Full marks to Tyler!
I had a leak under my hall floor (it was seeping through the floor boarding) and I understood that I required a company which could Track and Trace the leak. I was referred to Specialist Leak Detection, SLD, and they attended promptly within a couple of days as per the arrangement. I had initially spoken to Victoria over the telephone and she was most helpful. The plumber was Tyler, and he was excellent - very pleasant to deal with and he explained what he was doing at all times. He located the leak as best he could with the equipment and he then had to go under the floorboards and into the screed below to find the exact area of the leak. He was then able to repair the leak. He was very efficient and did minimal damage to the flooring which he then replaced, so that there is little evidence of the work that was done. He tidied it all up afterwards. I give Tyler full marks for the work.

Honest, Well Priced and High Quality Service
They sent someone out to us at the last minute hearing how worried we were about a leak, even though initially they thought they'd need to wait a few days. The person they sent (Tyler) was extremely professional, knowledgeable, reassuring and kind. We really appreciated his manner and expertise, and he went above and beyond to demonstrate everything to us to make sure we understood what he was doing/measuring and what it meant. We also found the service to be competitively and fairly priced. We hope not to need more leak detection in future but if we do we'd go back to SLD without hesitation.

Wasted money
Whilst the guys on site were nice enough, they had no success at all finding how the leak was coming in and yet I still had to pay nearly £500 for their service.

Very helpful and professional. They were able to pin point the leak to the exact spot and were able to fix the leak and repair the floor to a very high standard (you would never know there had been a leak!) Great communication and very happy to help with any queries asked. Would highly recommend.

Rip-off rouge trader - Avoid!
Rouge trader who demand credit card details before they attend the job. Charged £462 for 1 person to attend my property for 1.5hrs (not their claimed 3 hrs) to try and locate a central heating leak. He failed to achieve anything. He just walked around the house pointing an infra red camera and prodding places with a moisture reader. This included areas of the house which clearly did not have pipes running through it (such as the ceiling in the loft).
When I questioned the £462 taken from my card, I was advised they operate on a minimum 4 hour charge, which includes the expensive and timely deployment of tracer gas. However, they knew in advance tracer gas would not be used. I’d pre-advised I have a subfloor void under the house, which makes that detection technique ineffective.
I asked the owner if he thought it was fair pricing to generically charge £462, allocating 4hrs to a job, even though it couldn’t take anywhere near that long. For an ADDITIONAL fee of £462, and as a gesture of “goodwill”, he offered to return and use the tracer gas technique. This, despite their report stating tracer gas would be ineffective due to my subfloor void.
Stay well clear of this company and use one of their competitors who use exactly the same techniques claimed by SLD, but charge by the half hour, not a minimum 4 hrs. Indecently, per their own terms and condition, if SLD attend your property for 4hrs and 1 minute, they will charge 5hrs.

At the time of enquiry and booking, the information supplied to us indicated a standard central-heating leak investigation. Based on those details, the appointment was scheduled under our clearly stated minimum charge, which covers specialist engineer attendance, diagnostic equipment, and investigative time. These terms were confirmed prior to attendance.
Upon arrival, it became apparent that certain site conditions and expectations differed from the information provided at the booking stage. Unfortunately, this limited the effectiveness of some detection methods and resulted in an outcome that did not align with what you were expecting. Had these details been clarified beforehand, we would have been able to better advise on the most suitable approach or manage expectations prior to attendance.
Following the visit, when this discrepancy was discussed with you, our team experienced a telephone call that became abusive in nature. We always aim to deal with concerns professionally and respectfully and expect the same in return so that issues can be addressed constructively.
Our engineer carried out a non-invasive inspection using industry-standard diagnostic equipment, in line with the agreed scope of works. As with all investigative services, results cannot be guaranteed, which is reflected in our terms and conditions.
We regret that this visit did not meet your expectations and encourage customers to contact us prior to booking if there is any uncertainty around the scope of works, so the most appropriate service can be arranged from the outset.

Technician arrived on time and was knowledgeable and polite. He however didn’t manage to find the leak so I was left none the wiser as to where the problem was stemming from. He did offer to continue to search for the leak over the intial 4 hours but at an hourly rate which was costly, with no guarantee that the leak would be found.

Leak detection can be complex, and despite using industry-standard, non-invasive diagnostic methods, it is not always possible to conclusively locate a leak within the initial attendance.

Very professional team, the engineer was sent the next day to look at the issue. He managed to find the source of the leak quickly, he kept us informed about each step while he was doing the investigation. The paperwork was prepared within 24 hours with details explanation of the like and videos included. I can recommend this company.

The engineer was polite and friendly, and seemed very knowledgeable. Based on what I observed, he seemed to know what he was doing, and was thorough. He was happy to answer all my questions, and communicated well.
