Lack of Follow-Up Put My Dog’s Health at Risk
I have never written a negative review before, as I generally believe most people are trying their best. Unfortunately, my experience with Village Vet Hampstead put my dog’s wellbeing at risk due to a lack of organization and poor clinical follow-through.
I attended this clinic despite seeing several negative reviews, hoping my experience would be different. Unfortunately, those reviews proved accurate.
I provided Village Vet with my dog’s full clinical history from the US. Despite this, they refused to prescribe the medication she needed to treat an active UTI until lab results returned, assuring me the results would take 24–28 hours. Three days passed with no communication. I went into the clinic in person and was told at reception that they would follow up with the lab and contact me. I still heard nothing.
I returned again the following day. At that point, I still had no answers about her cultures and no medication was provided—yet I was charged £150 regardless.
The lack of urgency, communication, and accountability was deeply concerning, particularly given that this involved an untreated infection. I am sharing this review to help other pet owners avoid a similar experience.
For comparison, Highgate Veterinary Clinic was an excellent alternative. The vet was compassionate, thorough, and spent approximately 45 minutes with me and my dog to ensure she fully understood her condition and treatment needs. They are independently run, which may account for the clear difference in care.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding care from Village Vet…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding care from Village Vet Highgate & Hampstead!
I can’t thank the wonderful team at Village Vet Highgate and Hampstead enough — especially Sheldon and Sasha. They were incredibly efficient, compassionate, and supportive when our puppy Margot had a potential toxic accidental intake. It was such a stressful situation, but they acted quickly and with such professionalism that we immediately felt Margot was in the best hands.
After a couple of nights in hospital, Margot thankfully cleared all her tests and is completely out of danger — and that’s thanks to their prompt and expert care. Beyond their clinical excellence, Sheldon and Sasha were also emotionally supportive throughout the ordeal, keeping us informed and reassured. It’s clear that they genuinely care about the animals they treat and the families behind them.
We’re so grateful for everything they did. Thank you, Sheldon, Sasha, and the entire Village Vet team, for taking such amazing care of Margot! 🐾💛
Fraudsters with no concern for the animals
Do not use this vet.
They do not care about the animals. Their only concern is how much they can charge you and they lost their moral compass years ago.
Last night I attended their out of hours service at Village Vet Hampstead. My dog had a broken dew claw. The vet's attitude was dismissive and uncaring to the point of rudeness. But this was not the biggest problem.
The diagnosis was that claw was not infected but they would have to sedate the dog to remove the broken piece that was hanging off and then she would possibly dress the wound and although there was no infection they would put the dog on a course of anti-biotics. The reason for the anti-biotics was because 'I don't know how the dog caused the claw to break'. The cost would be £1,200. I refused their offer of treatment and was then told I had to pay £275 for the 5 minute consultation.
I was stunned. How can you justify a course of anti-biotics where there is no infection. The broken claw was hanging by a 'thread' and was about to fall off on its own accord - which it did 2 hours later. Why put an animal under sedation for no reason? Of course the reason is money.
Rewind 4 years: This time the dog had an upset tummy. I booked an out of hours appointment at the same practice. The dog vomited on the way to the vet and showed immediate signs of improvement; however, I attended, was given a consultation and a probiotic paste. Cost £350. But that was not the end of it. The vet highly recommended that the dog be kept in their animal hospital at a cost of £1,000 for the night, excluding any treatment. I refused their offer. The dog was fine the next day.
This practice is well known for ripping off people. They are a disgrace to the veterinary profession. I am also disappointed that my own vet - Beaumont Sainsbury Vet Hospital - recommended I attend this practice, when they should be reporting them for mal-practice.
They messed up a blood test and then…
They messed up a blood test and then told us it was 'normal' when in fact there had been an error. With our dog some weeks later ending up at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at great expense, this blood test would have been vital in starting preventative care. Generally speaking we used three different practices and there were mistakes in all three. And when you send in a complaint, they just pass on to the VDS and if you read the trustpilot reviews for that you'll get the idea.
Night time emergency
I helped rush my neighbours little dog to this vets in the early hours of the morning, she was very unwell. When we eventually got let in, the nurse immediately rushed her to down to the vet, a little while later, the vet came upstairs, she asked the owners to go into a consulting room, she then proceeded to sit down at a computer and start typing without a mention of how the dog was! I know she obviously had to ask questions to build up a picture of what had happened, but at least tell them what they had found so far and how their dog was doing!! When I asked what they thought was wrong, she said a long word which included Gastro.......?? Then whilst still typing, no eye contact she said "she is very poorly and will probably die!!!!" What kind of way is this to tell loving owners this devastating prognosis!! I was absolutely disgusted with her attitude and lack of compassion, maybe she was annoyed at being woken up, but this is no way to speak to people. She then perked up when taking payment was mentioned. I know it's a business, you have to make money, but try being a bit kinder and empathetic to the people paying your wages.
