Hidden charges and zero support in a crisis—Not a premium experience
I recently used Thomas Cook for a vacation, and while there were some positive aspects, the overall experience left a lot to be desired, especially regarding transparency and crisis support.
*The Positives:*
* *Itinerary & Value:* The overall coverage of the itinerary was good and provided decent value for money.
* *Hotel Quality:* The hotel selections were generally of a higher standard than other tour operators like Kesari. However, consistency is an issue—in one instance, our window opened up directly to a view of a local slum.
* *Flight Assistance:* They did help us book flights for the final leg of our journey and assisted with rescheduling when those were canceled.
*The Negatives (Why I cannot recommend them):*
* *Hidden Charges & Post-Payment Demands:* This company claims to be a premium, professional travel agency, but their pricing transparency is incredibly poor. Once we negotiated and paid the full tour fee, they repeatedly came back demanding additional charges. This happened twice to us with sudden "extra" VISA and insurance fees. Furthermore, a service tip of $5 per day, per person, was hidden away in a clause that the sales team conveniently chose not to disclose upfront, costing us roughly ₹11,000 extra in dollar terms.
* *Zero Support in Jeopardy:* The true test of a premium agency is how they handle emergencies, and Thomas Cook failed completely. When our transit flight was delayed and we missed our connecting flight, they provided absolutely no help. The Sales Manager completely washed his hands of the situation, telling me I had to fight it out with the airlines locally on my own.
*Final Verdict:*
Do not rely on Thomas Cook if you expect a seamless, worry-free premium service. They do not act in a decisive or supportive manner when travelers are in jeopardy. Between the hidden post-booking charges and the complete lack of accountability during transit issues, I would advise looking elsewhere.
SHAMEFUL and HEARTBREAKING experience…
SHAMEFUL and HEARTBREAKING experience with Thomas Cook and SOTC. What was supposed to be our dream Europe tour became one of the most emotionally painful experiences of our life.
We trusted these companies with our hard-earned money, our family emotions, and most importantly our religious beliefs. We spent nearly ₹10 lakhs for this international trip believing that reputed companies would at least respect customer trust and basic human values. Sadly, we realized that once payment is completed, customer emotions mean nothing to them.
First, for the London package, our visa unfortunately got rejected. We understood that visa approval is not always guaranteed, but what shocked us was how casually they handled our money afterward. Out of around ₹2,10,000 paid in advance, they refunded only about ₹40,000 and simply claimed the remaining ₹1,70,000 was already spent on bookings, flights, sightseeing, etc. No transparency, no proper explanation, no genuine support — just excuses while customers suffer huge financial loss.
But the most painful incident happened during our Europe tour near the Black Forest sightseeing area in Germany at an Indian restaurant arranged for Thomas Cook clients. We had repeatedly informed them before and during the tour that we are STRICT VEGETARIANS because of our religious beliefs. Thomas Cook management assured us multiple times that separate vegetarian burgers had been specially arranged only for vegetarian guests. Trusting their repeated confirmation, we ate the food served to us.
Later we discovered that the burgers had been mistakenly replaced with NON-VEGETARIAN burgers by the hotel staff. Imagine the shock, guilt, pain, and emotional breakdown of realizing that your religious beliefs were violated because of someone else’s negligence. For people who truly follow vegetarianism as part of faith and culture, this is not a “small mistake.” This stays in the heart forever.
What hurt even more was the disgusting casual attitude afterward. The restaurant owner simply said, “Sorry, it was staff mistake.” Thomas Cook management also responded like it was some normal issue saying, “Sorry sir, we will take care next time.” NEXT TIME? What about the emotional damage already caused? What about the trust broken forever?
After returning, we raised complaints with their customer care and service quality headquarters expecting serious accountability. Instead of understanding the gravity of the matter, they repeatedly tried to close the issue quietly by offering tiny compensation amounts — first ₹2,000 guest points, later ₹5,000 cash and ₹5,000 guest points.
