NFRC240906879937

On 5 July 2024 the Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed his win as historic, saying: “Change begins now” and further saying, he will lead a “government of service” on a “mission of national renewal” and promised to "rebuild Britain."

Six months later, change has not yet come to the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, Action Fraud, an entity with no apparent mission and no accountability.

On 11 September 2024 I contacted Action Fraud regarding a matter involving £47.5 Million Pounds Sterling and the HM Treasury, Revenue & Customs [Cryptocurrency Recovery Division] London UK.

The response was a message that my enquiry had been assigned NFRC240906879937.

A further response? Nil.

A declared outcome to my request for an investigation of unethical behaviour by HM Treasury? Nil

This is a pathetic outcome.

Do I contact the parliamentary wing of government, or do I speak with the UK tabloid press about this alleged gross injustice?

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you are not satisfied with the level of service you have received.

Action Fraud is the UK’s National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre hosted by the City of London Police, the national lead force for fraud. It takes crime and information reports on behalf of the police and gives advice and fraud prevention guidance. Action Fraud and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), also run by the City of London Police, do not have investigative powers. The reports taken by Action Fraud are sent to our colleagues in the NFIB which is responsible for collating and analysing intelligence on fraud, identifying any leads that would result in a successful criminal investigation and developing packages for distribution to a force for investigation.

Due to the volume of reports received by Action Fraud there is a high demand on our services which has impacted our response timescales. Whilst we endeavour to provide an update to a report within 28 days, it is not always possible to do so as the report may be still under review by the NFIB.

We will provide update on a report once it has been reviewed. The victim will receive notification of the outcome of this review as soon as it is practical to do so. If the report is sent to a police force for investigation, the victim will be told which force it has gone to. If a victim has registered on the new Action Fraud website they will be able to track the progress of their report online.

Thank you very much.

When any report of fraud is made the information is placed on the NFIB’s intelligence system. Due to the volume of frauds reported, they are assessed through a technical system initially which scores the viability of investigation for each. This assessment considers a number of factors including any linked reports and the suspect information provided, those that meet a required threshold will then be analysed by a crime reviewer.

There are certain preliminary enquiries that need to be conducted to ensure the report is passed to the correct police force to investigate and that they have enough information to consider an investigation. Action Fraud and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau do not investigate crime but do record and assess reports made by members of the public to determine if these are suitable to be sent to a particular police force to decide upon an investigation method.

Action fraud covering up Fraud since my…

Action fraud covering up Fraud since my last review about Action fraud they have still haven't bothered to look at my case despite making a written complaint to them complaint dated 22nd Nov 2024 reference number NFRC240706759101 ...they just don't care and can't be bothered to investigate any fraud. So don't bother reporting any fraud to them they will just tell you that Fraud is not a police matter or a criminal matter that's just a very poor excuse to do nothing because they just can't be bothered they are just a waste of time. so if you have been a victim of fraud or any crime you are wasting your time reporting it if Action fraud or the police won't even look into it for you just take the law into your own hands it's the only way to get justice it's up to you if you do it....because of Action fraud and the police not doing anything I have lost a large sum of money and will never get it back I haven't even got the money to sue them for covering up Fraud

I’m sorry to hear about your negative experience.

Whilst we cannot comment on individual reports, please be advised that the Action Fraud service helps many victims of crime dealing with in excess of 50,000 crime and information reports per month.

Fraud is the fastest-growing crime in the UK and as such there will be occasions where offenders cannot be identified or offenders based outside the UK, that criminal justice outcomes are not always achievable.

While not all reports have sufficient information or leads to prompt distribution to a police force, many thousands do. Fraudsters are being brought to justice as a result of Action Fraud and the work of the City of London Police and forces across the country.

If you have any questions regarding this please visit www.actionfraud.police.uk/FAQ where you will find answers to the most common questions.

It is the responsibility of forces to assess the information referred to them and decide whether or not to commence an investigation based on the viability of leads and other criteria that they take into account when assessing cases. Once a report is transferred from Action Fraud, any resulting enforcement action lies with the receiving Police Force who should contact the victim with an update. If a viable lead is not identified, the crime details are retained by the NFIB.

Well what a waste of time ActionFraud…

Well what a waste of time ActionFraud is. Don't listen, do nothing and endorse criminals. Brilliant.

The reason online fraud, impersonation and data harvesting happens is because no one cares about preventing or dealing with it.

We may as well all bend over and just take it. Less stress, once you've accepted it!!!!!

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you are not satisfied with the level of service you have received.

