We have been served by Amber for a couple of reasons over the last few years, firstly dealing with our late fathers estate and recently sorting our Wills out. Amber is professional, kind, courteous and efficient at all times. Always explaining things clearly and simply and corresponds with great regularity.

We needed to update our Wills, and also to set up new Powers of Attorney. Annabel Burchett guided us through, making it easier than we anticipated. With her professional high standards Annabel made everything understandable, including step by step updates. Brethertons were instructed to chase an overdue service fee from the managing agents of my flat. I was actually in conversation with the managing agents but they hadn’t noted down one of my calls, as soon as I received the letter i realised something had gone awry and I spoke to my managing agents and sorted the debt repayment with them directly.

I then called Brethertons to try to resolve the issue of their charges. They wanted to charge me £678 for one letter! After much debate they agreed to drop it to £478. I agreed to pay this off monthly. They then put another £240 admin fee on top for this arrangement! I explained a my genuine reasons that I was in a financially challenging situation and offered to borrow the money to pay less in one go. I was told their client had instructed them to not take less. I phoned my management company who said that was untrue.

In the end I wrote with a proposal and this was accepted. But I am still shocked at how a company takes advantage of people in financially challenging situations by charging extortionate fees and creating leverage for themselves with £240 admin fees to set up a direct debit arrangement. Totally unethical.

After my son and his former partner went their separate ways, Emma and Zoe worked tirelessly to bring about the Transfer of Equity so that he could keep his flat. There was a lot of paperwork but they worked diligently and kept us up to date.
We are very pleased with the service we received, as well as the service from Josh Russell who also worked his magic to negotiate a settlement that was acceptable to us. I would not hesitate in recommending Bretherton's.

Please don't use this company if you have a complex case.
We did as we needed litigation advice in a hurry, that was in 2018, it started well and was OK until after covid.
Our case is still ongoing and is a multi party case. Everyone else in the claim has had the same solicitor throughout, we have had five.
I don't know what that says about the company compared to others.
The final straw was in August when the Claimant’s suggested settlement, the letter arrived at the company but nobody found it for days, then we had a Trainee tell us with the evidence they had it, was a good offer and we should settle. There is no evidence, if we had settled at that point we would be minus our house.
Instead we said forget it we will find other advice. Instead we wrote to the Claimant’s back in September to ask for all the evidence, since then nothing has happened, but we currently still have a house.
I think this case was beyond them from the beginning and it would of been helpful if they had said that. Instead we are £11,000 down and no further forward than we were when it all started.

Overcharging. Avoid if you don`t wanna be ripped off. They`re scamming tenants even without guilty conscience.

The Fixed Price Divorce service from Brethertons provides excellent value for money. The small team are very professional and caring and treat you as an individual. You have to recognise that the team often require the specified 10 day turn around to get back to you but when they do guide you well through what can seem quite a daunting process.

From the first contact my matter has been handled professionally and sympathetically in all aspects. Explanations have been clear, responses have been timely. I have always felt like a human being looked after by other humans, rather just another number and a robot. This is very much appreciated. I would highly recommend.

My case had been handled unprofessionally. It took almost 5 months from taking my case until my Consent Order was submitted to Court. There are so many mistakes and lack of care that has been made by the Solicitor who is dealing with my case, from making incorrect names on D81 to failure to inform how to send documents and collect them from my ex-husband, and failure to provide all necessary information. These issues can easily be avoided if there are efficiency procedures in place and professionalism you expected from the law firm.
I had first contacted them on April 9, and the solicitor who acted on my behalf was appointed on Apr 26, 2024. I have signed and sent off all documents on May 10, and I presumed that my case has been submitted to court in June, instead it was submitted sometime at the end of Aug 2024.
The only time I heard from the solicitor was regarding the FMH sale on July 11 and I did not have any update nor reply from my email sent on July 12 nor my emails asking for an update on my case on July 29. I sent another email on Aug 1 and received a CC email on Aug 5 sending to my ex-husband stating that no documents have been received by them. In the end I have to pay an extra £5 for the court fee as the fee has gone up since I paid this amount back in April. Moreover, it took me another week since she obtained all the documents as she failed to provide an invoice number in order to pay extra court fee.
I am very disappointed with them and hope they will review my case and make some improvements.

Awful divorce experience; don't respond to emails, they send generic stock emails that aren't personal- don't expect answers to your questions. They ask for information already provided and give misleading or incomplete (wrong) advice/ instructions. They also need prompting for them to take action; waited weeks for them to email a document until I called and got them to send it.

I was a little apprehensive when approaching the firm, as I thought it would be a firm that only cares about the charges. I was very wrong indeed. Dominic wisdom and Mel Haslam has been amazing. It was a very daunting time for myself and my children, but from the first consultation with Dominic I felt so supported. He listened and advised and I felt very respected. He understood the challenges we we were facing and gave honest advice. Both Dominic and Mel was so empathetic and understanding. It was like talking to trustworthy friends. They both showed such professionalism and at the same time would always be there for you. So there was never the stress of call chasing. Dominic always responded promptly and each time it felt like he has taken some of the stress of your shoulders. I am so grateful for their support.