Honestly, this felt humiliating and insulting. Is this the value they place on customer faith and emotions after taking nearly ₹10 lakhs for a trip? It felt like they were trying to put a cheap price on our religious sentiments and silence the matter quickly with token compensation.
The most painful realization from this entire experience is that these companies appear professional only until payment is made. When serious mistakes happen, customers are left helpless with casual apologies, excuses, and pressure to “settle and move on.”
We are sharing this publicly because no vegetarian family, no religious traveler, and no innocent customer should experience this kind of emotional trauma after trusting a reputed travel brand. Please think many times before trusting the promises of Thomas Cook and SOTC with your money, beliefs, and family emotions. Some mistakes cannot be corrected with a simple “sorry.”
NEVER BOOK YOUR TRIP FROM THOMAS COOK IF YOU ARE VEG.
WELL.... WHERE DO I EVEN START HOW WORST EXPERIENCE THIS WAS
I HAD TRAVEL FOR EUROPE FROM 9 APRIL TO 23 APRIL 2026 WITH MY WIFE. THERE WERE 35 PEOPLE IN OUR GROUP AND 80 % OF THEM WAS FED UP BY OUR GUIDE, HE WAS RUDE . SECONDLY WE WERE PROMISED INDIAN VEG BREAKFAST BUFFET BUT DIDNT GOT ANY, AND WHEN EVER THEY ARRANGED THAT IT WAS JUST BAD QUALITY AND POORLY COOKED AND THE REASON THEY GAVE IS THAT ITS MADE BY EUROPIAN CHEFS THAT WHY IT TASTES BAD. ON THE LAST DAY BEFORE ENTERING CRUISE , WE WERE HAVING BREAKFAST AND OUR GUIDE ASKED US HOW IT WAS, AND OUR USUAL REPLY WAS IT TATES BAD, THEN HE TOLD US TO GO TO INDIA AND EAT TASTY FOOD THERE.. THIS IS THE REPLY OF PROFESSIONAL GUIDE OF THOMAS COOK. BTW HIS NAME WAS MR ALDRIN DIAS. AND YES 12 MORE PEOPLE HAVE WROTE A REVIEW ABOUT HIM.
THE PLACES WE WENT TO WAS FOR ONLY 1 TO 1.5 HOURS TIME TO EXPLORE BY OWN.. AND FOR THAT WE HAD TO TRAVEL IN BUS FOR 8+ HOURS.
HOTELS WERE FAR FAR AWAY FROM CITY AND WE HAD TO GET BACK IN BUS AROUND 6-7 PM TO REACH HOTEL BY 8-8.30 PM .. OUR MOST PRECIOUS TIME WAS WASTED IN BUS TRAVEL ONLY. WHILE BOOKING OUR MANAGER TOLD US THAT WE WOULD GET BEST VEG FOOD IN OUR TRIP AND OUR TOUR GUIDE MADE US BELIEVE THAT IF WE COME TO EUROPE , WE SHOULD NOT BOTHER ASKING FOR GOOD VEG FOOD. OUR DISNEYLAND TRIP WAS PLANNED ON SATURDAY.. WORST DAY TO PLAN IT.. AND ON TOP OF THAT WE ONLY GOT 6 HOURS THERE TO EXPORE IT BY OWN.
HE TREATED EVERYONE LIKE SCHOOL KIDS AND HE WAS A PRINCIPLE.
NO PROPER GUIDANCE WERE GIVEN OF CITY WE TRAVELED TO. THEY TOOK US TO COLLESIUM IN ROME ONLY TO LET US KNOW THAT WE CANNOT GO INSIDE BECAUSE ITS A PHOTO STOP. AND NOW WE CAN'T EVEN PURCASE ITS TICKET BECAUSE IT NEED PRIOR RESERVATION. SO MUCH MIS GUIDED INFORMATION WERE GIVEN BY HIM AND THOMAS COOK BOTH.
