I booked a Safari experience for my wife and myself at the zoo for my wife's birthday. We're both pensioners and printed the online booking to show all the details for getting into the zoo. The booking time for turning up was 11.30 am to 12.00 pm and we were told that we had to pay extra for the zoo admission which was not explained. We only wanted the safari experience as my wife could not walk far and we learnt that we had missed the time slot and we were on time at 11.45am! No refunds could be given. Poor customer service and not much help! I only have one star and that was for the Animals at the zoo. The human customer service is zero!!!

Was excited to go to Africa Alive as hadn't been for years, unfortunately came away very disappointed. Not as many animals as they used to have and what disturbed me the most was the stork's, they had clearly had one wing clipped, of the two I saw up close. They have 3 new young male lions, all thoroughly bored with no real stimulation. Lots of land but obviously not enough to make enclosures bigger!!

Animals look miserable and the staff too, we talked to some staff and they all said Africa Alive used to be run better when they had managers who cared, these managers just like being in meetings and meetings about what? Certainly not to get more animals probably to get another manager lol. I did feel sorry for the staff.

We came to Africa Alive the other week…

We came to Africa Alive the other week and was more than disappointed in their treatment for disabled people.

We regularly visit and have hired the mobility scooters on a handful of occasions. Normally they are charged at £10 which is understandable for the upkeep and electric needed to charge them. However, today it was £20. This is completely non refundable and something you pay on top of entry.

The typical mobility scooter is able to be dismantled into a car and built for use. However we have used this type of scooter at the zoo and the terrain (the path) is not suitable for the suspension. The ones available for hire are built with stronger springs and are lot more sturdy.

The sturdy mobility scooters are too bulky and heavy to simply put in a car for someone who ultimately needs an aid to just walk! The path at the zoo is only half concrete. 50% of the zoo is accessible on a stone like cobble. So the disabled people that rely on hire scooters are left in a bit of a pickle. Do they take their mobility scooters and only see half the zoo or do they pay over £40 just to get into a zoo that takes approximately an hour to get round?

I thought the equality act meant reasonable adjustments had to be made for those at a disadvantage. To me it seems like Africa Alive have taken these words and seen the chance for a profit off those who can't help not being able to walk. The website says "small fee for hire" There is nothing small about £20. It also says "wheelchairs are free" This is very untrue. We were asked for £7 to hire one! Disappointed ZSEA!

Visited Africa Alive on a very British Day

Visited Africa Alive on a very British rainy day and had an absolutely brilliant time! The animals didn’t seem to mind the weather one bit — in fact, some looked like they were enjoying it more than we were! Despite the drizzle, there was loads to see, and everything was clean, well-kept, and clearly loved by the staff. The enclosures are spacious, the animals look healthy and happy, and there’s a great mix of indoor and outdoor areas so the rain didn’t spoil a thing. Big thumbs-up to the team for keeping everything running smoothly with a smile — we’ll definitely be back (hopefully with a bit more sunshine next time)! 🌦️🦁🐘

Great day out

Great day out. Park was not too big & super clean.
Liked the fact they have included wild areas also.
Cafe staff were really friendly.
Great value for money.
Would highly recommend & will definitely be back.

Disabled Frendly

Lovely small animal park, visited on a sunny day most of the animals were about all though some hard to spot (very few empty cages all clearly marked), so spend a little time looking. Several new arrivals including 3 Red River Hog piglets, and a 3 day old Somalian Ass.
Book online the day before for you go for best price.
Very disabled frendly, carers go free, mobility scooters and wheelchairs available to hire. Plenty of disabled parking. My wife hired mobility scooter and was able to go round the intire park.
Food a little expensive but good quality and portions

Africa Dive

Africa Alive..... More like Africa DIVE!!!! Very Disappointed with our experience today.
Hardly any animals to see, shoddy small park, land train out of order but left right out there in full view of customers with bright orange tape around it teasing excited children. No offer of face paints for children (it's the summer holidays so would expect this to be available this time of the year!) When we came 12 years plus ago there was an indoor play area, facepaints, loads of animals and the land train. You'd think by 2025 they would have improved their services, not got worse. Was very disappointed and will stick to banham zoo where they have more animals, a working land train and face paints available. Don't waste your time.

Sounds like from other reviews that the only attraction worth doing is the safari jeep ride for £25 per person, for 30 minutes!

