Update from previous. Van compare got in contact and have looked into the issue with the amount of false calls. They will continue to monitor. Thanks to Charlie for looking into this.

First time user of Van Compare, unfortunately their “My Portal” app wasn’t functional to use resulting in having to take an another Policy out. Eventually got through to Customer Services who were able to cancel the Policy and refund some of the money paid. I received a call from the Head of Complaints, Charlie Byrne, who took the time to listen and address the issues, and also apologise. After discussion we were able to agree the refund figure to settle matters. I’m giving this review 5* based on the way my Complaint was handled and the satisfactory outcome.

We had some issues with our policy which we're difficult to resolve. the insurer was unable to accept any changes to the policy which we needed to make and there was no resolution offered at the time and in the end we cancelled the policy and went with another broker. In fairness they reached out to us afterwards and made every effort to make right the issues we outlined, but at this point we had sourced alternative insurance. can't fault the initial experience or customer relations after the matter was concluded.

Avoid, avoid, avoid! Daylight robbery.
Insured a van with them, all fine. Easy to spend my money. Van went wrong (not their fault) ended up returning the vehicle for a refund so I needed to cancel my policy! Not a problem.
Called up after 2 days of insuring to cancel my policy on 30th December, bit of waiting on the phone but it's between Christmas and new year so I wasn't that bothered. Deal with the nice man on the phone. Relieved an email 'sorry your leaving' ect ect ect. We will process you refund after calculation of time used (completely understand this part) and our £45 admin fee (bit annoyed as it was insured for 2 days and well within my statutory 14 day cooling off period) so Roughly £170 in 7-10 working days. OK I can live with that.
12 working days roll by, and no refund. I call up and get told "we've had a system error and there is a back log. You will get a refund but I can't tell you when" ok ill hold tight.
23rd January I get an email "sorry your leaving us" but hang on i cancel this nearly a month ago....
Your refund of £131 will be processed in 5 working days! That's not the ammount your first email said. So I try and get through to a human and not a chat bot. After a while I finally manage to speak on the phone with a human. Goes back and forth a bit lots of time on hold. To get told the original email (sent on the day I actually canceled) was sent i. Error and they forgot to charge me a setup fee!!!!!! Surely a set up fee is calculated into the original cost of insurance. Get told they will speak to accounts department and "see if they can honour the first email" "I'll call you back within the hour" no call back as promised and a refund of £131 was issued.
Can't be bothered to waste my time trying to argue with a computer anymore but I feel a crime reference number should have been supplied with my refund as I've been robbed for 2 days of insurance with bull**** fees conveniently added on.

Mr Sam Bisset was an absolute gem to deal with very professional & very helpful if you do call up in regards to a getting a quote he’s the man to deal with top quality service and great person to communicate and deal with helped with all my queries and questions and his communication was top notch I was very happy to be with van compare & will be returning soon :)

All tough everything was explained and the call handler was efficient I would have given 5 star if the prepared disclosures are notified a little slower to enable the purchaser to take in what is being said.
