to get through to the right team and to be answered, I got the same response, that I needed to provide evidence I had reported my number plate as cloned......
After much frustration, I flipped this on its head and said I needed to provide a clear picture showing the cloned car in order to report it. The assistant put me on hold when she looked to get this. After some delay she came back and said the PCN was now cancelled...
She would not confirm why but it was quite obvious that once she saw a clear image it was simply not my numberplate.
What a waste of time and effort and also lost revenue from whoever's car it was who probably found themselves unable to pay.
Also if the PCN is issued with a decent image, or the ability to view the image on the website this would all be sorted.

My top upcharge increase
My top up charge was increased from the agreed £10 to £15.When queried was told ‘you were emailed in July 25”.Was I???
I was also told we no longer do £10 top ups.
Attitude of staff was just like like the company,take it or leave it.
No consideration of how much they hold in credit on you if your usage is minimal.Absolute bullies.Come on Martin Lewis stick up for the old sods who hardly ever use the service but need to be in credit,in case they have to travel and forget to pay.

Asked to be put through to customer service was passed through no one answered but I listened and recorded the office conversation for 40 minutes but still no reply
Dart charge scammers
Just closed my account with them and they took £10 of the £14 as administration charge. I closed my account because automatic payment doesn't work. They also fail to show crossings on their site so that the charge isn't automatically taken. Absolute scammers and to think the government is involved in this is disgraceful. Better off manually paying the charge people. Don't let the sammers steal your money and issue PCNs fraudulently.
PCN for them not doing their job
I had an account with them and made daily crossings for work purposes. WHen i removed the car reg number from the account in order to added to the company account i received a PCN. Reason being, even though i had enough money in the Dartford account, they only take payments the second day at 00:00. I crossed on the 21st of may, removed the vehicle from the account on the 22nd of may at approx 15:00 and received 2 No penalty notices for crossing on the 21st at 06:20 and 18:20.
Basically, if you need to cross the bridge/tunnel daily, you cannot close your account or remove your vehicle from it or you will receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
When i called, the answer was # This is the way the system works#. Apparently I should have coordinated with my company better to put my car from my account into theirs (the company) whithin minutes. This would have prevented the PCN.
In their eyes, it is normal for us (the population) to sort it out within minute or at least the same day, but for them, this is just hou the system works.
This seems to be just a scheme to catch people out in order to get more £££ from penalty charges.
Completely Unnaceptable.
Corrupt company running this crossing
Everything to do with this crossing is a con! For a crossing that makes £millions a year they cannot get a working website to save their lives. The system is setup to confuse. To close your account, to lock you out. To make you cross so they can fine you, to STEAL your hard earned money.
I’m entitled to a local residents discount scheme. I cross varying amounts. Could be 10 days in a row then not again for 6 months, Based on bad treatment. I try to log in before every crossing to cover myself. And I can’t get in, it tells me a random code is coming but never comes, for the 8th time my account has been made dorment by them. Without telling me. To trick me to fine me. I needed to cross today. Lost 1.5 hours trying to solve this. Gave up and am now stuck in london traffic as I couldn’t cross.
It’s corrupt, it’s criminal. It needs shutting down. Trading standards need to investigate whoever runs this urgently

Car broke down before we went to the crossing so swapped cars and paid another £5 charge.
Tried to contact them but their system had gone down while we were doing the crossing. Big thing all over the news. So of course their phone lines were busy for the longest time. Forgot about it after the holiday and emailed them when I sold the car and put the new cars number plate on the system and asked for a refund for the £5. They sent a generic email “A credit remains available for a period of 12 months, this is mentioned in ther terms and conditions of the Dart Charge.
We apologise for any inconvenience.”
So I got scammed out of my money for a trip that the other car never completed. Ridiculous that your money only stays on their system for 12 months. I have had an Oyster card for 17 years and I still have credit on that from before the pandemic.
Typical government scamming their own again.
Dartford advance account top-up (interest free loan to the Government)
The Government appears to think it ok to STEAL Dartford Crossing account-holders' money from their bank accounts, in respect of demanding a minimum £10 balance on one's crossings account. In effect this is stealing. No interest appears to be payable on the monies stolen by this method by the Department of Transport, and it is, in effect, an interest-free loan to them. I live far from the Dartford crossing and use it infrequently, as must many others, and probably only spend about £10 a year on the crossing. I am not in the business of giving interest-free loans to the Government. How much money has the Department of Transport in its coffers from similarly placed drivers? A million Dartford crossing accounts would boost the Government's coffers by £10m, 10m accounts by £100m. I was given "notice" that my account would be debited. That notice was on 10 December and timed at 03.30 in the middle of the night. (Who looks at their Dartford account in the small hours in order to check it?) My account was debited at 04.47, an hour and 17 minutes later. This is exceedingly "sharp practice" on the part of the Government. On the last crossing I made on 8th December, the traffic was at a complete standstill for half an hour or so, with no explanation on the gantries or traffic reports. People were posting on Facebook, asking was the cause of the hold up. Not good enough.

