I ordered a resole for two pairs of boots. The work was carried out professionally and communication with the customer, me, was superb.

However, I am based in France and when the boots arrived via DHLFrance, I was informed I had to pay customs and taxes to the tune of 61.80 Euros!

The Altberg UK accounting department were superb as they contacted me to let me know that DHL UK informed them that the package had been refused delivery. In the meantime I paid the DHL France charge.

Altberg UK challenged DHL UK about the customs charge and were informed that in their opinion there should have been no charge as all documentation was correct and provided to DHL UK and DHL France.

I challenged DHL France on this twice, the first story was that Return after Repair had not been clearly marked on the package or documentation, which was provably false. DHL France closed the case and refused further discussion. On the second challenge DHL France stated that they had no proof that the importer had passed the package to them! Again DHL France closed the case and refused further discussion.
Altberg UK accounts on hearing this refunded the customs charge directly to my account within one day as they felt it was unfair I had to pay this obviously erroneous customs charge.

Altberg UK are an excellent company.

DHL France are scammers and I suspect they take every opportunity to scam customers with made up customs and tax charges.

Had a pair of army surplus boots completely resoled with new laces. Customer service was excellent, the boots have been worn in so a snug fit and best of all it’s good for the planet.

Would highly recommend the resoling service to anyone with an older pair of Alt Bergs.

Bought a pair of boots from altberg. I expected these to last years. However they have lasted months. These boots are terrible. I have followed their guidelines and applied leder gris ect. However salt stains has absolutely ruined them. I have ran out of patience trying to get rid of them. These boots are ruined and quite frankly if this is the quality they should consider changing there prices. I have sent an email regarding this hopefully they can rectify the matter.

Great walking boots- they look splendid and are very comfortable.

I arrived at the factory shop with no appointment near lunch time when all staff were busy, despite that my details were quickly taken and added to their system and a full handover given to a colleague. My feet were measured wearing thick socks and for a woman my feet came out as off scale wide and a size up from my normal size. I had no need to worry as Josh came back with a pair of men’s boots in extra wide for me to start, explaining there were differences in leather stiffness and colour between the men and we women’s but otherwise similar, they were a good starting point but I felt slipped a little so we went to men’s wide and they were great. I was shown a different lacing style to ensure a correct fit on my smaller foot and I left very happy with my boots. While I was there customers came in for resoling 10 year old boots and I heard enthusiastic.discussion about selling second hand boots which warmed my heart. Altberg’s care about sustainability was evident.

Having worn my Altberg boots (military High Liability) for some time now and been extremely impressed with them, I decided to get a pair of walking shoes. I chose the Jakob Veldt shoes but if I ordered them on line there was going to be a good chance that they would arrive when I was away from home. Following the advice on the website I telephoned the company, late morning to ask if, should they be in stock, they could be shipped in order to be received before then. The telephone was answered very quickly by a very friendly lady. I explained the situation and after confirming that what I wanted was in stock I was told that they could be shipped the same day. I ordered and paid and received email confirmation of the order within minutes. The shipping details followed within the hour and the shoes were received 24hrs later.

I haven't worn the shoes in anger yet but they fit well and are comfortable after an hour wearing them around the house. The quality of manufacture matches the boots that I have and they are smart enough for casual wear as well as eminently suitable for those long, wet (I live in N Wales) dog walks in the hills.

I recently took a pair of Altberg motorcycle boots back to their shop in Richmond to see if they could be stretched. I can only say that I received absolute excellent service from their staff member (Paul I think). He was polite, helpful and arranged for the stretching to be done very quickly. He also posted the boots back, which saved me a journey. In addition, I was charged next to nothing for the service. Fantastic.

I've had my Altberg boots for around 3 years now and I used always buy Scarpa boots but decided to try something new. I love the fact they come in so many widths and sizes and they are fabulously comfortable. I've no idea what it's called but there is a device on the boot that stops the laces slipping back when you are doing them up and it works brilliantly.

I've just about finished the 680 miles of the South West Coast Path wearing them and they have been perfect. I sometimes even leave them on the evening even after a hard day as they are so comfy. Unlike the Scarpa boots I had, you can drive in these too.

Military Boot Not Recommended
The boot is too narrow causing pain in the bone on the outside of the foot. I wouldn't recommend the Military Boot. Initially the boot felt like a good fit, it wasn't until after wearing for a while that the boot started to hurt the foot, by which time no return or refund was available! The best which Altberg could offer was stretching. I'm anxious not to throw good money after bad so haven't taken them up on this offer.