BTW the lovely little dog didn't die, she's a fighter, all the other staff they have dealt with have been wonderful, very caring, keeping them updated when they say they will. Maybe they could give customer service training to their nighttime colleague
No compassion
I lost my little dog but the vets were awful. All they cared about was making sure I could afford to have him euthanised… £1500 I would have paid double to make sure he was pain free. This practice is an absolute disgrace. If you care about your pet go elsewhere. Why do vets become vets if they obviously don’t care. They made an awful experience much worse. I cannot even bear to walk past them.
Dangerous fraudsters
Village Vet is owned by Mars Inc—look them up. Mars is a pet food conglomerate notorious for unethical animal treatment, child slavery and widespread deforestation. They also manufacture dangerously low-quality pet foods such as Pedigree and Whiskas. That alone would give me pause, but my own experience with Village Vet’s West Hampstead branch leaves me no choice but to warn fellow pet owners.
I trusted this clinic for nearly eleven years, believing my cat was in capable hands. From 2015 to 2025, I spent thousands of pounds ensuring he received top-quality care. Initially, Christian looked after us; more recently, it was Rosa—no issues until now. However, they misdiagnosed my cat three times in succession. Each consultation was more distressing than the last, culminating in an appalling visit at the West Hampstead branch. Rather than admitting their errors, they doubled down, focusing on fees over genuine concern for my pet’s welfare.
Clearly, the clinic prioritises profit above all else. Their emphasis on upselling treatments and tests felt relentless. I tried to remain patient despite earlier mistakes, but it became impossible to ignore the way we were treated. If you care about your pet’s well-being, consider what it means to place them in the hands of a practice driven by corporate interests and profit margins.
Read the negative reviews for yourself and you’ll understand what I’m referring to. I won’t tell you not to register your pet here—legally, you can. But if you really value your cat or dog, if you want competent, respectful and compassionate veterinary care, stay well clear of this practice.
They will kill your pet, be careful
My sister took my beautiful chihuahua without my consent while I was away, she fell ill and the local village vet in Enfield didn't want to treat her. She was taken to this hell hole, village vet. dr mary fletcher sent me a message knowing for well I was abroad, only used WhatsApp. I had to call my sister to put me through to her. Over the phone, she tried to convince me to put my baby to sleep and I made it clear that I want to see her, be there for her, didn't want her to euthanize her and got on the plane. When I got back, I rushed to this vet, dying to be with my baby, then the monster comes out, tells me that my one and only baby has died. They neglected her, she had poo all over her, they didn't bother cleaning her, charged my sister thousands, approximately £3000 for such a small pet, for one night in their care. They ripped her off. My sister had no choice but to use a credit card to pay for the unfair cost. Dr fletcher quickly walked out of the room, avoiding eye contact, i knew she's done something to my baby. When I saw my beautiful baby, she was dead, I believe she put her to sleep without my consent. Telling lies about how much pain she was in. I took her to pdsa before leaving her with my sister and they confirmed all is okay. Apparently she died of kidney failure, that never came up in the scan done by pdsa 4 weeks before this. Please please protect your pet and don't believe anything they say, do not take your pet to them, don't trust them. I have made an official complaint, they never replied, taking it to royal veterinary centre now, I want every penny that was taken for my baby's treatment. Wish I could do more, sue them for how much pain they have caused me. I'm emotionally devastated, extremely disappointed and saddened, been in tears every day since 4th April. I know my baby was waiting for me, and they took her life. I could only hope GOD will do justice and punish them 🙏
Please do not take your pet there
Please do not take your pet here.
I didn’t believe the negative reviews at first, but sadly, they were all true. The staff are rude and incompetent.
My cat had eye surgery and later began suffering sudden seizure-like episodes. One evening, her condition became so severe that I called their Hampstead branch ( St Helen’s where I’m registered. I want to note that the St Helen’s team tries their best to help their patients. You can see and feel that they care). The receptionist told my that they couldn’t assist and advised me to take an Uber or black cab to Queen Mother’s Hospital for Small Animals which is over an hour away because she was under their care which was not true. Frida was discharged from the hospital.
