Excellent experience

Had a bike fit with Claire and she was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She has also been happy to help and responded very quickly to all my follow up questions

If you seek perfection, Denver is the guy!

I was recommended to see Denver, and boy, it wasn’t a disappointment. He seeks the finest details as you’d expect from any experienced fitter, and exposed things I thought were normal. He does make you feel at home, and we talked about other things apart from bike fit. Would highly recommend this gentleman as I was and never regretted it. Thank you, Denver, because of you, I can enjoy my cycling again without pain. God bless.

Apex bike fitting

Absolute peak knowledge and execution of a bike fit way beyond what already were very high expectations. Also, the experience is fun and the hosting is superb. Two years of bike problems solved in one session by James. Completely recommended.

It started with a bike fit by James...

It started with a bike fit by James and ended with an amazing custom Festka. The team at Bicycle walked me through the entire process for the frame design working closely with Festka and the build specifications. I went for a custom colour which Festka matched perfectly. I couldnt be happier with the new bike, Bicycle provided fantastic customer service and the new bike collection day was memorable. They also do amazing coffee too

Excellent customer focused service

I booked a bike fitting with Claire, one of the team of fitters. I wanted to check my current bike fit now that I was older, but also with a view to buying a new bike.
Overall the experience was excellent. A three hour session included full measurements and testing out on their fitting jig. The ethos of the shop is very much on the rider and not selling you a bike. But as I was in the market for a new bike Claire guided me to options for a range of budgets and followed up quickly with both my full dataset of measurements and more info on the bikes we discussed. Can’t recommend the level of service highly enough.

1st class service end to end

1st class service end to end. This was a really fantastic experience, full of information, banter, help and support. I've had other bike fits, but this was by far the best. I really wish I'd been to see James sooner. His guidance and advice has helped me resolve issues from head to toe, and my comfort/performance on the bike has improved as a result. Highly recommended

my first bike fit - great experience, highly recommended

my first bike fit - I was made to feel comfortable and at ease. Dan's session with me was thorough covering my physiology, cycling preferences, and aspirations.

At no point pushy, more like a collaboration in trying to ensure my cycling is optimised, can improve, and continue for many years to come.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I've learnt a lot about my bike, my physique and mobility, I've got some minor modifications to make to my bike in the coming months, but it is a project I can chip away at to improve my experience.

Went for a Shoe Fit. Had a Revelation.

I went to Bicycle to see what size my feet were, to get advice on the right shoes, and ultimately, purchase some. I met with Andy, who was wonderful. He sized my feet - shock, one is a size bigger than the other, I have slightly wide feet and higher than average arches. I did not know this - and recommend a model of Lake shoes and some insole support, which fit wonderfully. I purchased a pair and walked out extremely satisfied with the experience. Andy is a sweet guy and a real pleasure to deal with. Thanks, team!

If carlsberg did bike fits...

I had a bike fit earlier this year , but I thought I would leave my review after settling into my new position.

The fit was very detailed and structured. I have had fits before and it has just felt as though I was another number going through the mill in 60mins...in and out - here's your data - that's your fit. Here I was made to feel like an individual, with my specific needs recieving the attention. I didn't even get on the jig until after 60mins! The first hour was spent asking me questions and assessing my flexibility, gait and past injuries etc. Knowing this now, I understand why past fits have not worked for me - how can a bicycle fit work if the right questions aren't asked??

Value for money, as fits go this is not cheap, but as the saying goes..... Buy cheap, buy twice. This is certainly true in my experience. My appointment was for 3 hours - we over ran, past the shop's closing time, at no pint did I feel rushed or under any pressure that we needed to wrap things up.

I used to get tingling fingers and toes within a very short distance. Now I can comfortably ride 100km+ at an easy pace , enjoying the scenery and getting lost in my thoughts without thinking about ways to alleviate the discomfort!!

Highly recommended. Thank you. Great coffee (at no extra charge!!)

Inept - Avoid

This company talks a good talk, in particular online via various videos, but as with anything, the proof is in the results.

So many people experience problems cycling with all kinds of aches and pains. Speak to people and look online and you will find an endless stream of comments surrounding this. Often unilateral, but also bilateral: back pain, hip pain, knee pain, foot pain, wrist pain, neck pain - it goes on and on.

Why? Bike fit - yes of course, but equally as important, human asymmetry and the way you as an individual want to biomechanically function. You aren't symmetrical, even if you think you are, and it then depends as to what degree you aren't, and in turn, how this translates to a symmetrical device - the bike. The more you aren't, the harder it becomes to attain a higher level of performance and there is direct correlation to a large degree. Your body will only compensate for so long at a certain level. Be it 3w/kg or 5+w/kg.

In my experience of the fitting, whilst biomechanics are a complex subject, and in particular when you introduce a bike being involved, this company doesn't seem to fully grasp this simple concept of asymmetry, even when you tell them about it initially. They even do simple tests themselves to highlight it during the fit.