Tried them twice hoping that the first attempt at wearing Peacekeepers and suffering a poor fit was an error, the second pair were just the same.....they currently lie on top of my locker for anybody to take ownership, never again, no arch support, instep to low......not for me.

Just bought a pair of Malham boots from Taunton Leisure and out of the box they were really comfy but with some miles and some of the leder-gris worked in I can say they are the most comfortable boots I've worn and the weight is comparable to some fabric boots.

Ordered the absorbent insoles direct from Alt-Berg and they came quickly and have improved the comfort even more.

Looking forward to using them on some proper hills in the Lakes in a few weeks.

I bought the Altberg Kisdon G fit(size 9) boots.
My first pair of proper hiking boots. I did a bit of research first on what to buy. Having wide feet made me go for these. I was just hoping they wasn't too wide but they fit me nicely. I can imagine if I had purchased a narrower boot I probably would have just worn them with my foot squashed in and hoping that they'd break in. So happy I went with these. I've read there's not many wide fit boots available and even the ones that offer wide fit are not actually that wide. So it seems these are the best option if you have wide feet and don't want your toes being squashed in. I went with my regular shoe size and they fit just right. They're not tight and they're not loose. The tread pattern gives good mud clearance so the mud clears quickly without sticking in the treads. Super nice boots.
Still waiting for delivery of some Leder-bok to spray on them. Ordered some Leder-gris clear too.
I believe the Leder-gris will make the nubuck go darker so I'll probably hold off using that for now as I like the lighter colour of the nubuck leather.

Just remember to order any products with your boots as mine didn't come with any and with it being Xmas the spray is taking ages to arrive.

What a load of hyped up rubbish , I bought the yorvik shoes ( £180) thinking there handmade in England, not true all altberg products now made in Italy , apart from looking ridiculous ( think student teacher , butterfly collector ) they were uncomfortable from day one , they are very very thin fitting so your little toes blister , but the main problem is that both soles started to come away after six months of ordinary footpath dog walking , now the right hand sole has a one inch gap and both shoes ship in water like a sieve, my work shoes ( free ) are 100 times better than this over hyped overpriced garbage , avoid at all costs

Been buying Altburg public order boots since 2015, when I stopped getting the issued....a change of job. They fit, they work, they last about 2 years of 70hours a week use. They keep me warm comfortable and dry. Exactly what it says on the box.
Theeir customer service skills are perfect by e mail, or phone. Theyre a easy reccommeendation and purchase for me and others. Occassionally let down by their delivery company, a couple of times in probably 6 orders. However Altburg staff resolved that directly.

I bought my main walking boots, a pair of Mallerstang, in 2009 (and several pairs of Altberg work boots since then). I loved that I could get the wide fitting that I needed and they have provided great service over the years.

In May this year the sole split and started coming away from the boot. As they were so old I took them into the factory to see if it was worth resolving them or replacing them. The response was that they were still in great condition (I do try and look after them correctly) and there was no point in replacing them, they just needed a basic (cheapest) resole. I therefore left them at the factory and a few weeks later they couriered them back to me with a nice new pair of soles.

I’m really happy with the quality of the boots and the subsequent service. If I ever do manage to wear this pair out I’ll certainly replace them with another pair of Altbergs.

PLEASE SACK THE GUY WHO WORKS IN THE SHOP. At great expense we drove to the Richmond store for a fitting and were looking forward to a professional service by this esteemed manufacturer. Sadly were greeted by a man clearly has aggression/anger management issues and was visibly angry that anyone was in the shop. He begrudgingly measured our feet and offered us boots that were far to small. When we pointed this out he became increasingly annoyed, storming off to get the next size up (again wrong) and slamming the box down on the bench next to us. This went on until we got sick of it and left.

Just had a pair of Danner Recon 8 boots, bought in the mid 90's resoled. Absolutely exceptional service in just a fortnight. The workmanship was out of this world and the boots now look like new with their new Vibram soles.

I love these boots and the company. I had purchased a pair of well known German boots, but struggled as my feet are very wide, I then went to Altberg. Gave the German boots to my son. It is interesting to see the difference between the two as he has used the german ones abount as much as I use mine - his were pretty much end of life after 4 years, My Altbergs are still going strong after 6 years. My wife is a convert as well. Best boots I have ever owned.
