At AMOpportunities, we strive to make U.S. clinical experiences accessible to everyone. We offer 250+ clinical experiences in 70+ specialties and subspecialties. We've helped more than 3,600 international medical trainees around the world rotate virtually and in the U.S., obtaining letters of recommendation from U.S. physicians that trainees can use when they apply to the Match. AMOpportunities is the only full-service clinical experience platform built for medical trainees and institutions. Our streamlined marketplace allows individuals to search, apply for, and secure rotations with ease. It also enables institutions to efficiently manage students and set training capacity. When questions do arise, both parties can feel secure knowing they have a dedicated support team for any of their needs. Our in-person rotations allow participants to become part of a functioning healthcare system. Visitors are paired with a physician who, over the course of four or more weeks, shares insight and expertise on the program’s specialty. We offer two types of virtual rotations for international medical students and graduates, including education/research-focused and patient-care virtual rotations. In addition to the following, these multifaceted programs feature merit-based letters of recommendation and financially accessible clinical rotations in the U.S. healthcare system.

I strongly advise against choosing this company. This is based on my personal experience. Before you make the payment, their responses are very prompt. However, after you pay, their replies become extremely slow. Additionally, their instructions for the documents applicants need to submit are unclear. After a long time of submitting your documents, they may tell you that something is not acceptable. After you make the necessary corrections, they take a long time again to inform you that another document is not up to their standards. This results in a continuous waste of time. When you call them, they claim to be busy or say that everything is fine, yet your rotation might start in two weeks, and you still have no idea if your application is approved. You are left in the dark about which hospital you will be applying to and who to contact. Therefore, I want to warn everyone not to choose this company.

Matched withOUT using the AMO LOR

This is an absolute con. They falsely advertise the rotations and should be sued for it. They rope you in by advertising big names and top rated residency programs, but in reality the preceptor has no relation to these infamous universities or residency programs. You will be working with the preceptor in their private clinic and will ONLY observe despite paying extra for malpractice insurance. Also note that most of these 'big names' don't accept IMGs. The desperately sought ‘letter of recommendation’ will NOT have a university/hospital letterhead, it will have the preceptors private clinic letterhead. The sales personnel are worse than car salesmen, quick to respond to your enquiries initially, then ignoring you after you’ve paid. When questioned about the details of any given rotation, their responses are lacking. They are just exploiting vulnerable foreigners who have no insight into the process. AMO had falsely advertised on their website - my rotation was 3 days a week and I barely had 20 hours/week of experience which I paid $2800 for. This was advertised as a 6 day a week placement. LORs are not necessary. I matched with 1 LOR from a university hospital that I arranged when in medical school, 1 character reference and 1 LOR from my home country. I did not even use the AMO fake LOR.

This seems to be the same review you wrote before on Google under a different name. Here is the response we sent there:

“First, congrats on matching! That is a huge achievement, and something we hope happens for all our trainees. Last year, 80.6% of our trainees who attended an AMO rotation and applied for the Match matched into a U.S. residency program, using letters of recommendation they received from their AMO clinical experience. We’re still calculating this year’s results but hope for the same success!

Second, I’m sorry to hear you did not enjoy your clinical experience. I don’t have the details of your rotation so I can’t speak to your specific experience, but I wanted to touch on a few of the points you made in your review.

I apologize you found our customer service lacking. We pride ourselves on supporting our trainees in every step of their experience and providing them with the best service because we know what a commitment it is to travel to the U.S. for a rotation. We will address this with our team.

You’re right—not all of our clinical experiences offer LoRs on hospital/university letterheads, but we don’t advertise as such. You can see on our website that we only tag those that do. All schedules for our clinical experiences are listed on their page. Furthermore, many of our rotations do take place at private clinics. Again, this is something listed on the rotation page. This type of practice is standard in the U.S. healthcare system—many patients visit clinics as opposed to hospitals.

I’d be happy to speak with you so we can address your specific experience and even discuss with your preceptor about his/her rotation. Please email us at success@amopportunities.org. Thank you.”

As mentioned above, I encourage you to reach out to us via email at success@amopportunities.org so that we can discuss your issue. Thank you.

Coach Kellie and Coach Megha went above and beyond to ensure I had the best experience possible during my clinical rotations. Without their support, I wouldn't have gained the invaluable insight and experience I gained through my exposure to the U.S. healthcare system.

