An absolutely fantastic day spent at the Farmers Dog, the staff all work incredibly hard and nothing is too much trouble. We finished off our day with what I can only say was a truly delicious meal in the pub. No waiting fantastic service and very reasonably priced, we will definitely be returning well done to Jeremy and his wonderful team of staff.

Absolutely Terrible Food

**Lovely Atmosphere, but Absolutely Terrible Food**

I don't normally write reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt it needed to be addressed.
My friend and I ordered the vegetarian pie with blue cheese, and I can genuinely say it was one of the worst meals I can remember having.
The mashed potatoes tasted stale, and the pie itself was nothing more than a bland, tasteless, sloppy mess. There was absolutely no flavour, and certainly no sign of blue cheese, which is rather surprising considering blue cheese is known for its strong, distinctive taste.
My friend asked the waitress why the pie didn't taste of blue cheese, and her response was that it was only supposed to have "a hint of blue cheese." Honestly, what a ridiculous answer! If you're advertising a blue cheese pie, surely customers should actually be able to taste the blue cheese?

It was extremely disappointing, especially when you're paying restaurant prices and expecting a freshly prepared, flavoursome meal.

On a positive note, the drinks were lovely, and the atmosphere was really enjoyable. It's a shame the food was such a letdown, because the place itself has a lot going for it.

**I rarely leave negative reviews, but this meal was so poor that I couldn't simply ignore it. The kitchen really needs to take a serious look at the quality and flavour of the food being served.**

If you have a pushchair or disability…

If you have a pushchair or disability no point going here which is so disappointing no space for wheelchairs or pushchairs in the shop, literally you have no room to even look at anything in the shop as the accessibility for pushchair and wheelchair users is none existence got that fed up put my money away and walked out no thought at all for people with disabilities or mothers

Take note of food truck hours!

We did not have a reservation at the pub as we had planned our trip last minute and knew they booked up well in advance. But, we thought we would visit regardless and have a quick bite to eat outside. Arrived at. 4:30 and the trucks were all closed! Absolutely nothing to eat. Trudged back across the very busy road to the car park and left disappointed.

Exceptional

It’s easy to get to, parking was very well organised. I’d booked specifically for an event and had not considered that it was actually a bank holiday Monday so I have to admit I expected absolute bedlam and I was wrong. It was very, very busy but at no point did that cause an issue. Table was booked for 5:30, we arrived over an hour beforehand and had time to browse the tent, listen to the live band and enjoy the view. Once inside the bar staff were able to talk me through the best wine options for me, we were taken to our table and though all the tables were occupied it didn’t feel crowded. The food is bloody good! Not fancy, though there were options for those looking for that, but just incredibly good food that was well priced - I’d happily have paid more than we did. The service is beyond excellent, we were served by Robert and he knew his job. Hats off to whoever does the customer service training because they are nailing it! I asked what and how the black pork ribs happen and he knew enough that I could go home and make them myself. They clearly have staff tasting sessions and they know what they’re talking about and they live talking about it with their customers. Robert was also able to advise on the best dessert options were given that we didn’t really need to eat dessert. The sorbet is excellent. We were seated in an area that had a clear view into the kitchen each time anyone came out, kitchens are always the real tell tale in a place like this and nothing I saw made me not want to eat there. Highly recommend the potted trout, the black pork ribs and the pie if they’re on the menu when you go.

Skip going on a wet day if possible.

Arrived on a very wet afternoon and found the car park like a quagmire! Not only is your car filthy but so are your shoes by the time you get to the pub. Toilets are rough and burgers overpriced with very little change from £40 for two burgers and two portions of chips!

Shocking Accessibility

We knew The Farmer’s Dog would be full and wouldn’t be able to dine in the actual pub however we decided to go and visit The Puppy to grab some food and have a mooch around the tent and surroundings.

