For 17 years Cattle Mart
For 17 years, the “cattle mart” atmosphere of our A&E departments has not improved — in many ways, it has become worse. What is happening in 2026 should shame every level of health service management and government oversight.
Why are patients expected to sit for 12+ hours on hard plastic chairs?
If these chairs are acceptable for sick, vulnerable patients, perhaps hospital managers and senior decision-makers should use them in their own offices every day.
Why are A&E waiting rooms still functioning like temporary COVID tents years later?
What was once presented as an emergency measure appears to have become the accepted standard of care.
How has it become normal for patients to receive treatment in chairs instead of beds?
Just before my son’s Leaving Certificate in 2025, he spent 30 hours receiving treatment in a chair. He lost over a stone in a single week. No patient should endure that level of neglect and exhaustion.
Why is there only one chair outside resuscitation in May 2026?
Families waiting through the worst moments of their lives deserve basic dignity and somewhere humane to sit.
Why are ambulance crews forced to queue for trolley space?
It is common to see six or more trolleys lined up waiting for placement. Ambulance staff then have to search for another trolley just to transfer patients. This level of dysfunction delays ambulances from returning to emergency calls and places the public at risk.
Why is there often only one spare trolley available in resuscitation?
In May 2026, we waited nearly two hours because the final trolley had to be kept available for emergencies. This is not safe healthcare delivery.
I have been bringing relatives to A&E departments for 17 years.
It was a hellhole then, and in many ways it is worse now. People who worked hard, paid taxes, and contributed to society all their lives are told they are “lucky” to receive treatment in a chair. That should never be considered acceptable healthcare.
People experiencing mental health crises deserve privacy and dignity.
Hearing vulnerable people openly expressing suicidal thoughts in overcrowded waiting rooms was heartbreaking. They deserve compassionate care in a safe and private environment — not chaos and noise.
Elderly patients are routinely overlooked and neglected.
I cannot count the number of times I have had to help elderly patients while attending with my own relatives — helping them get water, retrieve phones, or attract staff attention. Seeing older people left in soiled clothing or sheets is utterly heartbreaking. They did not choose illness or frailty. The very least they deserve is dignity, humanity, and basic care.
The standard of food provided is appalling.
I have relatives currently admitted in May 2026 and have witnessed the same issues repeatedly over many years, including September 2025. Much of the food is tasteless, inedible, and thrown away. Public hospitals can provide good nutrition — the Rotunda proves that. Poor catering standards should not be accepted as inevitable.
Staff are working in impossible conditions.
Healthcare workers are forced to walk sideways through overcrowded corridors while managing aggression, intoxicated patients, and relentless pressure. It must be an exhausting and distressing environment to work in. Staff deserve far better support and working conditions.
These failures are not new — they reflect 17 years of systemic dysfunction.
This is not simply a staffing issue or seasonal pressure. It is a long-standing systemic failure in healthcare delivery. Patients, staff, and communities are being failed year after year, while the same conditions continue unchecked.
I had my first consultation appointment…
I had my first consultation appointment today in St Lukes Beaumont Hospital regarding radiation today and I can honestly say it was everything a consultation should be. I was seen by Dr Owen Collins, i hope i have spelled Owen correctly, and I can only say he is amazing. I am a firm believer in how you deliver the message and Dr Collins did it perfectly. He explained everything in a nice calm manner and was so informative that he took all my worries away. It is extremely rare to find this high level of Dr to patient communication and he needs to be given credit in the highest level for all I experienced today. He is that ray of sunshine in what can feel likea very dark tunnel and I can never thank him enough for his manner in how he communicated and listened to myself and my daughter. Please keep doing what you are doing Dr Collins as the world needs more fof you. 🙏🙏
I hope I never have to go to Beaumont…
I hope I never have to go to Beaumont Hospital again.
I was admitted for ovarian cyst removal surgery, which became more complicated due to internal bleeding and resulted in me being transferred to ICU. While some of the nurses were kind and caring, my overall experience was marked by poor communication, lack of clarity, and concerning negligence.
At one point, a doctor came to see me and told me I would be going home, only for the nurse to immediately correct her in front of me, explaining that I could not be discharged directly from ICU and would first need to be transferred back to a ward and discharged from there. That interaction alone reflected the level of disorganisation and lack of coordination within the hospital.
Before surgery, I was asked to leave my bag with my phone in the DOSA department. After complications and an ICU admission, NO ONE contacted my emergency contacts to inform them of what had happened. meaning my family and friends had no idea where I was or what condition I was in for several hours.
On discharge, I received only a sick note and prescriptions, no discharge letter, no proper explanation of the procedure, and no instructions on how to care for my stitches or manage my recovery.
For a hospital of this scale, the lack of communication and basic patient care is worrying. Patients should not be left confused about who treated them, what was done during surgery, or how to care for themselves afterwards.
I’m grateful to the nurses who showed kindness, but overall, the level of organisation and aftercare I experienced was deeply disappointing.
Hospital appointment
I was told to go to the main hospital but it turned out I was in the wrong place!! Total farse. Talk about the left hand not knowing what the right is doing!!!!
Terrible service wasted my time!!
My doctors and caredoc sent me to Beaumont hospital as suffering badly with ears headaches sickness and nausea. Waited over 6 hours to be told we don’t have equipment in A&E. I did say why wasn’t I informed when I booked in with 2 triage nurses surely they should know what the hospital can and can’t do surely they replied they are just nurses? They have an ENT department but not connection with A&E. This I find absurd as it’s across the way from them. Then To be told they don’t think I’m an emergency sickened me Absolutely felt unheard shocking experience to be honest
Dont believe what people say
Dont believe what people say, we received amazing care. The doctors and staff of the Richmond ICU are dedicated and compassionate professionals. We cant thank them enough.

