I came to use the services of Surgery Now as a last resort as I couldn't get looked after at home in Ireland. Following an intense 10 days at home in extreme pain and with no alternative other than to continue waiting indefinitely on a list to see an orthopedic consultant, I made the decision to contact them. Within 3 hours of my initial inline enquiry, I was contacted by Keith who explained how everything worked. Having had an uncle who had previously used this service gave me some peace of mind that it was indeed a viable option. Keith was very clear from the beginning as regards the non refundable expenses I would likely incur and what the Cross Border initiative would likely cover. I had an online consultation with Dr David in Alicante the next morning and he outlined the procedure he thought I needed and what availability he had to perform the surgery. I was offered a date in 10 days time, I was very lucky and the next day I made the only decision I felt I could make and I booked my flight to go. This was one of the biggest decisions I've ever had to make as I had to travel alone due to family circumstances, to an unfamiliar country where I don't speak the language to have surgery. I was extremely anxious but throughout the next few days both Keith and Alex, my contact in Spain did absolutely everything to put my mind at ease and get the required paperwork submitted in time. I left Ireland on June 7th, and I was collected in Alicante at the airport in the afternoon by Scott. As soon as I turned my phone on when I landed I had a message from him to let me know he was on the way. Over the next few days, Scott collected me from the hotel and took me to my pre op appointments in Alicante and to meet my consultant in Torrevieja...all the while by my side and being the soundest human chatting, telling me stories and giving me any information I needed. He took me in for my surgery on Tuesday afternoon even calling in to me afterwards around 10.30pm to make sure I was ok. I was due to fly home Thursday night and the team arranged a post op appointment and dressing change with Dr Hugo in Torrevieja again to put my mind at ease. Everything positive you can read in the other reviews I found to be 100% accurate. I would have no hesitation in recommending Surgery Now to anyone and have already provided their details to many people at home. I'm now in the recovery phase and scheduled to meet Dr David online via WhatsApp one month post surgery for review. I have also heard from Leanne who will submit my refund claim to the HSE, having this as part of the service is fantastic as I can just focus on getting better now and they will look after this element.
On a side note,Hotel AJ was fantastic,clean with everything you could need on the doorstep. I also had the added stress of my coeliac disease to navigate whilst away however the staff at the hotel and in surrounding businesses were fantastic and I had no issues. I managed to eat safely and the staff were knowledgeable about cross contamination and did everything they could to help me.

Trying to find the words to convey the care and compassion shown to me by the Surgery Now team in the last two weeks is difficult...they have been phenomenal. Everyone I met along the way has been so kind...a special mention again to Scott who went above and beyond and is an integral part of the success of the whole process..his good humour,care and compassion put me completely at ease which was incredibly important for a young woman travelling alone for medical reasons. Also, Dr David,Dr Hugo, the reception team and Sammy in Torrevieja were so kind..not to mention the other Surgery Now patients I had the pleasure of bumping into whilst sharing a lift on occasion... everyone looking out for each other. Keep up the great work guys the service you are providing is fantastic and I may see you in a few months with my Mom yet, on her own journey to recovery.

I had my gastric sleeve through surgery now Feb 2025 doc Ali Tardu was my surgeon And Bruce Grayson was my coordinator the one problem I have is I didn't do it sooner I got my life back and my husband and children have a happy healthy wife and mother if your on the fence let this be your sign, ❤️ my surgery was Feb 2025 but it won't let me go back so but Feb just gone

Was on a waiting list for knee surgery in Ireland for the past year and a half.

It was recommended that I look at the cross border initiative by my local Gp.

Reached out to Surgery Now.
Initial contact followed be a video call with the surgeon discussing the possibility of providing me with the surgery needed.
Assisted throughout the process by the team at Surgery Now.
Any and all questions no matter how trivial ware answered promptly.
Hotel reservations were made and my stay at Hotel AJ was very comfortable, room was clean and comfortable with a balcony to sit out in.
Hotel had its own restaurant and there were several other restaurants, supermarkets pharmacy and coffee shop's all within walking distance if you wanted.