HE MADE OUR TRIP WORSE EXPRIENCE EVER. NEVER, I SAY NEVER BOOK YOUR TRIP FROM THIS AGENCY. ALL THE CARE ABOUT IS HOW TO LOOT YOUR MONEY AND NOTHING ELSE. I WOULD HAVE RATED IT -5 STARS BUT ITS NOT EVEN AN OPTION .
THEY SKIPPED A LUNCH IN OUR ITENARY AND MADE US EAT IN A RESTAURENT WHICH HAD VERY BAD VEG PASTA AND PIZZA, SO WE OPENED OUR BACKPACK AND TOOK SOME INDIAN SNACKS OUT OF IT TO EAT, THEN THE STAFF TOLD US TO EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE BECAUSE ITS NOT APPROPRIATE TO EAT ANYTHING IN A RESTAURENT WHICH ISNT BOUGHT THERE. FINE BY RULES BUT ATLEAST IF THEY ARE NOT PROVING LUNCH THEN THEY SHOULD STOP SOMEWHERE WHERE WE COULD EAT. WE WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT IN BUS ALSO, SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO. BE HUNGRY TILL DINNER.
THEY ONLY DID THOSE THINGS WHICH BENEFITTED THEM NOT THE CUSTOMERS WHO TRUSTED THEM WITH THEIR DREAM TRIP.
OVERALL PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ANY TRIP FROM THOMAS COOK INDIA, THEY ARE THE WORST AND NO SUPPORT SYSTEM IS THERE FROM THEIR SIDE.
Cheated by Thomas Cook for refund
Firstly, I would like to give 0 rating... Unfortunately, tats not here to mention.
I had booked Europe travel for 2 people by paying 1.05 lac advance per person.. Visa got rejected and they are paying us 42 k as a refund and deducting 60% of the cost per person.
We asked for a justification and breakups, but they r not ready to provide.. Air India booked was free cancellation.. One way cancellation was supposed to be some nominal amt... Also, my rejection letter says tat it got rejected due to documentation... Which is purely a mistake of visa team of Thomas Cook... Covering letter was not shared..
Shows tat they just want to make money, not to keep their customers happy... Big frauds.... I suggest everyone not to go through Thomas Cook as a travel partner.
Worst travel guys
Sikkim and Darjeeling tour
I had booked an eight days and seven nights tour of Sikkim and Darjeeling from 14-02-2026 to 21-02-2026 through Thomas Cook India for myself, my wife, my son, and my daughter-in-law.
Mr. Ritik Mathur from Thomas Cook contacted me and provided details about the tour. I paid the advance amount and sent the ID proofs of all four of us. I had clearly informed him that my son and daughter-in-law are Canadian citizens.
Two days before the start of the tour, we came to know through Google that foreign nationals are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit to enter Sikkim.
When we asked Mr. Ritik Mathur about this, he said that no such permit was required. After verifying again from other sources, we found that no foreign national can enter Sikkim without an Inner Line Permit. When we contacted Mr. Mathur again, he admitted that he had forgotten to inform us about this requirement. Even then, he did not provide any satisfactory solution and kept diverting us by saying he would connect us with a specialist, while only one day was left before the journey.
My son and daughter-in-law then lodged a complaint via email with the Thomas Cook complaint desk. Ms. Gautami and Ms. Sweta spoke with us and initially said that no Inner Line Permit was required for foreign nationals, and that permits were needed only for Tsomgo Lake (for both Indian and foreign nationals) and Nathula Pass (only for Indian nationals). When my son and daughter-in-law informed them that an Inner Line Permit is mandatory for entry into Sikkim, they said they would confirm and revert.
After some time, Ms. Gautami and Ms. Sweta admitted that yes, foreign nationals do require an Inner Line Permit to enter Sikkim, and assured us that their staff at Bagdogra Airport would arrange the permit for us.