My issue is with the women toilets now being unisex... absolutely disgraceful I notice that the men had their male toilets but women toilets are now forced to be shared .... not good enough or safe for girls or women, Christ what has this country turn into.

For the first time ever I would give a 10.
The staff goes beyond their duty of care, they are "warm", caring, empathetic, calm, OMG they are all you would want when you are vulnerable.
Came in for surgery and have nothing negative to say. Thank all of you, what a positive impact you had in my life.
I had the worst experience.
I had the worst experience having to pay privately in a public hospital. I had to use Beaumount to have a tumour removed in the neurosurgery department. There was nowhere else they could do my procedure. In general the care I received was well below any public standard let alone private. I hope I never have to go there again. In particular a staff nurse called Roisin in the Richmond ward should not be working with vulnerable patients after surgery.
A&E dirty
Had the unfortunate experience of having to attend A&E in Beaumont hospital it is dirty and unhygienic they must have no cleaning staff and the nursing staff are friendly and overworked but managment are poor hope never have to back there again

THIS WILL ANGER & UPSET ANYONE WHO…
THIS WILL ANGER & UPSET ANYONE WHO READS.. my mother had early stage dementia and went to see geriatric doctor Alan Moore in Beaumont, she was a lovely lady worked hard all her life but was in a very abusive marriage, she plucked up the courage to tell Dr Alan Moore that my father was raping and abusing her most nights, he would take her into his bed and rape her and put her back in her own bed and tell me she woke up with no knickers again I didn’t know what she meant Anyway Dr Alan Moore seen fit to ask my father and when he said no it was case closed My father lied said his family are all against him and he doesn’t get on with any of us Dr Moore wrote in his report “Poor Mr ## his children are all against him and don’t understand dementia 😡 He went on to sign a critical illness form for my father a man who at that stage hasn’t seen his wife in 3 years
But after the admission of rape he sent her home with him and he mentally tortured her carers where finding her knickers in his bedroom, he went to pub every single day left her alone and one Saturday drunk pulled her out of her bed to rape her he let her fall and broke her wrist & rib, this went on for a year until we as a family me & brother & sister got her into a nursing home and away from him, i contacted Dr Moore told him he should of done more that if i went in said i was raped id never expect him to ask the rapist, he said he done what he was duty bound to do I.E nothing 😡 i went to medical council who are all doctors too so obviously won’t go against one of there own, they said they thought it was managed ok 😡 I said think if it was your mother would it be ok ? This man is an evil abuser.. i took him to court for abuse suffered by all the family Dr Alan Moores name is in my statement, This man raped my sister from a young age got her pregnant and sent alone for abortion he is an evil animal but after the trial he was sent to prison for years for exactly what she told Dr Moore what was happening there is no accountability for any of these doctors from the hospital itself to the HSE to the medical council, if you parent has dementia and sees this doctor don’t trust him
no compassion for special needs
this is an example of how dire and uncaring the hospital is.