On a positive note, the parking was smooth and well organised, particularly as blue badge holders although for the first time ever we were asked to show the photo on the back of the badge so the parking attendant could verify the individual was actually in the car. I didn’t really mind this as it does help stop people abusing the system.

The big issue I have with this venue is the lack of accessibility and what, to me, seems to have been a half a*sed attempt to be able to name it as ‘accessible’ which it most certainly isn’t.

Starting with the awful wooden toilet facilities. Yes there’s a ramp however both accessible toilets are segregated into 1 in the ladies and 1 in the gents. Really not at all helpful if a partner or carer of the opposite sex needs to assist the disabled individual.
In addition the disabled toilets are so small it is not possible to get in and shut the door with a wheelchair so they are therefore only suitable for individuals able to physically walk into the toilet.

Moving on, there is a ramp into the tent at each end. The end by ‘the puppy food stalls is steep but suitable for a wheelchair however the opposite end is too steep our electric wheelchair & would be, quite frankly, dangerous for a manual.
These issues are incredibly disappointing considering they are recent constructions and it appears no thought or proper consideration has been given to access for those in need of wheelchairs. I often wish places like this commissioned an individual who lives in the wheelchair world to test and check access designs before they are built.

I was so enraged by the whole thing that I lost my rag and said out rather loudly that if they can’t give proper consideration to accessibility then they are absolutely Not getting any of our money so we promptly left and chose to eat at a lovely pub that was easily accessible.

Come on Jeremy, get your act together and always remember, disability is a club no one wants to be in but any one of us can become members in the blink of an eye.

Ps - we fully accept that old buildings are often very restricted on what is possible in terms of making them accessible and that is fine and understandable but your toilets and tent are modern. New additions so there is absolutely no excise

A Great Disappointment

A Great Disappointment

We have planned and booked a trip to England specifically to visit The Farmers Pub and Diddly Squat Farm. We are travelling as a group of five and made all our arrangements several months in advance. One of the highlights of our trip was to have lunch at The Farmers Pub on 3 October at 1:00 pm.

Unfortunately, we discovered that reservations only open this morning at 9:00 am local time. I spent almost three hours trying to secure a table, but unfortunately I was unable to make a reservation.

This is extremely disappointing, particularly as we are travelling from outside the UK and therefore need to plan our trip well in advance. The current reservation policy makes this extremely difficult for international visitors.

Could you please explain the reason for this rather unusual reservation policy? Surely there must be a better way to accommodate visitors who are travelling from abroad and need to make their travel arrangements months in advance.

It is a real shame, as visiting The Farmers Pub was one of the things we were particularly looking forward to. To be honest, this experience has also somewhat dampened our enthusiasm for watching Season 6 of Clarkson’s Farm.

Good experience and not over priced.

Despite being busy the large carpark was able to cope and parking easy. We had a table booked but arrived early so explored the shops and bought some nice stuff. Went to restaurant and waited 5 minutes to be seated. Food was great and better than I expected. Staff very friendly and well trained, and it was nice to see so many young people properly trained and knowing what they are doing. Price was inline with other pubs around the area, and we didn’t think it was overpriced for what you were getting, all local British grown produce. Well done.

Massively recommend!

We were very excited to visit the Farmers Dog for lunch and the whole experience was way beyond our expectations! Every member of the Farmers Dog team that we encountered was fantastic. They are all very friendly, smiley and professional. The waitress we had (Victoria) was amazing as was the young man who brought our wine. They were both incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. I can’t recommend the Farmers Dog highly enough!

We had burgers from the burger van

We had burgers from the burger van and the meat in them was pink. I took them back and the man at the burger van said that is the way we do it. His colleague asked me if I wanted another burger in place of the one I had and I said yes, he gave me the replacement burgers, but we could not eat them because they were still pink inside. Another woman who I spoke to said that she had seen other people taking their burgers back.