Pick up and drop off times from airport to pre surgery appointments were all organised well in advance and if there were any changes you were well advised.

Scot who drove us to our appointments was very helpful and knowledgeable and able to put you at ease.

Hospital and staff was first class.

Yes you must pay up front and wait about 12 weeks before being reimbursed. The only cost outside of surgery that isn’t covered are flights and accommodation but that’s a small price to pay for a first class service.

Would definitely recommend Surgery Now to anyone in Ireland on a waiting list for surgery.

I was made aware of Surgery now by my local hospital in Co. Galway after being on the waiting list for 2.5 years in the public service with the HSE. I needed a fairly standard arthroscopy and the draining of a bakers Cist from years of intense sport.

I qualified for the Government cross border scheme and made contact with this clinic as recommended by the Hospital. I had a video call with the surgeon and the admin staff to go over everything that was required in terms of paperwork (Minimal) and getting a date booked in for surgery (once I booked my flight and paid a deposit). The staff at surgery now are very friendly and professional, and all questions answered in a very timely fashion, almost to the day thanks to Hally, Scott, Hugo and Leanne.

I booked my flights to Alicante on a Sunday, had a pre-op surgery consultation on a Monday morning, the surgery took place on the Tuesday, and I remained in Alicante for the full 7 days to give myself the best chance of recovery.

I only spent one night in the hospital, and the remaining days were spent recovering in the very comfy AJ hotel.

I was up and walking the day after the surgery; I needed crutches for only half a day after that. By the end of the week, I was able to attend a La Liga match in Madrid while walking with a slight limp.

Outstanding features of this trip;

Chauffeured everywhere from airport pick-ups to clinics and hospital drop-offs.

The professionalism of the staff

The hotel is very nice, warm and friendly

Spending a recovery in the sunshine with sport on the Tv’s in the local bars. (few cheap beers here and there)

The area you are in has everything you need for the week. Mercado Central has a supermarket, Farmacia, hairdressers, cafe etc.

Travelling with some other Irish folk was comforting also.

Items to know;

Flights (approx. 300 euros) and Accommodation (approx. 500 euros) are not included in the scheme.

Prescribed medicine to purchase while here budget about 150 euros

Spending money for the week was approximately 400 euros for a single traveler.

Setting up IBAN’s and account numbers for the transfer of funds to the clinic and the hospital via your bank.

The refund of the scheme takes about 3 months to process, so I am liable for about 6 payments of the loan I acquired for this surgery.

The clinic has promised to follow up calls to monitor my recovery and send all relevant documentation to both the HSE and my GP. Now the surgery has been completed.



Thanks a mil to the entire team at surgery now and hopefully my knee will be problem free herein. I fully believe I will get the support to fully rehabilitate from surgery now and the process of getting the refund back from the HSE will be fully supported by the Clinic also.

The attention they give you is excellent on initial contact.When the money us paid and flights booked it is very less so. I was flying out on the Sunday and emailed to ask what hotel I was staying in on the Monday before. Didn't get an answer till the Friday afternoon after several follow up emails. Pick up from the Airport and transportation was fine if a little late. Had the operation and was horribly bitten by mosquitos that night in the hospital room. I mean the nurses checked on me several times they could have closed the window and cleared the room of mosquitos. They did NOT. Suffered a surgical wound infection on my return to Ireland, 5 days in hospital and a further 23 days as an outpatient getting IV antibiotics. The source of the infection is unclear, could have happened there or on my return. Takes 4 months in my experience to get a refund. Overall an adequate service, except for hospital stay and the mosquitos attack. Good luck. Patrick Barrett.