My rotations with amo opportunities was…

My rotations with amo opportunities was a great experience and definitely one that changed my direction of my usmle journey. I got very lucky to rotate under Dr.Miller at Windy City orthopedics, one of the highlights was his enthusiasm to teach and discuss every detail of every single patient, and also, previously i have never had a chance to see the progression of a patient and follow up which is quiet important in the field of orthopedics. This clinical experience gave me an opportunity to experience the working of orthopedics in the US and also affirm my decision to continue this path

Exceeded my expectations!

I had a great telemedicine rotation with AMO! It had exceeded my expectations on virtual clinical rotations. I had the chance to participate in interviewing hundreds of patients during my 4-week rotation at Sterling Heights, Michigan. I was also able to have a good grasp of how to use the EMR because we were taught and tasked to properly record the history, PE, diagnosis and management on the EMR under the supervision of the Attending Physician. AMO’s customer service is also great they responded promptly to any questions or concerns that I had all throughout the rotation. Thanks AMOpportunities!

It all happened a month ago but I was…

It all happened a month ago but I was still too sad, tired and frustrated to write anything here.
I started an observership at a dermatology clinic in New York, an experience that I had dreamed since before the pandemic started. I am a dermatologist in Brazil and I had already done another observership at a dermatology office in 2019, arranged with another company.

Anyway, the experience was terrible. The physician and the staff were educated and polite, but the place was very dirty. The physician was very old fashioned, he sad he does not trust in modern medicine and in drugs/pills. But this was not the problem, the main issue was how dirty and deorganized the place was, definitely should be report to the sanitary agencies in USA. I complained and they transfer me to another office BUT it was not a medical office, there was no physicians there ( and I am not talking about the fact that they were not expecting me, they did not know I was coming and etc..), it was a physician assistant office, with no doctors.

I asked for a refund and they did not give me one. I took photos abou the place just to have the proof of how bad it was, there was no way I could stand keep going there.

I am still very sad with it all, I spend thousand of dollars with it, considering all the money I spent with accomodations and flights tickets…

Hi VR, Thank you for providing your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience at your first rotation site as well as the additional rotation site you chose to switch to. Our goal is to provide trainees from around the world like yourself with the best possible clinical experience to help further their medical education and career.

In the U.S. healthcare system, it is common for medical students to work for limited periods of time with staff members such as NPs and PAs while remaining under the supervision of there primary preceptor, especially in areas where the number of patients per physician is higher than average. We work closely with all of our physicians to ensure they’re adhering to the best possible standards, and we are saddened to hear that you felt disappointed with these programs.

As far as our cancellation policies: Our refund and cancellation policy is listed publicly here: https://www.amopportunities.org/rotation-policy. As we contract with physicians and institutions for their clinical space, we maintain a cancellation policy that does not allow for a cash refund for voluntary cancellations. Similar to booking a flight, when you book a placement, you are booking a program's time, preparation and effort, and you are closing off a spot to dozens of applicants. Cancellations hurt our relationship with programs and often cause programs to leave the platform. We understand that this policy may seem frustrating - however it is in place to protect the dozens of other trainees that are often lined up to attend in the months after your program. It is also why our standard program policies require only a small portion of your total fees to reserve a program.

Again, we apologize that you were not satisfied with your experiences. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please reach out to us at success@amopportunities.org.

Good quality of service

I am an international medical graduate and I used their services more than three times. I matched to my top choice residency program. You can find really good quality US clinical experience from this company.

Each time I wanted to do a rotation, Coach Wahn provided me with clear instructions and answered my questions quickly, in a timely manner. I haven't had any problems with the rotations and the AMO opportunities.

They have lots of advantages compared to similar companies. The best feature they have, you can easily see available rotations and time frames on their website. They don't push you to talk over the phone and buy their rotation. Everything is pretty well explained on their website and you can rely on that information. My experience with other companies was a bit stressful because of this reason; when I reached out to other companies they wanted to talk over the phone to convince me or they added me to a WhatsApp group just because I wanted to see available rotations. So AMO is way more convenient than any other company.

The only drawback is some rotations are really expensive. If you have any chance, do your rotations in universities when you are a med student by using VSLO so the cost would be much lower. I was already a graduate when I decided to pursue a career in the US. But, I am happy that I chose AMO.
