Don't go near them!!

I was treated like a criminal..3 months after opening a fixed bond, received an email saying I lied on my application form , I was a holder of 2 passports .not true and that they were concerned that I was possibly trying to defraud American Tax Office and HMRC. I was speechless.abd seriously upset about this. .It was arrogant and rude..I contacted them informing them of their mistakes and lodged an official complaint with them. Only to receive another arrogant, offensive email , which I am sure was AI generated, essentially saying they can treat their customers anyway they want, they have the control..
Couldn't wait for my bond to mature..
4 months after account is closed and money returned. Thank god. I receive a letter asking for more details about who I am whether I have forign tax numbers!!Totally unbelievable, and as the tax year is finished Totally unnecessary... and inefficient....more harassment from a financial institution that I would NEVER touch with a barge pole..

Smartsave, we're extremely helpful when I was having trouble receiving emails from them.
The interest always seems to be higher than anywhere else.

Competitive rate of interest each year for fixed rate account. Would have given a 5 star rating but log in is very slow. It would be helpful, when some capital and interest is withdrawn at the end of the fixed rate account, to have it shown separately on the bank statement for tax purposes.

Yes, a functional method of investing for Tax efficient purposes but:
Keep an eye on their lower rates for existing customers which can be beaten elsewhere.
Also it's mildly irritating to be asked every time one logs in to the (slowish) system for Cookie permissions etc. Once should be enough.
Maybe back, we'll see.

This is my third year investing with Smartsave. They have always offered the best fixed rate that I could find. The online account is easy to access and if I needed to speak to them, it is really easy to pick up the phone and talk to a friendly member of their team.

Have only banked with them for a year and online but I would recommend this bank to any future investors.

Good rates, fast payments

We have been customers of SmartSave for a few years and found they offer good returns on our investments and are very easy to deal with. (Customer service staff are very helpful if you have any questions). Our investments have just matured and, after checking out other rates elsewhere, we decided to stay put with SmartSave as we are very happy with their service.

I was unable to renew my one-year fixed term deposit. After receiving email ‘approval’, software did not allow me to proceed after I was cut-off. I then contacted SmartSave online chat who tried to assist before renewal deadline, however operator was unable to assist (despite being aware of my approval), and their IT team had already gone ‘off duty’. As I was expected to miss the renewal deadline I had no other option but to have all funds transferred back to my original account on maturity date. I think SmartSave must lose a few customers because of similar system glitches.
I don’t think they’ll be able to offer a similar 4.4% rate with Chetwood…

Very pleased to have come across SmartSave. Simple, reassuring experience with a good interest rate. Clear communications. Nothing to worry about.

£3000 DEATH PENALTY. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH TERMINAL GALL BLADDER/ LIVER CANCER AND PROVIDED SMARTSAVE WITH DOCUMENTARY PROOF. MY ACCOUNT IS NOT DUE TO MATURE UNTIL JUNE2026. I ASKED SMARTSAVE IF I COULD CLOSE MY ACCOUNT EARLY IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES. THEY SAID YES BUT I WOULD NOT BE PAID THE £3000 INTEREST ALREADY ACCRUED SINCE LAST JUNE. I APPROACHED MY FIVE OTHER PROVIDERS WITH THE SAME REQUEST. ALL OF THEM WERE SYMPATHETIC AND ALL HAVE CLOSED MY ACCOUNTS EARLY WITHOUT WITHOLDING ANY ACCRUED INTEREST. IN OTHER WORDS INTEREST PAID RIGHT UP TO DATE WITH NO PENALTY IMPOSED FOR MY EARLY DEATH. I'M SHOCKED THAT SMARTSAVE WOULD INSIST ON KEEPING THE £3000 INTEREST ALREADY ACCRUED IN MY ACCOUNT UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. I THINK THEY SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE COMPETITION HERE AND MATCH THEIR MARKET RIVALS. WHAT A MEAN PENNY PINCHING UNCARING COMPANY. AVOID !!!!

NB. AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSIONS WITH SMARTSAVE WE HAVE RESOLVED THE PROBLEMS ASSOSCIATED WITH MY ACCOUNT. COMMON SENSE HAS PREVAILED.

Great company. Have had three whole year savings plans with them. So easy to keep track of everything. Decent interest rate. Was easy to start up. They get in touch by email at the end of every saving cycle and ask if I want to reinvest and allow me to choose how much. If I want to reinvest less than the whole amount I just tell them and the money goes straight into my normal bank account. Easy.