Honestly don’t know we’re to start all the staff at surgery now are just amazing. They cannot do enough nothing is too much trouble, from first point of contact with aneta I plagued her with some silly questions fears anything I could think of morning noon and night but was never an issue always came back to me with reassurance and an answer . Then I got to speak to Alex who deals with paperwork side for your full refund HSE, every detail was simply put easy to get and all done before you left so you can relax. Arrived at the airport and we were met by Scott who took myself and my daughter under his wing for the week I wasn’t feeling well the second day with a migraine the lads helped me out with medication Scott brought me to and from the pharmacy,Scott is very punctual for everything always happy so pleasant made you feel like you where having a day out with your friend we had some great laughs. The hospital was just fantastic from the staff round the clock care the room oh my god was so comfortable the food you could never be hungry, my surgeon Dr Daniel was brilliant explained every detail came to see me every day make sure I was doing ok . Leanne got in touch with me just to keep me up to date with some other bits that I’d receive in few weeks that need to be give for the full HSE refund, two days before flying home I was feeling unwell still (just after my procedure all normal) I needed reassurance more so than anything the team got me an appointment in there trauma care clinic with dr Hugo absolute gentleman listened to my concerns never once felt I was silly asking questions, we had a great chat about Dublin City and his recent visit. All the staff were helpful and so kind. And as of now I’m told in Ireland I’ll 2.5 years to get pain injections and god knows how long to have the spinal fusion done that I already had to wait 2 years to see a doctor just to be told what was wrong if I ever need anything in the future this team will be my first point of calling , and i will be 100 percent be tell friends and family where to go .also to mention the hotel it was fabulous the staff where so kind and a lot to do and eat all in walking distance

I left the hospital the very next day and returned for a review a few days later. Six months post-surgery, I was back in the gym under my physiotherapist’s guidance. Today, 9 months later, I am 100% recovered—I can do 50 push-ups, lift weights again, and, dare I say, I look pretty good too!

Words cannot fully express my gratitude to Dr. Casado and his team at Ruber Hospital for their skill, care, and kindness. I am forever thankful to Roz and Audrey for never giving up on me and making sure I was put back together again.

I'm in Spain at the moment a week after hip replacement surgery. From the moment I phoned enquiring about surgery to getting the surgery done to getting refunded the team were excellent. They handled all the paperwork all I had to do was book my flights. Fantastic crew in Benidorm nothing was too much trouble no matter how small or big. Highly recommend this service.

I need to put this post up cause I think if u find a good company with amazing customer service then u should spread the word.
I've had years of knee pain, I kept getting sent for physio and other useless appointments. The pain got so bad that I couldn't walk and had to use crutches all the time. I eventually paid for my own MRI and it turns out the cartilage in my knee was a mess. I was referred by my gp here in Dublin for surgery on my knee in a local hospital. My brother then told me about the Cross Border Directive Scheme, basically u can go across the border to have a surgery done once u can show u have been referred here and the HSE cover the cost of the surgery abroad (no means test or anything). I found a company called SurgeryNow.ie that operate here, they make all the arrangements in the hospital across the border u want to go to (in my case it was Alicante, Spain). U do not pay this company, they get paid by the hospital abroad so their service is free to u. Surgery Now answered all my questions and concerns as it all seemed too good to be true and he really made me feel at ease. They let me choose when I would like my surgery, made all my arrangements, even booked my flight and hotel for me too. The hospital abroad contributed to the cost of my flights and accommodation. Surgerynow was absolutely amazing. When I arrived at the hospital in Alicante (this is done through a private hospital), I was assigned an assistant that brought me around the hospital to each of my appointments and she translated for me too. My surgery went off without a hitch and surgerynow was in constant contact to see how I was doing and if I needed anything. They also filled out all the forms needed for the HSE. I can't speak highly enough about this service. I had this all done and was home months and I still had not heard anything from the hospital here about my referral for surgery. I contacted Surgery Now again 2 weeks ago for my next surgery needed and I had my surgery done yesterday. This service is unbelievable, best decision I've ever made. If you know anyone that needs surgery for a hip, knee, cataract, etc let them know about Surgery Now. If u can please share this post too, these guys give a 5 star service and deserve to have the word spread.

UPDATE: Full knee replacement surgery done, now for the hard part....recovery and physio. Thank you so so much for all your help again, surgerynow, for arranging absolutely everything, even my flights and accommodation. I only rang two weeks ago with my xray and I've gotten the surgery done and dusted already. Again an absolutely amazing service!! Platinum service, from airport collection in their company car, to bringing me to each of my appointments, being with me every step of the way and checking on me post surgery too.