Action Fraud is not an investigative body and therefore cannot guarantee or prompt a police investigation or advise you on the contents of your report.

All reports are sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), part of the City of London Police. It is for the NFIB to decide what information is referred to Police Forces for investigation.

Every report made to Action Fraud provides information building a better picture of the scale of fraud that is happening, and to build up intelligence on fraud offences to aid police investigations and the development of counter-fraud initiatives. The more frauds reported, the more likely it is that related fraud reports will be matched and help identify lines of enquiry that can be pursued.

If a viable lead is not identified, the crime details are retained by the NFIB. Reports at the NFIB are assessed daily for viable leads and links to other criminality, the data you provided may link to another crime.

WASTE OF TIME REPORTING A SCAM TO ACTION FRAUD

I knew that they are not there to assist in recouping money lost to fraud. I went to them to draw attention to a scam sent to me in my Google newsfeed. They had obviously paid to be promoted so it's not a one-off scam to get a few hundred quid from me. Presumably they're intending to scam many hundreds of victims - so the public should be aware - hence my drawing Action Fraud to it's nature. However, I hadn't imagined that I would be met with a hostile & aggressive female who virtually accused me of some kind of scam. That was because I have zero details of who took my money from my credit card. She thought that sounded suspicious on my part - I thought that it confirmed it was the work of a clever scammer - my money ended up in Gibraltar - another clue that they were dodgy.
But not dodgy enough for the Action Fraud personnel who refused to take any notice of my report and sent me packing. Anybody would have thought that I'd asked her personally for a refund.
So one less scam for them to concern themselves with.
I RECEIVED ANOTHER MESSAGE FROM A GOOGLE SPONSORED WEBSITE OFFERING THE SAME SERVICE TODAY. EXACTLY THE SAME MO - THE CUSTOMER GIVES THEIR DETAILS TO AN ONLINE WEBSITE FORM - THE SCAMMERS DETAILS ARE NOT REVEALED.

Don't expect action from Action Fraud

I run a business and we are occasionally the victim of fraudulent buyers (often seemingly the same person pretending to be other people multiple times). These people are perfectly happy stealing from small family run businesses that cannot afford to lose money. We have reported many incidents to Action Fraud but it’s an entirely uselsss organisation. They will take the information you have, but nothing will be done. I am sure they are good at building statistics with fancy spreadsheets but hopeless at anything else; like most government formed quangos nowadays!

Action Fraud has no interest in the individual

I was scammed out of £3000 online and I reported it to action fraud. After several months, I got a response that Action Fraud would not be looking into my case. I submitted a complaint and tried to get a reason but I got nowhere. Action Fraud's only response was they did not have the resources to look into my case.

Unnecessary BEAUROCRACY

Called to report a phone call attempting to extort money. The man I spoke to was pleasant, I gave name, email, phone number and described the incident in full, at this point i has given all the salient information. I was told that I should complete an online form and that he would talk me through it. Ten minutes later I had still not completed the required security information. At the point where one of the security answers that i had given was too short, I told the staff member that I was unwilling to go any further, thanked him and terminated the call. THIS IS ABSOLUTE MADNESS, BEAUROCRACY GONE MAD. I had already given the necessary information. So, the incident is unreported......how many more are there?

Even with a clear point to pursue no action

Even with a clear point to pursue like a phone number the report is closed as "it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement organisation in the United Kingdom could pursue".

It's even more frustrating when a company is involved who could clearly provide this information on receiving a request from law enforcement, but not a member of the public.

So instead we see the phone number still appearing on a list of known fraud sources.

The NFIB’s systems assess reports of fraud and cyber crime from across the UK, helping to build a national picture of where fraud and internet crime is taking place and how. Experts review the data from these reports to decide whether there is enough information to send to a police force for investigation. However, it is not possible to investigate every report received.

The NFIB aim to respond to the vast majority of reports within 28 working days, but it can take longer so your patience is appreciated. After your report has been assessed you will be notified of the outcome. If your report is sent to a police force for investigation, you will be told which force it has gone to. Unfortunately, Action Fraud cannot guarantee or prompt a police investigation, but if you have any further information related to your report that you would like to add, please update the web reporting tool using your NFRC and password via the website (www.actionfraud.police.uk).

My review was removed, so I will post again. Action Fraud has not helped me in anyway and the scammer still has accounts on Instagram and Facebook. This means more victims. As we live in a country of free speech I seriously hope that this time around my review won't be deleted. The whole experience of being scammed has left a deep impact and I had nowhere to turn. It is upsetting to see that the scammer is allowed to just do what he wants to do which is destroying lives.