WOW!! The negative reviews here are such that I am genuinely surprised that there has been no solid media intervention with regards to this, perhaps the media feels that it is best not to rock the 'Gov.com' boat for their own interests, but wow! what a travesty of the state of corrupt Britain, especially with knowledge that the QE2 bridge had been fully paid up since 2002? And that the revenue produced yearly (in 2022 alone the crossing generated '£200,000,000'm). With the cry from the DoT, "But we have maintenance costs" ok, fair enough, lets by way of a freedom of information request establish what those maintenance charges actually are? As a commercial site manager, I would suggest that the maintenance charges are paltry compared to the generated revenue.
Even given the above, like myself, people who genuinely made several attempts to pay this charge but were unable to due to DoTs own system being 'not working'! I was unable to pay this charge whilst on holiday, on the day of my return to the UK, I paid the requisite £3 fee over the phone, therefore it's easy to see that at no point was I intending to avoid payment, so you would think that given the emails of attempted payment at the time, proof of phone payment upon my return and subsequent letter of mitigation to the DoT one would assume that the issue would have been resolved, and I would say that in a court, I would have substantial mitigating proof that I had genuinely attempted to pay this amount, and did pay the amount, but oh no, this was not enough for a government department who I would say, regularly use 'bully boy'
tactics to claim more money from regular motorists knowing full well that there are no solid means of court jurisdiction that motorists can use to fight their corner against the UK government which is, and has been for many years, a nasty little dictatorship.
Of course I'll pay their dictatorship fine which has dropped through my letterbox of now £108!! But people who know me, know that once bitten, I never fall for the same nonsense twice, and what a nonsense it is! A bridge built in the name of our late queen which I will never use again, instead of driving from J27 to Dover, I'll be almost driving the full 360 of the M25 in the opposite direction (and yes, I,ll be doing this from now on) wasting fuel/time and increasing pollution.
This was the reason the bridge was built was it? You really couldn't make it up, due to corruption, no one wants to use the bridge! Well done DoT! An own goal as far as I'me concerned, DoT, you will never receive another crossing payment from me, even if it does put another hour on my journey, well done!
The media really does need to investigate the DoT and motorists like myself who have been completely wronged by an absolutely corrupt government body.
Just a footnote here: I can see that there has been no response by the DoT to 'any' of the complaints here on trust pilot, what disgusting arrogance by the DoT..UK
government!
UPDATE:
The DOT payment company finally conceded and accepted the fact that I had now paid the dart crossing...twice, and recindered the PCN notice. My advice is to be very careful how drivers consider the dart charge crossing payment as the default position of the DOT is to fine first and not think at all.
Backward and of Limited Capabilities
A really low opinion and value of customers. Robotic customer service agents with little or no training and capabilities. The senior leadership team oversee an operation that provides little or no value to customers and I'd love to know what their actually accountable for because it clearly isn't customer experience

Even after paying they continue to threaten and harras your you with penalties. Rip off Britain but sadly true. How is it even legal that you should pay by midnight of the day of your crossing.

I used the Dartford crossing in October last year...and paid on time. In May this year I received a Notification at my home address in Spain saying I hadn't paid and now owed £72.50. I was unable to trace the payment through available bank statements or emails so reluctantly decided to pay the charge. I am now told this hasn't been paid either and this was 'confirmed ' by Dart Charges' debt collection scammers EPC.plc. Why on earth are these collections farmed out to foreign based companies who steal and profiteer from hundreds of thousands of innocent UK motorists a year?

BROKEN BRITAIN. Account payment doesn't work. Pre payment doesn't work. Complaints ignored. Subject Access Request ignored. I give up. Will pay for each crossing in future and will keep a copy of the receipts.
I drive extensively abroad and pay tolls without any problems. Come to Britain and get fined. And ruin your car on pot holes!
