Quoted price ex GST without telling us it was ex GST (illegal) when the rep came around and signed us up. He even looked at my bills and continued to sign us up knowing it was worse pricing than I already had.
Called customer support to cancel the next day and it turns out he gave me a fake name! CS said it was Bradley, and he told me it was Calvin! What a waste of time.

Here’s the thing about online reviews. It’s usually only the whingers who are motivated to show up here and air their grievances (some % of which is their own damn fault or misunderstanding). I booked Red for our new flat in Qld, everything worked on time, bills as expected, was easy to add my missus as a joint account holder, Qantas points showed up as promised.
Red energy are deceitful and act unconsciousably
I joined red energy back in May 2024 only because my previous retailer were going to change my meter to a smart meter. When I joined I asked them you have any plans to change my meter they said no. Fast forward to last Wednesday 11 September, red energy meter contractors replaced my old meter with a smart one without my consent, without my authority and the contractors trespassed on my property. I called them asked for the manager and told him what happened, he didn't have any concern at all. I told him about the health issues, cost issues, wasn't interested. I told him I want the smart meter deactivated and told me they could do that but will cost $183 and $300 to read the meter.
They call themselves 100% Australian owned......nonsense!!
I am reporting red energy to the energy ombudsman I have had it. Also, they lied to me about sending me a notice via post and email.
Thieves who don’t care about their customers
Red Energy charge like a wounded bull. I was told they were the cheapest by a foolish friend who fell for their scam in 2022. Was overcharged $376 and they refused to fully refund me. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. 3 emai oks, 3 phone calls, promised a response and call back, got nothing. STAY AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES!
Solar taroff
OK as a service provider and I went with Red because they say they are 95%hydro and have a great call centre, but they have just dropped my solar feed in tariff from 7 c to 5c. A drop of 28%. Not good enough I’m afraid.
I am shopping around now.
False and misleading information
I was advised I could potentially save $150 per quarter by switching to RedEnergy and they would handle all the backend administration. I flagged I had $1075 rebate credit with my current provider and wanted to ensure that would be brought across if i switched. This was confirmed. Three weeks later I was sent a bill of $426 with no credit applied. When I called their Customer Service I was told that they couldn't bring across the credit from EnergyAustralia and I would need to see if EnergyAustralia would allow it being credited to cash/cheque. They agree that the employee had provided misrepresented information. As compensation for the inconvenience and potentially losing $1075 credit i was offer $50 off my bill. I went back to my old provider and they were super helpful and tailored the solution to my particular case. They are slightly more expensive but offer premium service and experience. Don't switch. Save yourself the pain of dodgy sales tactics!

They have the audacity to charge me double for the gas bill from the last quarter.
I always get thru to customer service fast
I've been with Red for maybe 10 years and have always loved how quick I get through to customer service. (I leave that exact response each time on the post phone call survey) and I only ever need to call to get my solar credit rebate.
I cannot think of a single time I've had anything I need to complain about.
Reading some other poor reviews, I cant understand those at all, just has not been my experience I suppose.
I've got over 20k in Qantas frequent flyer points just from paying my bills with the plan I'm currently on.
Ive switched plans a couple times for a better deal, but its usually stated on your bill that you can save money with a different plan. If you pay attention and do your owe due diligence you'll get the best bang for your buck

Longtime Customer for over 10yrs and I find out Ive been getting ripped off for yrs. Because "Oh you're on the old plan". Yet no one bothered to look after a longtime customer. Absolute disgusting service
I love Red Energy
I love Red Energy. Lets be realistic the price differences between suppliers is minimal. We are talking about cents, not dollars. So customer service really defines these companies.
I was in a hard place and no way I could pay whole bill amounts every 3 months so Red put me on a payment plan where I could pay an affordable amount every 2 weeks based on past usage. If usage was less, they would ring and we would lower these payments. Only once had to raise elect payments.
WORST ONE EVER
I have dealt with lot of electricity companies over the years. Red energy has to be the WORST experience among all of them. They would never come to do a reading and would always send us estimated reading which would be 1000's above our actual reading. When we went ahead and attempted to cancel their services they were very unhelpful. The customer service attendant that I spoke to was rude and annoyed with me while I was trying to explain my issues with their estimated bill. They charged us extra for a "Special reading of the meter" because they sent us an estimated bill instead of coming to my house to read the meter. Mind you they had no issues coming to our house to read the meter when we initially joined the services. Unhelpful, unreliable and the worst company out there.
Fraudsters
My experience with Red Energy was disappointing. They erroneously billed us $650 more than our previous cycle, refused to investigate, and demanded retroactive payment for electricity not billed previously.

Scammers and terrible at it
Called on the 16/Feb/24 to join Red and start on the new bill date from 22/Feb/24, they decided to take over my origin bill from the 22/Nov/23, called Red and asked why I got a bill from them when the takeover date was ment to be the 22/Feb and that I was going back to my old provider, I was also told I'd save $90 a quaeter
on service fees, I was lucky if it was $30 a quarter,
In the end origin did the work that quarter they deserve the pay for it and not have red energy take over the bill 3 months prior to the date stated.
I should have known better, red energy were doing this when door knocking trying to poach business years ago, if they are that desperate for a dollar they have to try and swindle an extra 1/4 it just shows me how much they CAN'T be trusted when.
When you look and see a 2 star rating and a tone of bad reviews for a reason, its because they haven't been to good with the customer service, personally I'd avoid them like the plague.
Appalling behavior and lack of respect
I'm classed as a Life support person for energy and applied with Red Energy on Monday 5th, I provide all the correct details and told them i'm registering for life support, they did not contact me till the Friday 9th regarding the new account instead waiting several business days to advise me they can not offer me an account on Friday the day before the weekend and i move on the 12th, Absolutely disrespectful behavior, and very dishonest knowing minim notice is 2 business days for any new connections. I'm taking the matter to the AER and Energy Ombudsman as i am classed as being on Life support and the new address will not have power connected, they should advised me the very next business day from lodgement of a new service of not being able to offer me a service so i can make other arrangements in time, because of there dishonest behavior i can not use my Life support equipment at the new address which is putting my health and well-being at high risk.

Used to be okay but now deceptive, dishonest and incompetent
We were with Red for many years, they were good with pricing and regular with bills. However since May 23 when we installed off peak hw, we hadn't seen a bill. Long long long waits on the phone resulted in no action. Curiously we would enter our acc no and instantly got hung up on. Without entering our acc no we waited and waited. After a complaint finally got through in early October they apologized and said two bills would come by end of October, noting new off peak rate discount. This took a few hours to sort. They even gave us a $100 discount credit for our trouble which showed up in my online acc. By end of November, still no bill. We complained to ewon, the energy ombudsman. They stepped in and forced Red to send a meter-read bill, not an estimate. The bill finally arrived mid December -an estimate. Ouch. Nowhere was there an off peak rate given. And they took back our $100 credit! Filthy vindictive bas***ds.
Something has seriously gone wrong with Red Energy. Change of management? Cost-cutting? I read somewhere they were fined for anti competition last year. A search should bring it up.
We have moved on to another utility with a slightly higher rate but much better reviews and reliability. Left Red for dead. Don't just look at costs when comparing utilities; service and reliability is just as important.
With Red's constant lies and long phone waits, DO NOT EVER TRUST THESE SCUM BAGS.