When I called the hospital and explained the situation, they were shocked and angry that Village Vet Hampstead had refused to help. Village Vet was my cat’s primary vet, and they let me down.
Another negative experience with them. (my cat was due to see the neurologist team from a different hospital on the 8/5) I was advised by the neurologist that my cat should be taken to my emergency vet to be monitored because she experienced more episodes. Sadly, my cat passed away, before she could see the other specialist. When I went to collect her ashes yesterday, the experience was heartbreaking. I walked out with the bag, but thankfully I checked inside. My surname was misspelled, and more disturbingly, the casket was wrong. I had requested a white cat not a black one.
Naturally, I was devastated and angry. When I informed the receptionist, I was told they would investigate and call me back. Six hours later, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I had to follow up myself. I was told a staff member had made a mistake and they were “so sorry.” But honestly — if they can’t even get something this sensitive right, how can you trust them with your pet?
I’ve submitted two complaints already. They have a new practice manager, but she clearly needs to make serious improvements. Right now, the Hampstead Village Vet location is not a place I would recommend for any pet.
Once again — avoid this place if you want good, compassionate service. I want to highlight that St Helen's vet team has done a lot to help my cat. No idea why it shows as a negative review on their site when I wrote a negative review about the Hampstead one
Very very disappointing
Very disappointed…went to clip my dog’s nails today…the nurse couldn’t do it as she sensed my dog was getting scared (he has done it many times earlier with his groomer though) …so she left it at that but I was charged the full price for it…not sure why! For the 10 mins that the nurse spared for me ????
It’s unfortunate that’s they do not have much competition here and so pet owners have to go back to them 😠

I've witnessed an Irish vet during the night kicking dogs bandaged up. Cruelty upon belief but nothing is done. Violence to animals definitely goes on at this practice. I've lived in Belsize village for 10 years. I've seen graphic abuse to dogs during the early hours.
The worst vet you can imagine!!!
The worst vet ever!!!! All they want is your money, ZERO care for your dog!! If you are thinking to sign up with these guys, DON'T!! Look for a private vet which is actually ONE person, one vet and not a money hungry chain. I've been with them for 3 years now, every single time I go there, they are very arrogant and not happy to help you at all! They act like they are doing me a favor even tho I am paying them every month. The vets are very young and no experience. Every time I go there I leave pissed off and annoyed by them. All they want is MONEY MONEY MONEY in return they give you no care, no attention to the poor animal. They say they have an emergency service included in my package!!! Dont fall for this, this is all bullsh*t and just another way for them to charge you TRIPLE if god forbid something happens to your dog. I don't recommend this vet at all!!!
pure profiteering
The vets do not provide a good service, you get the feeling there is a lot of profiteering going on. They are not connected within their own network, chasing results instead of being contacted. Disappointed to say the least as it is very expensive and they try to sell you more and more rather than actually worrying about your pet
Couldn't have asked for better care…
Couldn't have asked for better care when my chihuahua was admitted with breathing difficulties. She ended up staying for 3 days and I was informed of her progress every step of the way. They even liaised with my pet insurance company which put my mind at ease. Thanks to Dr Helen, Jade, and all of the wonderful team.

There is no doubt in my mind that these people will do the best for your cat, dog or whatever animal you are custodian to.
Beautiful people.
I cannot thank the village veterinary practitioners enough.
Very, very big thank you.,
At this time mousey is doing well and many, many thanks to all who have helped little mousey.
Exceptionally special
Vet Hannah was very helpful
Vet Hannah was very helpful - thorough and efficient. And my dog loved her!
Unsatisfactory response to complaint
I wrote a bad review about the very rude and unpleasant vet at the Village Vet in Hampstead and they had the cheek to reply to me asking me to contact them to discuss it. My partner and I had already spent two or three weeks arguing back and forth with them by email about getting the vet to apologise, which they refused to do, and then when I post an unfavourable review they want to discuss it with me even further!

Magicians.
These guys have yet again brought our cat Holly back from the brink of death. She has advanced heart disease and when she was first diagnosed we were warned we would probably have her for just a few months. That was in 2016. They have set up such an incredible meds regime that she is still with us, with excellent quality of life. She chose Christmas Day to have a crisis and we thought it was the end. But no, an overnight stay with intensive treatment and she is home again. They are so skilled, so caring. Expensive yes, but that level of expertise does not come cheap. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Again. X
