I have really enjoyed my time at the Skills Max Academy in Birmingham. I completed the domestic energy assessor course there as well as the domestic retrofit course. The teacher Johnell was brilliant very informative and engaging.

Skills Max Academy is an amazing organisation. I finished my DEA course there with Jhonnell. All the staff there have been very helpful, especially Jhonnell, who goes above and beyond to help all his students. Can't recommend them enough:).

The course was amazing, thanks to Jhonell, a vibrant and patient tutor. He ensured everyone succeeded by pausing whenever something wasn’t clear and explaining it again. With students from diverse backgrounds, he never made anyone feel inadequate, making the learning experience supportive and inclusive.

Hi this is Abdullahi I was one of Jhonell students on the DEA course for the energy assessor qualification, he ie Jhonell is an exceptional teacher as he facilitates the classes in a very high level manner,

if I was to give an example he organises in a way were everyone can understand and if someone has a hard time in doing so he will revise what they might misunderstood or miss out on.

His also diligent in how his work is presented to the students which I found very helpful, in conclusion Jhonell is an enthusiastic teacher & coach, it has been a pleasure to have been a student of his.

I had the privilege of being taught by Jhonell Lana on the Level 3 DEA course, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. Jhonell’s teaching style is clear, engaging, and supportive, making the complex nature of Domestic Energy Assessments much easier to understand. He has a rare ability to balance professionalism with approachability, which creates a positive and motivating learning environment.

Throughout the course, he demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the subject matter, always taking the time to answer questions thoroughly and ensure that every learner was confident before moving on. His patience and encouragement helped me build not only my technical skills but also my confidence in applying them.

What truly stood out was Jhonell’s dedication. He actually genuinely cares about the success of his students and goes above and beyond to ensure we get the most out of the course. Thanks to his guidance, I feel more than prepared to carry this out into the field.

If I could give negative stars, I would. My experience at the Canning Town branch was extremely disappointing. The receptionist was unhelpful and quite rude. As a beginner, I was simply trying to understand which level I should start with, but instead of guiding me, she questioned me in a way that felt more like an interrogation.

Their advertisement is also misleading. It clearly states that beginners can start at level 3 if they pass the initial test, which is why I asked about it. Unfortunately, the receptionist didn’t seem to have any knowledge of this policy.

The only positive part of my visit was when I spoke to a teacher afterward—he explained things much more clearly. Honestly, they should consider having knowledgeable, patient staff at the reception, since that’s the first impression students get.

This we a very educational experience my tutor Jhonnel was very patient, considerate and consistent with explaining everything and the staff members definitely assisted in making a effort for me so I’d definitely recommend doing DEA and retrofitting to friends and family