It was just so busy and literally for…

It was just so busy and literally for no real reason. Parked in the field opposite which is just land that would have probably been at some point nice farm land. Just initially couldn’t help but see the impact the popularity of the place has had environmentally. Queued for 15 minutes to get a burger and paid £16, I was given a buzzer and told to wait away from the main area. I stood there and noticed people that were in front of me and behind me get their food? My buzzer hadn’t gone off. I went up and said I’m number 18 and it hasn’t gone off so she said ‘oh yeah it’s hear’ I asked how long it’s been sitting there and why it didn’t go off and she just ignored me and carried on ! Literally zero tolerance with customers, clearly programmed to take no notice ! It was so obvious that it’s all about volume and money making. Anyway, the burger was standard to say the least and massively overpriced. Everywhere was tired and shabby, went into the shop which was literally a few rails with hoodies, farmer chequered shirts and just tat! All expensive crap and just unorganised mayhem.

The toilets are just poxy small shipping containers with massive queues and no way on earth are they adequate for the volume of people there, not sure how they get away with it.

So personally, I’m not a complainer but it’s just a huge waste of time and money. Clarkson is raking it in with very little organisation and there is the air of ‘not giving a shit’ about the whole thing. Nobody else would get away with what this place offers its just not set up right, facilities are poor and just something that’s gained traction because of the TV series when in reality it’s just a absolute shambles.

Don’t bother is my overall advice. I’d never go back there again. It’s just a huge money grabbing enterprise which eventually will die on its arse.

What a lovely place we have been many…

What a lovely place we have been many of times, but there was a lovely gentleman at the head of house, polite ,kind and curious with a welcoming smile. He handled everyone well with smiles and firm but fair. He's a credit to such a well run pub. We can't wait to book a Sunday dinner there when we are lucky enough to book. Well done all. Also the sirloin was delicious from the shop and Sausages to die for. Thank you to all the Farmers involved and all the staff.

A fantastic evening

We had booked a table for my husbands birthday and arrived early on a beautiful summers evening to enjoy sitting in the garden before dinner. We headed inside and was taken to our table with amazing views over the surrounding countryside. Our waitress Emily was just adorable and nothing was too much trouble for her. One daughter is a coeliac and they had great options for her. The food was delicious even more so since we k ew it was all locally sourced. All in all a lovely evening and we will definitely be back soon

A wonderful experience

It’s a beautiful pub in an absolutely stunning location, the staff was so friendly and welcoming, we were seated on the decking and it was a beautiful late summer evening and the views were spectacular. The food was incredible, it was more expensive than I thought but given the quality of it and that it was for a treat, I really couldn’t fault it.

Superb Meal!

We were lucky enough to receive gift vouchers for The Farmer's Dog pub for Christmas, and after looking forward to our visit, it certainly didn't disappoint!
We arrived at around 9:30am and found parking easy, using the field opposite the pub, which was ideal for our motorhome.
Our table was booked for 12:30pm, so we spent the morning exploring the Grand Tour Tent, The Farmer's Puppy and The Farmer's Dough before relaxing in the garden with a drink, soaking up the fantastic atmosphere.
For lunch, we were seated on the decking, where we enjoyed beautiful views across the Oxfordshire countryside. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and all the staff were friendly, professional and attentive.
The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavour.
Starters: Chicken & Bacon Terrine and Breaded Brie
Mains: Steak Pie and Hawkstone Black Glazed Meaty Pork Rib
Desserts: Rhubarb Crumble Cake and Eton Mess
Every plate was cleared, and we left with very full and very happy tummies!
A wonderful experience from start to finish. Great food, fantastic atmosphere and excellent service. We'll definitely be back!

Impossible to book! Unable to use voucher

I would actually give this zero stars if I could. This is the second month we have tried to book....finger poised at 9am. But the system simply shows no availability for the following month. And no telephone number! Really? I am actually trying to utilise a generous voucher gifted to us by our daughter. Looks like I will just have to trek the 70 odd miles each way just to purchase unwanted goods in their over priced (by all accounts) shop. Greedy and unprincipled!
