SCAM impossible to cancel

As others have written in here, this service is impossible to cancel. I have tried to do that via e-mail but they want cancelling to be done via phone. And when I have called them they have promised to cancel the subscription and refund the last payment but they just never do that and my credit card keeps getting charged (this has now happened over a year)! I now understand why it is convenient to ask to do this only by calling them because then you do not have anything in writing. And I don't even have an account for them so that I could read the articles!!!! So there is no active account for me (therefore I have no product from them) but somehow they always justify charging my credit card!

Good Articles, Subscription is a Hassle

I subscribed to the WSJ because a lot of news out there is inflammatory and biased. WSJ had articles that seemed more even handed, and I appreciated that.

After $4/month for a year, I got my first warning email saying my monthly rate would be $39/month, starting in a few days. Turns out I'd been charged the new rate for the last 2 months without warning.

I called the WSJ, and they refused to give me a refund for increasing my monthly payment tenfold without proper warning. They gave me the usual run around, offering the absolute "lowest possible offer" which wasn't, since they kept "finding" a better one when I rejected the last one.

Can the integrity of their journalism be safe when their sales tactics are so low? I wont be signing up with them again.

Delivery is atrocious

Delivery is atrocious, when it's delivered at all. I'm supposed to get the paper by 7am. Today it was delivered at 8:30am EDT. The call service is no help and now, all of a sudden, more than 1 phone number is associated with my account, so I have to put in my 12-digit subscription number to even speak with someone. Frankly, the issue of non- or late-delivery has been "escalated" so many times, the automated system won't even let me report it that way. I have to speak with some inane person calling me "mum" who promises to do something about this. This has been going on in Miami Beach, Florida for months now. I see the Sarasota, FL reviewer and feel your pain.

Can’t Cancel…

Called to cancel, since that’s the only way you can do so. He tried to offer me other deals, etc. finally agreed to cancel my subscription. The next day I received an email saying I was resigned up for a subscription. They do have good articles, but not worth this hassle

ZERO STARS

I cancelled my digital subscription of $4.48 per month on their website and I have a screenshot from mid December 2023 showing "subscription expiring soon".
I did not renew and assumed that this terminated the subscription.
There was nothing on the page about autorenewal.
Customer service told me when I complained that its impossible to cancel a subscription without phoning.
How would I know this since I was also on the same day able to cancel a cheap Barrons subscription successfully online without phoning.
So I ask them how would I know I had to phone and why did they renew the subscription when their website stated my subscription was expiring soon.
He said I would have had to read their terms of service - in other words - I would have to delve into the fine print.
As of two days ago when I discovered these large erroneous billings of over $60 Canadian per month for 3 months I looked at my account and it states "subscription expired" and yet WSJ support says my account is still active.
There is no customer service. The support person did not listen to me and was unable to explain why "subscription expiring soon" and subscription expired" means the exact opposite in the world of WSJ
What a disgraceful outfit.
Expect the worst

Sneaky and underhanded renewal process

The Wall Street Journal is a great paper but their renewal process is super shady and underhanded. I can't believe a company like Dow Jones operates in such a way. I received an email notification that my annual "promotional rate" of $8 a month was set to expire in 3 weeks. I called to renegotiate my rate because it was set to go up to $43 a month! When I logged in to look at my account I saw that they already charged me the new exorbitant amount for the Jan and Feb. I called and they refused to refund me. Crazy! I told them I only got the email notification yesterday. They said there are no refunds. Awful business practices! I tried to take the phone survey after my unsatisfactory call with customer service and the stupid survey call got disconnected. UGH!

How are they in business?…

My wife purchased two vouchers totalling $260C for me as a gift.
Turns out they don't ship to Canada. I asked why do they sell the voucher here if they don"t ship here?
Customer support was terrible and now I am the proud owner of two vouchers and a very upset wife. Terrible company

This is a company with no scruples

This is a company with no scruples. Under no circumstances should you do business with their subscription service. I signed up at $8 rate monthly. No notice of expiration until 2 months after it ran out and they raised the rate to $39.

To cancel, you can only do so by phone and wait 25 minutes on hold.
I was advised that the information is posted on the subscriber information and terms. I checked and there is no relevant and specific info there.

