DONT USE THIS PRODUCT
The options for beneficiaries are simply not realistic. I could not complete my will with the options Willful provided, so basically it was useless.
The site only gives you the option to leave something to the children of a beneficiary. So if you don't want something going to the child of a beneficiary, or if the beneficiary doesn't have a child, this product will not work for you. For instance you want to give $100 to your friend.... well if you friend predeceases you, the $100 has to go to their kids - if you want it to go to a different friend, you are out of luck.

You're absolutely right that, at the moment, our platform doesn't offer full flexibility when it comes to choosing alternate beneficiaries —such as assigning a backup person if your friend were to pass away. In those cases, the system defaults to passing the estate to the beneficiary’s children (if any), which understandably doesn’t work for every situation.

Being just recently widowed ..

We are having issues printing my wife’s will karen leduc. It only prints to page 9 then stops printing. Printer is loaded with paper……. Hopefully we will try to print her will today again

Most painless big decision we ever made
I was going through sites for Estate Lawyers, sites for Will kits and sites like Willful over the course of a year.
For me the cost-benefit ratio was perfect at Wilful. Within a short time, my wife and I both read through the requirements, and completed the Will questionnaire. The next day we visited friends to get their signatures as witnesses, and were able to register our wills online with Willful.

At the moment, we don’t send printed copies by mail. Once your documents are complete, they’re available for download so you can print and sign them at your convenience. This approach helps us keep the process simple and affordable.
That said, offering printed copies is something we’re actively thinking about for the future, and your feedback is really helpful as we consider ways to improve.

The Willful experience was great especially as my lawyer had disappeared with the original copy of my will. It was simple and easy to use.
I would have given 5 stars except that I found that way too many reminder emails were in my inbox. It takes time to put this all together - perhaps less often please.

We appreciate your feedback about wanting to add comments in different sections. That’s a great point, and we’ve shared it with our product team as we continue improving the experience.
To clarify, Willful walks you through a guided questionnaire and uses your answers, combined with templated clauses from our legal advisors, to generate your will. There aren’t currently sections where users can enter free-form text or extra notes — this was an intentional choice to help prevent users from accidentally invalidating or contradicting a legal clause.
That said, some people choose to write a letter of instruction to their executor — a separate document stored with the will, used to provide more context or details about their wishes. While it’s not legally binding, it’s often honoured and can be a helpful way to share additional guidance with loved ones.
If you ever need to include custom clauses or addendums that go beyond what Willful offers, it may be best to speak with a lawyer to ensure your wishes are properly reflected.

Step-by-step ease!
Really easy to go through the basics of preparing a will. The system is intuitive and takes you through, step by step. The only thing I'd change is having an option to add all the extra details (wishes, etc.) in the program itself and not have to do it in separate docs somewhere else.

This is something we’ve heard before, and while we understand how valuable that feature could be, we’re cautious about including open-ended sections within the legal documents. Sometimes, well-intentioned “wishes” can accidentally contradict other parts of the will or include instructions that aren’t legally enforceable.

Really expensive for what it is. You can on my do extremely basic stuff. If you have children and want to detail who will get them and how the money will workout with that there are no options other than giving everyone to one person

Willful is built for Canadians with simple estate planning needs, and we recognize that more complex family situations—especially when it comes to guardianship and managing money for children—can require more tailored guidance.
Just to clarify a few points:
In Canada, the appointment of a guardian in a will (the person who will care for your children) only lasts for 90 days. After that, the guardian must apply to the court for permanent custody.
When you name a minor as a beneficiary with Willful, their inheritance is automatically held in trust. Your chosen executor acts as the trustee and oversees how those funds are used.
While the will doesn’t specify exact amounts, it does outline that funds can be used by the guardian for the reasonable care of your child—things like school, food, clothing, and housing—until the child receives their full inheritance at the age you’ve set.
If you’d like to include more detailed instructions—for example, defining what “reasonable” means to you—you’d need to work with a lawyer. You could also choose to discuss those details directly with your executor so they understand your wishes clearly.

Unable to download the document due to bug
I was unable to complete the process due to a circular logic bug. Your system would not let me download the document because it has to be finalized. However if I click to finalize it tells me to download, print and sign.
I filled out all the forms, answered questions but never actually seen the document, cannot download it. Tried on mobile phone as well as computer browser, same problem.