Ms. Gautami also assured us that we could contact her in case of any difficulty.
After this assurance, we felt relieved and proceeded with our journey.
However, at Bagdogra Airport, the Thomas Cook representative who received us had no knowledge about the Inner Line Permit. When we contacted the local tour manager of Thomas Cook, he assigned the responsibility to the car driver, who was also unaware of the process.
We went to the Sikkim Tourism office at Bagdogra Airport, but no one was present there. There was only a notice stating that the Inner Line Permit must be applied for online.
The Sikkim Tourism website was very complicated and was not functioning properly.
We were in great distress. No one was helping us. Neither the car driver nor the Thomas Cook staff had any information.
My son and daughter-in-law tried calling Ms. Gautami multiple times, but she did not answer. Later, she blocked our number—each time we called, the phone disconnected immediately. At one point, we even considered taking a flight back from Bagdogra Airport.
After prolonged confusion, the local tour manager, Mr. Abhinav Roy, advised us to proceed by car towards Gangtok and apply for the permit at the Sikkim check post en route.
Later, Ms. Sweta also called and gave the same suggestion.
It is extremely disappointing and regrettable that such an old and reputed travel agency employs such irresponsible staff.
Eventually, we left Bagdogra Airport for Gangtok. On the way, our car broke down, and we had to wait for one and a half hours before another vehicle was arranged.
At the Sikkim check post, after facing some difficulties, my son and daughter-in-law were finally granted the Inner Line Permit.
Thomas Cook, which we had always considered the best travel agency, proved to be a complete failure this time.
The behavior of their executives was extremely disappointing.
Instead of assisting their customers, leaving them stranded in the middle of their journey is beyond understanding.
The Ginger Hotel in Gangtok was satisfactory in every respect, but the hotels in Pelling and Darjeeling (Yashshree Hotel) were of very poor standard. Despite the extremely cold weather, there was no proper arrangement for hot water. There was lack of cleanliness, water leakage in the bathroom, and the food quality was also poor.
However, I would like to clearly mention that the service provided by the local tour manager, Mr. Abhinav Roy, was very good.
We will never forget this experience.
In the future, neither we nor our family and friends will ever book a tour package with Thomas Cook again, and we will also warn others about our experience.
Never trust Thomas Cook India
The absolute worst experience with Thomas Cook. They are a company filled with crooks from the top to the lowest section. Will never advise anyone to use Thomas Cook India.
I had the worst experience while…
I had the worst experience while booking in Thomas Cook for a customised Holiday. The entire team is filled with fraudulent people and empty promises. They dont dont even bother to plan according to the promised itinerary. They promise one thing and deliver totally a disastrous plan...Mr Owais, Sejal , Ruqaiya...all people exploiting travelers
Booking Thomas cook waste of money and invitation to mental stress
First of all I wish if there was a negative rating system as Thomas cook India booking team is not eligible for even 1 star.
Please don’t book your holidays with Thomas Cook unless you have extra money to waste and want to invite stress into your trip. I’m sharing this so others don’t go through what I did.
I booked a Kerala trip with Thomas Cook — two days in Munnar. From the very beginning, I clearly told them several times over emails and calls that I wanted a valley view room, not a normal or garden-facing one. Despite all that, they booked me a basic Garden facing room.
When I pointed it out, they admitted their mistake and apologized. But even after that, they again booked me a garden-view room, not the valley view that I paid for. I kept following up again and again, explaining that I was charged for a better room, but they simply ignored my concerns.
Thomas cook India Booking team will not go and check with hotel property on room specifications and will make false promises.
The most frustrating part is that the properties themselves are good, but Thomas Cook books the cheapest category rooms even after charging you for premium ones. And the prices are ridiculously high — if you book the same hotels directly, you’ll easily save around 40% of what Thomas Cook charges.