Not impressed

Visited today with grandchildren. Very disappointed. Have been previous years and enjoyed a lovely day out. This time the park looked tired. There were hardly any animals to see. The train was ‘out of order’ but left in full view by side of a path with a note on it. Funnily enough the jeep was working that charged £25pp for a 30 minute ride! Feel like I’ve been ripped off. Considering it is still peak holiday time (ie. Kids are still on school holidays) it wasn’t a good experience. The play area has been replaced with a sand pit. All in all not a good day out. Won’t be back anytime soon unless improvements are made!

A very happy day out.

Visited Africa Alice today with our 3 year old granddaughter and rest of the family. We were delighted with the whole experience. Wonderful animals in spacious grounds - giraffes, lions, rhinos zebras were favourites but there were so many. We were able to get close to the animals and see them strolling around, eating and interacting. The little train meant our granddaughter could see everything too. She also loved the bouncy cushion.
The whole atmosphere was great - staff lovely, train ride was free, and a pleasing absence of rules and warnings, just lots of useful info.
Animals seemed alert and interested - a very happy day out.

I have been here many times with grandchildren and thoroughly enjoy it. However, went today and was quite disappointed with the whole experience. There are only two Lions left, the Flamingoes have gone, the Ostriches have gone and the goats petting area has gone. There are several enclosure that have nothing in them in addition to all that most of the play equipment has gone to be replaced with a massive bouncy pillow that my little one was too small to go on. There were no Al,s and no train I also thought that lots of the park looked rundown and unkempt

Africa Alive, disappointing.

Firstly a map provided on entrance would be useful in helping to find your way around. The site itself is in a great setting, ideal for a summer walk or picnic but there was a distinct lack of animals to see. The café was okay, the portions were good and not too expensive but the menu was very limited, mainly chicken.
As far as an animal park goes this was a big disappointment, we didn’t see many animals at all so for us it was an expensive and disappointing day out.

Africa alive and knackered

The female lions and giraffes were great. A few animals not about but most where out.
Food/drink is expensive so bring your own.
Zoo shop, not much in there to be honest. More stock and choice at Thrigby. Sunny day. 🌞

Lovely Grounds but Where are the Animals?

We visited about five years ago, thoroughly enjoyed it, sadly it is not the same today. Whilst in a lovely setting, there are not many animals to see. Two lions, the others have died and cannot be replaced as the two left would attack them, fair enough. But over spacious grounds and enclosure very few animals of note, and what are there hard to see. I fully appreciate zoos cost a lot to run, but more animals are definitely needed.

Great day out

Visited during Easter and had a great day out. Loved the bat eared fox, and the fossa (never seen one before), walked round the marshland area with all the different lemurs and antelope. Had a Red River Hog experience which was not expensive and great fun. Definitely worth a visit.

Not Good SEN children bypassed

We are local and we would often go to Africa Alive.
My 8 year old son is autistic, he loves seeing the animals and being outside.
We would go after 2.00pm as the price was cheaper, it was £5.00 and carers would go for free.
For people like my son, it was quieter and more manageable, the park was still making money during quieter times with this scheme, it was a win, win for my son and the park. I would also buy food so the park would still do well financially
However, we went a couple of days ago and I was told in a very condescending way by staff that this has now stopped the price now is £17.00, more than double the price even after 2.00pm!!
I find this to be a real shame.
It's definitely all about making money you even have to pay for the jeep/train ride which you didn't have to do before.
The prices are too high, it's not value for money at all and I advise people to save their money as it's a rip off.
Kicking disabled/SEN children whilst they are down is a low blow. They already have such difficult lives to lead and to navigate a world that don't see them is hard for them and their families. You have lost my custom and respect. I will definitely not be returning.
I suspect I won't be the only one.
It's totally deflating.
I understand that prices have to rise but to make this park only for middle class, high wage earners and excluding the wider community, people with disabilities SEN children.......shame on you.
One good thing, I won't have to put up with your rude, condescending, judgemental, nasty staff anymore.

Booked the lazy lion today 15th July.
It was good value. It clearly stated on our booking confirmation admission was 2pm.
Was told at entrance it had been changed to 230. Was told we could go in earlier and pay the difference which isn't acceptable considering one of us required a wheelchair and had to stand outside for half an hour. no apology as it wasn't our fault. The staff were pleasant though..
Would not return in the future