My asymmetry? Fractionally smaller right foot with external rotation/toe out, right foot supination, opposing side more pronated, right leg possibly functionally short, ct scans for leg length shown with only 1mm variation in overall length, but minor variations in femur and tibia lengths between sides, possible bilateral hip impingement of some form but not yet medically verified - worse right side. Directly believed to be linked with a lack of internal rotation bilaterally. All my words - not theirs. They could see for themselves to some degree?!

The above is not uncommon and many people have such imbalance - they likely aren't aware of some as ct scans are costly for example. The problem? This doesn't translate well to a bike clipped in unless adaptations are made or you are 'corrected' - this could be via an operation on your hip for example to remove an impingement.

The fit itself? Absolutely no effort made whatsoever to try and cater for the asymmetry mentioned above outside of the smallest change in heel wedges between sides. Nothing done with crank length to try and get around the impingement, nothing done with stance width, nothing done with bar height outside of a small change, a foot that wants to be slightly externally rotated instead placed into internal rotation via the cleats (awful idea given the confirmed lack of internal rotation), nothing done via shim stacks to help with what appears to be a functionally short right side, nothing done to cater for the slightly smaller right foot with cleat fore/aft - further back, split difference between l/r or exactly the same across each shoe (debate around all 3 options - not tested). The list goes on.

The result after the fit: 20 mile ride at low intensity - Left side anterior knee pain in the form of mild patellar tendinitis (likely due to low saddle height), right hip still not accounted for and right side lateral ankle pain probably due to the internally rotated cleat.

A complete waste of your time and money if you are remotely serious about cycling and suffer with asymmetry.

To add further insult, the Lake shoes that were sold to me at a high cost failed on a bolt hole on the 3rd set of cleats fitted. They tried to blame me for cross threading (guessing again) without even inspecting the shoes and despite the fitter not using grease or a proper torque wrench to tighten the bolts initially, nor every time he kept messing around with them seemingly guessing at what he needed to do. Over the last few years, tens of thousands of miles (road+trainer) and from brands such as Sidi, Shimano and Fizik, I've never had a bolt hole fail. 2 year warranty with Lake rejected after well under a year and barely any use.

Avoid.

Update: The shoes 'alone' (when working) are good, it's fair to say. They fit well. The initial e-mail sent in response to the fit they have quoted is truthful. The problem is that it was after a very short distance test ride. Whilst there was improvement, over a longer distance (still short), problems persisted (part worse). They aren't mentioning the phone call I made weeks later to confirm things were still not right. Not worth going back. No blackmail, just disappointment, I quote - 'I don't want to have to go through my bank for chargebacks as the process takes months with you having to prove the item was fit for purpose as I understand it (this particular pair aren't as far as I'm concerned). Legal route wouldn't be worthwhile?'

Feel free to check Strava showing how I no longer ride due to all the above unfixed issues 03/07/24.

Your comments regarding the fit appear to be a purposeful attempt to blackmail us into replacing the shoes for you.

This behaviour is inappropriate.

Your Lake shoes were declined under warranty replacement by the manufacturer. The defect you described would have been apparent at point of purchase. Your warranty for the product is with Lake shoes not with us.

As a goodwill gesture we offered you a significant discount on a replacement pair, which far exceeded Lakes' standard replacement price, which you have declined.

You have proceeded to attempt to blame us privately via email and publicly on this review for fitting them incorrectly despite you clearly identifying that this is the third set of cleats fitted to the shoes.

We fail to understand if this damage was caused by us: how the 2nd set of cleats were fitted fine by yourself and only now on the third set, you are having issues.

You have also threatened us via email with credit card charge backs, and legal intervention. As we have not submitted to your demands, you have decided to publicly criticise the bike fit despite this never being part of your complaint.

Please see the comments made by you in an email to your fitter on the 22nd of October 2023:

"Rode today and everything so much better - right foot felt almost plugged into the pedal compared to normal. I didn't even need to adjust the BOAs once setup"

"I should add that today I had no neck pain, no shoulder pain and didn't experience any shoulder hunching".

Your communication with us until your final email discussed no displeasure with the fit and was only in relation to the shoe warranty.

One of the worst fits ever and they seem very childish.

I wasn't gonna say anything about bicycle but after hearing I wasn't the only one I thought I would inform others about my fit experience.

Like many people I choose bicycle because of certain people on youtube and also from a friend who had a fit. previously. So I thought I would go for it based on those factors.

I have purchased a pair of shoes from them in the past the experience was ok but we are reviewing overall my bike fit experience not my shoe fit.

This is not the first bike fit I have had so I played around with my numbers overtime. But I came for a fit like many people because I had pain of some kind.

So I came in with a certain position and bought both of my bikes. My road bike (Which was the one I wanted to be fitted on) and my track bike (Which I have a lot less issues in the past but I just wanted to see if the saddle was in the right place.)

The first thing that was said was my position was 'way too aggressive ' I understand that the majority of people can't ride a aggressive position but I don't fit into that group of people. I am happy I only came in about my road bike and didn't get them to look the whole fit for my track bike.