I will never subscribe again.

WSJ Delivery Issues: SW Florida area

Have not had consistent on time WSJ delivery since 1/7/2023 ( 7 weeks !). Average weekly delivery ranges from 0 to 1 or 2 news papers. Problem is apparently large scale across southern Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
We have escalated this issue to Thom San Filippo, WSJ SVP Customer Service, but still no resolution.
Contact info: (609) 520-5824.
The voice of the customer is critically important; I would encourage you to let Thom/WSJ know first hand if you are having WSJ delivery/circulation issues.

This is a predatory company

This is a predatory company. Under no circumstances should you do business with their subscription service. I signed up at $4 rate monthly. Never received the paper that came with, and after one year they raised the rate 1000% to $40. This IS DISGUSTING.

I called customer service and they will not refund the predatory $40.

If it had been $6…I would have been a customer at least another year. By my math that is the same cost as stealing $40 from me in a price hike. It would also keep subscriber number up, important for advertising.

What a scam. I’ll never think of this paper with respect again.

I have three homes and have been a long time subscriber to the Wall Street Journal. While it is understandable that there were delivery issues during the pandemic, the journal is totally incapable of maintaining an appropriate circulation department. They should either make management changes or quit claiming that they are a paper that is capable of home delivery. This is a problem of a recurring nature The journal cannot seem to fix.

Difficulty cancelling trail offer

Took out a special offer, but decided to cancel my subscription as too much trouble signing in. They advised they would not accept cancellations via email, only by phone. Gave me a US number to call. Advised I could not make international calls from my phone. Didn't matter to them, I still had to phone them!

Impossible to cancel

Once you are in, they will trap you and make it extra difficult to cancel the subscription. I could not imagine a reputable brand like WSJ does business like this, really shady and it will impact their credibility in journalism

Terrible business practices

I had done a year at the discount $4 a month rate, then when I went to cancel Dec 1 2022 through my online account, accepted an extension at a not-so-discounted rate. But then I was charged full price for two months, while my online account said "Dec 2, processing error, call us." My fault for not jumping on that and assuming this was a upright company. I called in January, talked to a heavily accented rep who is trained to apologize but do nothing except offer an extension. "Nonrefundable" fees even if they make the mistake. What a horrible business practice. I wanted to cancel because I don't want to give any more money to this shady company, but I like the paper (even though I don't read it enough to justify $38.99 a month) so I accepted, but you bet I'll be keeping an eagle eye on this.

DARK PRACTICES

Signed up for a university assignment before I read all of the reviews here.

It's called DARK PRACTICES - where a company makes it nearly impossible/extremely difficult to cancel your subscription. I didn't realise you couldn't cancel online. I went to their online chatbot function and asked for assistance to "cancel subscription". The chatbot function conveniently didn't understand what I was talking about.
You then are directed to contact a huge list of numbers depending on where you are from. I contacted the number - it was a Dow Jones contact number. I selected Wall Street Journal and was then told that the customer service team only work Monday-Friday 9:30AM to 5:00PM on Hong Kong time - conveniently not the region I am from.

I ended up cancelling the bank card that the subscription was linked to. Frustrating that it had to come to this but I refuse for such a ridiculous gimmick of a "free trial" to extract any money out of me.

Hopefully the WSJ can research into dark practices and publish the article behind their paywall you cannot escape.

They will not cancel my subscription

They will not cancel my subscription. They keep sending me in loops from UK to US customer service centers saying some other team has to do it. On the call for over 30 min each time and nothing gets done. Have been trying to cancel my account for 8 months now.

Poor value and cannot cancel the subscription

As described by others here. The Wall Street Journal makes it very difficult to impossible to cancel subscriptions. This is a deliberate strategy. The information we gather when reading their articles influences our views on things and our decisions. Some might be important investment decisions. The company that provides this information displays an unethical culture shaped by greed for profit. What else will people in such a company environment due to increase profits? Therefore, I would rather not be influenced by their articles which leaves the offerings of the Wall Street Journal with no value at all. Add the cost of subscribing and the hassle to cancel and it ends up to be of negative value and a waste of time.
