This platform became very popular in the second half of 2016, and between August 2016 and December 2017 I used it several times to meet local people in various countries, and I was very satisfied with both the platform and with the meetings I had. However, I realised that, over time, and especially in most recent years, the quality of the service worsened: most of the "local guides" hadn't use their profile for a long time and didn't reply to the messages, fake or ambiguous profile rose and the terms for using the service, including payment and subscriptions, became less clear. However, after several years, in January I decided to reactivate my profile and try using the service again to book a meeting with a local in Lisbon. I paid the subscription for one month, contacted a user who had several good reviews and agreed to meet in front of my hotel. Then, on the very same day, that person first gave him his coordinates on WA very near my hotel but then, after only a couple of minutes while I was looking for him on the street accompanied by a colleague of mine (who, however, would not have shared the tour), this person did not reply to my messages and calls, and much later wrote me that "he had an emergency and had to go". Curiously, "in the middle of the emergency" he had time to enter the app and cancel the tour. I realised that he may have seen my colleague and decided to disappear after that, and this made me realise that, for the first time, maybe I was getting myself in a risky or even dangerous situation. Also, as it happened to various other people, I realised that I was being charged every month, and not just for the month I wanted to use, only some months later. Fortunately, I managed to un subscribe without significant issues. I am very sorry to see how this platform, which had a very good start about 10 years ago, slowly worsened and lost credibility

I booked a tour guide for a trip in Seoul. After charging twice my credit card, I received a note from the guide, that she wont be available for the requested time. Nevertheless the company charged my credit card over 118 euro for NOT delivered services. I had to block my credit card to avoid further fraudulent charges. I have reported Show around as fraudulent to the EU commission and requested my bank to charge back my money.

They're giving themselves 5* on here, which is crazy. I have had two suspicious charges come out of my account and it leads to this site. I clicked on the website and it is full of escort profiles! What is this shadiness?? I looked at all emails and texts - NOTHING. So how can this "company" be charging my credit card?? Judging by the reviews below, this is a scammy business... Tried speaking to someone, but it is al an AI bot!! now reported to my credit card company and blocked from ever stealing any more money from me.

In many parts other world they're full of people working outside the legally licensed industry. I contacted 25 people on the platform, only one legal guide actually got back to me, someone who took their job professionally. They did a great job, but the platform should do more to make sure people are actually legal.

The app has good points however I see most of the guides are amateurs with no much local knowledge bar language and not being ripped off. Prices vary wildly per hour.

I subscribed for 3 months and sadly didn't book with anyone. I reached out to guides in the country of Scandinavia. Didn't have much of a response. Also, the company itself are shady. They continued to charge my credit card after the 3 months was up.

As a professional with a degree in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, I joined Showaround with the genuine intention of offering cultural tours and sharing my knowledge of ancient sites. Unfortunately, my experience as a local guide on this platform was very short-lived.

Most of the users I encountered were not interested in guided tours or learning about the city, but rather in seeking night-time companionship. Many of them would send their WhatsApp numbers right away, clearly expressing intentions that had nothing to do with tourism or culture. Some were even explicit about what they were looking for.

This platform, in my experience, is highly inappropriate and potentially dangerous for women who are simply trying to do their job as local guides. It creates a false image of cultural exchange, when in reality it often facilitates unwanted and disrespectful encounters.

I would strongly advise women professionals to be cautious before signing up, and I hope Showaround takes responsibility for reviewing how its platform is being used.

First, I think most of the tour guides are scammers or don't take it seriously. Most never respond or if they do respond weeks later.
I read a lot of these reviews and I must say I've been lucky. I've had some cool guides and even became friends with several of them. It's just picking the right person with your head not the other part. I usually use showaround in South America so make sure the guide truly speaks English. Trust me will have an awful time if they barely speak English.

Over a year ago, I subscribed to this app and used it for 2 months. I then unsubscribed.

Months go by with no charges, but then a year later, they began charging me the monthly subscription again without any notification, warning or action on my part.

This app doesn't appear in my Google Play subscriptions list. It also has no easy way of managing notifications on the app. There's literally no way to manage the subscription.

This app has made managing the subscription untransparent and incredibly difficult to track and manage. It's basically a deliberate attempt to avoid any accountability and to quietly charge customers without their knowledge or consent.

THIS IS A SCAM APP THAT CAN NOT BE TRUSTED.

BE CAREFUL, the paid subscription renews automatically (30 USD/month) and it's hidden in your account both the status, the renewal date, amount paid, when it's going to be paid next amount etc. Nothing appears. You won't even notice the fee on your credit card because they charge it with a different and generic name (Benefits) with no referral to ShowAround.com.
Also there is no link to unsubscribe, you will have to contact the customers service by email.
When i realized from my credit card account statement i was being charged every month since half year, and finally was able to contact them, no matter that it's evident i didn't use the service at all during those months, they simply claim that when you subscribe Showaround and therefore agree their terms and conditions you automatically accept the automatic renewal, so officially they are protected althought it's clearly a sneaky method that no honest company applies.

This web site totally sucks. I would avoid it at all costs. The support system is completely flawed and offers no resolution to customer complaints. It is inundated with SCAMMERS and guides that never reply to a booking request. This site is a real POS! DO NOT give them your money!!!

