The city is great, but the audioguide bought through the visit-carcasonne website is just a rip off. It's a poor ai-translation and lasts for a few minutes with very general content. The audioguide that you can buy at the castle gates is a lot better value for money.

As clearly stated on our website, its purpose is to provide visitors with the essential historical context before or during their visit, rather than an in-depth commentary. If you were already familiar with the city’s history, it’s understandable that some of the content may have felt repetitive.
We also explain on our website that the audio guide available for purchase on-site for the Château and Ramparts is a complementary product focused specifically on the Château and Ramparts. By contrast, our introduction audio guide covers the Medieval City as a whole and provides a concise overview of its history to give visitors the broader context before exploring the site. These two audio guides are therefore designed to complement each other and provide a more complete experience, rather than being comparable products. If you were already familiar with the history of the Medieval City, it’s understandable that you may have found our introduction guide less useful.