So my definition of comfort is the absence of pain my position might of looked aggressive but my body type and range of motion I am always going to be in a aggressive position.

So when they get you in they ask about you and your riding and level and do everything as they do in a fit.

Everything is about feedback so they require your input too. But the idea is that you and the fitter work out a position. If you have a fit there should be something you a least learn about yourself. Honestly I didn't learn a thing.

The first red flag should of been about my TT/Kilo position. Bear in mind I have been aerotested but after hearing that a kilo position should be a certain way copying certain people. I should of run out screaming quoted by a certain person.

But by looking at my road bike the fitter thought my saddle was too high. Which I understand because that's a common thing with a lot of customers but I happened to be in range. But the fitter was very focused on saddle pressure and where I was sitting on the but didn't seem to fix the problem.

Things were never explained completely why things were done and never figured out why I was sitting saddle like I was how I was.

There were things missed about my body but instead to giving me advice about working on that I was made upright. The issues didn't seem like they were fixed it felt like I was put into a cookie cutter position. Just putting a band aid you may say instead of fixing the problem.

I did ask if my bike was too big for me. I was told yes and I asked about bikes that were suited towards me and surprise I was reccomended endurance bikes. Although I was cramped in the setup they put me in. I was told this was to reset my body from the 'agressive' setup I have been used to riding on. I had a detailed look of the bikes I was recommended when I got home to compare to what I currently have. This didn't seem to make sense how my bike was too big for me.

I decided to be open minded about it but the ride ended up riding and feeling like trash and just did my own adjustments.

Apperently I am not the only one that has been put into a position like that which didn't match their riding type or body limitations.

I understand they work on feedback during a fit but I was told by the fitter that I was riding like I was trying to get lower.

I ended up not going back. I think they charge you to go back so I thought I would be better off doing adjustments myself.

Would I recommend getting fit by Bicycle? If you want a 'upright possition' or Tao possibly but not everyone requires a upright setup and I am one of those people. I would go to a fitter that is more open minded than thinking everyone should be riding a endurance bike. Because bike fitting is very individual and upright doesn't always equal to comfort it's more complicated that that.

Update I ended up going to a different fitter because they didn't advertise they did free follow up. My flexibility was good and the so called extreme agressive position that I had was roughy in the right space. There were tweaks that were needed. They also said that 12cm+ drop which has not valve without any factors was very agressive. However I am running more than that now and I am not having issues. They seem to fail to know why I was getting back issues and just said a blanket reason without anazlizing my body properly.

I also posted a story on instrgram on my track bike saying 'not bad for someone who has poor flexibility' and got blocked by them for saying it.

Do you want to deal with a company like that? If I knew what they were like I wouldn't have.

Atiba,

We are deeply saddened to hear about the how you felt about your fitting session. Your experience is not inline with many other clients who have visited us and is below our expectations. It is a shame that you did not reach out to us prior to writing this review.

We do offer free of charge follow up appointments should we not be able to address an issues in the single session. We understand that the body is complex and not all issues can be resolved within a three hour session.

Whilst we appreciate your self diagnosis of not fitting into the category of “the majority of people not being able to ride an aggressive position” , we would suggest that the limited range of motion demonstrated in the physical assessment during the session, in addition to the reasons for the bike fit being booked initially: back pain after 20 minutes, amongst other issues, where likely related to the 12cm+ of bar drop and excessive reach on your bike. To address these issues we reduced the bar drop to 9cm with a small saddle height adjustment and by increasing bar height. These changes reduced the excessive frontal saddle pressure as well as a reduction in reach.

A 9cm of bar offset is still considered to be quite aggressive. Looking at your fit report you could comfortably ride a Pinarello Dogma F which is a multiple tour winning racing frame, so we would disagree with your comments about us only fitting people to endurance bikes.

For context we have had many racers including former and current world tour riders who have arrived with less aggressive setups seen on your bicycle, all of whom demonstrated much higher physical ranges of motion.

We have taken your feedback on board, based on the phone call we have had with you after this review was posted and amended our follow up emails to include more information about our follow up services. Perhaps, if this was clearer then any discontent would have been avoided; thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We wish you all the best and hope you continue to enjoy your riding.

Waste of Time, Money and Health

Had a Bike fit with Andy Fenn at Richmond cycles, as I was after a fine tune on my bike prior to a long distance challenge in January. No real issues with the bike but did get some hand numbness and saddle sore after around 80miles and looking to tune the bike for the event. After picking up the bike I took it for a test ride and started to get back and knee pain after 6.5 miles and returned back home, the pain got worse with lumbar and knee pain. Consulting medical and professional advice I removed the components and had to work hard with medical, physio & chiropractor to get back to fitness. This whole ordeal cost me £1125 to Bicycle Richmond, £362 in medical expenses and seriously impacted my health and training.
Bicycle Richmond offered no refund on components or fit, they did offer a follow up fit with James after quite some email exchange, but I am giving this outfit a wide berth.