The guides rarely respond to the booking requests, and the astronomically expensive guides are tenacious even after declining a booking request. There appears to be little or no quality control nor automatic deletion of "guides" for inactivity or "no response". Although we were reluctant to sign-up and far less pay for a subscription, we went ahead and did it anyway. We used the service for about two weeks before paying for it because it appeared there were legitimate guides. We are finding out that SHOWAROUND is another sham/scam site.
Showaround (probably AI) removed pictures from our profile without any notice. We had pictures of us walking on the beach in swimwear and they continuously and arbitrarily remove them. No notice, no reason. I emailed them several times to get a clear understanding of what the ph@ck they were doing and they haven't responded. We paid the membership fee for the entire year and now have reconsidered using the site. I have asked for a full refund and cancellation of our account after less than a week. We will wait and see, but so far we are disappointed with the service.

This website is full of fake tour guides and bottom feeders, they leech on tourist lack of knowledge, and most of these scammers won't appreciate a free meal or tickets that you buy them, besides the website won't let you rate these tour guide scammers until they close the trip from their side just like freelance website for image editing, so even if the guide was a bad operator you can't rate til he or she close the deal and mostly do not.

No subscription menu item in site as described. No way to cancel. Didnt install an app, didnt buy through apple app store. No email notice on renewal

I contacted customer support about all the fake profiles that immediately want you to give them your Whatsapp number so they can scam you starting with your phone. Customer Service said they no longer police the accuracy of profiles and just serve as a platform, and cautioned me on giving out my personal information to anyone since they do not validate any profiles. Customer service was utterly useless and acknowledges all the scammer on their platform, but will do nothing about it.

the company is like a fake company. They use your info. to get you to try and be a host ONLY when you are just looking to coordinate a host in another country. This is a waste of time and money of course. The idea is fantastic but it is probably run by a teen who is just clipping coupons and the execution is TERRIBLE.

All I read here are bad reviews. I used the site once. Met an amazing lady in Mallorca. Everything was perfect and she drove me around and we visited towns and had a great day. Obviously there are some scammers here - but I write to say there are some honest locals who love to show you around

Low quality, untrustworthy company, deletes negative reviews on their website.

Many inactive, possibly fake, profiles on their website to make them seem like a larger company. It's all smoke and mirrors.

No way to get your money back after you realize it's all nonsense.

Most of so-called, would-be tour guide in their profiles, about 95 % people don't respond at all. They are all dead profiles. I had paid 1 year subscription before. I don't trust this site anymore. I occasionally contacted with them. Period! it's no hiring; I had met them with the local tour guide licence, also college graduated professional in those travel and art company, they were OK,quite a few became a good cyber friend as well. But only 2 or 3 peoples among more than 30 contacts I had kept in touch with, from Balkan, to Middle East, North Africa and South Asia are reliable, professional tour guides. Other ones are all pathetic amateurs, just nothing but the loitering players. Yet I had to give them enough tip what they want for pity, too. Besides,without this related profession or licence, they seemed to be very poor, lazy, don't like hard work of manual labor and also very ignorant, have no any job skills to survive, only learned a little bit how to speak English; therefore very rude, haughty and had no etiquette of meeting, and welcoming foreign tourists, so they hurt a lot of tourist feelings, too.(Maybe because of jealousy and envy!) Absolutely No training at all. Some are like mental patient teenager of bi-polar personality, quickly changing temper in their mood as well. Some people looked like an escort, or wanted a romantic date, and complained a lot about their country, and they wanted to move to other developed country for visa. These kind of local guides are all illegal to my point of view!!! Do total strangers from Travel App meet each other without knowing their credentials, anonymously guide to unknown corner, somewhere, or secluded mountains, lakes and rivers; either a totally unknown stranger posing as a tour guide, come to airport aggressively to pick you up. They could be an instant terrorist or amateur, secret hookers, and one member of linked, hidden group criminals, No?; Yah? How can you trust them? All the nation must prohibit this private tour guide without a proper license and supervision. It's like a private taxi driver, unregistered officially to city transportation board.
And also I found out recently this Showaround support team enlisted my negative review about a young Nepali crook girl of newly learned scammer by my request, but one day later, the Showaround support team removed the negative review. I suspect Support team removed by her request or looks like they may had mutual agreement to remove bcz of shame. Why? I see her quickly made new profile, saying she had to delete former account, haha! What an instant crook! What kind of negative review?( After 3 days of talking by WhatsApp and meeting, this abnormal-looking, hooked-nose girl coming to hotel "Suddenly pay me my double fee! You didn't pay me before, requested forked- tongued, double money, otherwise threatening, call the police! stuff") Yeah! These scammers threaten a lot verbally, or online in these days. I reported this scammer's verbal, cyber crime to related authority. ( It's all illegal working as any tour guide without proper license; in the Charter of Nepali Turgan.) This is all punishable in Nepal. Hey! young new, scam girl, please report your problem to your local police, OK, baby?

They take your profile and make you a * local* to attract people who are genuinely interested in having a tour.
They steal your data and that's all.
I've reported this scam to Google, the all mighty censorship man, he seems to censorship everything, except scams!

seems like its a money grab and a conspiracy. I get the impression they are mostly fake accounts. they want as many people as they can to try it out so they can get a month or two of payments. its a novel idea. if they offered a refund option if you could not find a legit profile that would make it a more honest site.