as a starter, when i was in a &e a year or so ago, i was seated on a chair for 8 hours suffering badly but then decided that i had to get out as nobody was taking any notice. the next day i was in the mater general , diagnosed with severe sepis and operated on the next day.
but this complaint is about the treatment of my grandaughter who is a special needs girl of 17.
she was sent home from school with sever abdominal pains. a visit to local doctor diagnosed suspected appendicitis and she was taken to beaumont at 1600. apart from taking bloods at some time in the evening, she was told to wait. she sat with her mother on the hard plastic chairs in a &e. she was there from 1600 until nearly 1200 the following day ! was not even provided with a blanket. this is a young girl with sever pain, and a girl who cannot even get through a day without a long sleep. she could not sleep and was not allowed to eat or drink. she did not have a moments sleep.
she eventually had an x ray at around 1200 and a ct scan. nothing was found at at around 2300, she was allowed to go home, still in pain.
all attempts by her mother to get some attention etc were brushed off brusquely. when she finally got a trolley she was below a bright light....and one of her problems is that she is epileptic . her mother kept warning the doctors that she would have a fit, and indeed, she had TWO, one of them quite severe.
overall, the treatment was nothing short of scandalous and it is a sorry sight of our health system.
i doubt anybody will see this and this abuse of a special needs patient will still continue.

Exceptional Care from Physiotherapist…
Exceptional Care from Physiotherapist Laura at Beaumont Hospital
I had the absolute privilege of being treated by Laura, a physiotherapist at Beaumont Hospital, and I cannot praise her highly enough. From the very first session, it was clear that she is not just a professional, but someone who truly cares about her patients on a deeper level.
Laura embodies kindness, patience, and expertise in a way that makes an immediate and lasting impact. She takes the time to listen carefully, ensuring that every concern is acknowledged and every aspect of the treatment is tailored to the individual’s needs. Her approach is not just about physical recovery but about providing genuine support and encouragement, making the entire rehabilitation process feel manageable and even uplifting.
What sets Laura apart is her thoughtfulness and unwavering dedication. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her patients feel comfortable, reassured, and confident in their progress. Even in moments of testing ones patience, her positivity and compassionate nature shine through Her ability to explain exercises and techniques in an easy-to-understand manner demonstrates her exceptional knowledge and communication skills.
It is rare to come across someone in healthcare who not only excels professionally but also treats each patient with such warmth, respect, and genuine care. Laura is a true asset to Beaumont Hospital, and anyone fortunate enough to receive treatment from her is in the best possible hands.
Thank you, Laura, for your outstanding dedication and kindness—you make a real difference in the lives of those you treat!
From A & E
From A & E, right across the board. An absolute disaster. Poor duty of care, limited communication, on patient's condition. Will never step another foot in this hospital !!!

I went to Beaumont a&e because I was suicidal. I sat on a chair all night and was very anxious. I then saw a psychiatric worker she didn't help me she just sent me home. She wouldn't even give me something for anxiety. I left in a terrible state state without getting any help. Avoid Beaumont a&e