Thomas cook charged me 75000 which i feel the room categories and transportation they booked would have been easily around 45000 if you self book.
I went to Thomas cook so that its a travel agency which will sort out everything for me and I will have to go tension free. however they have turned my Travel(Safar) in real Suffer.
This entire experience caused me so much mental stress during what was supposed to be a peaceful holiday. I felt completely unheard and disappointed.
i have all evidences against them with mail and recordings.
If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, please avoid booking with Thomas Cook. They seriously need to improve their communication, transparency, and accountability
Thomas cook is good but there are few people in booking team which are messing it up.
Amazing trip
Our tour to the United States of America with Thomas Cook has been an absolutely wonderful and memorable experience. Everything was perfectly organized — from travel to stay to sightseeing. The food had so much variety and was well thought out for everyone’s comfort and taste.
A special mention to our amazing tour manager Kshitija , who managed everything with warmth, care, and perfect time management. She took care of us like family and made sure every moment was enjoyable and worry-free.
It was truly an amazing, well-planned trip — we’re returning with beautiful memories in our hearts. Thank you, Thomas Cook and kshitija! Hope to travel with you again soon.

Firstly, Thomas cook changed the hotel without informing us. And now the rooms in the hotel are so small and are in the basement which is very suffocating.
My parents of age above 60 are suffernibg.
We sent our parents on the trust of Thomas cook and see what we are getting . Worst services

Don’t send your parents with this company

We are here sitting in India worried about our parents. Pathetic services
poor experience with Thomas Cook office staff
I am a NRI senior citizen with a British passport and OCI. I was in India for a few months and booked a holiday to Sri Lanka. Late in the booking process, the agent said that entrance to certain attractions would cost me more because of British passport (instead of Indian passport). I agreed to pay just the difference. Following the trip, I found that I had been grossly overcharged for this and asked for refund based on actuals. This was rejected. They said that they had treated me as a US citizen and subject me to a surcharge (without my knowledge). Also I had a problem with one of the attractions that had been included on the Thomas Cook itinerary (free entry) - the driver / guide refused to pay for this. I paid for this and asked Thomas Cook to refund me when I returned. They refused and the person dealing with my case would not allow me to speak to or write to her supervisor. Also refused to give me a complaint ref ( I have incident ref). I wrote to the CEO in Mumbai to complain but have received no response. I feel cheated by Thomas Cook who pride themselves on being one of India's biggest travel agents.
Dirtiest travel orgnisers ever you can…
Dirtiest travel orgnisers ever you can find on this earth is Thomas cook franchisee in Jayanagar Bangalore supported by THOMASCOOK INDIA for all his ill doings and supports for unethical professionalism. Their only way of doing travel business is to cheat public with false promises which are documented and evidential.
Best service for Student Foreign Exchange
Had a great experience with Thomas Cook foreign exchange division @ Bangalore. I could complete my brothers (Student) Currency, Prepaid card & Tuition fee remittance in less than 20 mins with them. He got a Study buddy card with Free lounge Access.
Not eligible even for 1/2 Star rating
If the Review Rate was 1/2 that was also not suitable for this agency. I am not finding words to describe the pathetic service that they provide to the customers. No one will respond at the right time and we have beg them for the support even after paying the full amount. Some of the small tour operators does a better job and they care for the customers but Thomas Cook India is the worst ever tour operator that i have encountered so far in my life. Not worth of taking the Travel plans for the given money. Not sure whether they pay their employees salary as they dont work effectively. Also if someone wants to see Worst itinerary it is with Thomas cook. Not worth at all.
Worst Travel Agency in India. The moment you deposit the booking charges, prices keep on going up and customer service starts going down,
after initial deposit, pricing keeps on going up and customer service courtesy down.
Very disappointing service they have
Very disappointing service they have, once it’s paid they are less bothered to communicate about trip, poor customer satisfaction with poor management. Please never plan your trip with Thomas cook.
