£79 for a 5-Minute Review — Poor Value and Poor Communication
I was disappointed to see Bayfields’ Cheam reply, which in my view contains inaccurate and misleading statements.
They claim costs were explained before and during my appointment — this did not happen. Charges were only mentioned after the very brief review had finished.
They also suggest I had an “outstanding payment” from September 2024. This is completely new to me. I never received any letter, email, or phone call about it. If there truly was an outstanding balance, I would have expected clear communication well before my recent visit. To mention it for the first time only in a public reply to my review feels inappropriate.
The facts remain: my appointment lasted only a few minutes, involved very little, and cost £79. It was the shortest and most expensive contact lens review I have experienced.
Customers deserve clear communication and honesty, not events being rewritten after the fact.

Before and during your appointment, the team at our Cheam practice explained the cost of the contact lens assessment and what it involved - including that the lens was required for just one eye. They also noted that a previous payment from September 2024 for a contact lens check hadn’t been settled, but as a valued Bayfields client, they chose to waive it as a gesture of goodwill.

Eye test only
Well , so far I’ve only had the eye test , by Farah , she was very good and I would recommend her . The only problem is , she diagnosed cataracts and I need surgery , so I haven’t actually experienced the retail side of Bayfields yet .
